In retrospect, season 1 was AWFUL. The whole mole plot was not written in advance, nor was the ending. This means there were enormous, totally unbelievable plot holes in season 1 relating to the mole, because the writers wanted to make it so anyone could be the mole because they hadn't decided themselves. TERRIBLE.

However, I still enjoyed season 1 the most, because the format was new and innovative. If I had to watch a season again... probably season 2.

season 1 was very good, lots of twists, but i still have to go for season 2, it was just that much more intense, and it didn't have jack on a leash with his family being kidnapped. season 4 was also very good, just finished watching it. and i liked it because we didnt have annoying kim bauer running around and into trouble.

You know, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that kim was important for the show, and is why many people didn't like season 4. With kim in the show, you have a definite target for your anger and frustration in the show. With her gone, you don't have that outlet and start to get really picky about what happens in the show and begin to hate the show itself. I think this is clearly demonstrated by the head of CTU and her daughter early in this season. I bet a lot of people liked the early episodes, even though they were still equally ludicrous, because they had an outlet for their hate.

that logic may work for you, but never for me. those characters such as kim, chase, driscoll's daughter, were not intended to annoy viewers...(why the hell would they do that??) , but they're more of just fill ins, failed ones if i may add. i rather see some real intense action, twists, and suspense than seeing kim kicking, screaming, and pleading for her miserable life each time she gets kidnapped. her being kidnapped in season1 was relevant and appropriate, but keeping her passed season1 was a big mistake, luckily we only had to endure a few of her annoyance in season 2, and a lot of the material in season 2 made up for it. anyways, season 3 was just all screwed up for the first half of the season, it seemed more like a cop show than anything else, i rather see the story be at the verge of national security (which it fortunately turned into after a time)
