Um, how many people do you know can do 25 pullups in a row at both the start and end?

I've heard of this kind of training before...it's not your typical workout but quite effective. Kind of similar to CrossFit which is popular in Dallas. Every military guy/athlete I've met whose tried it once there swears it's helped improve every aspect of their fitness.

It's not very hard to get 'big'... I was big in college, I had nice sized biceps, big legs... but still a 'one pack'. It's not to say my abs weren't strong -- they were. Unfortunately, it's almost 80% diet that makes things like your abs 'show'. I never had that kind of dedication though now that I'm older, I'm naturually eating better and it's showing. I'll be in the gym hardcore next week (daylight savings is finally over!), so I'm going back to my 3 protein shakes a day routine with light meals between. I should be pretty ripped by summer if I keep it up right.

Not saying its easy or that I can do it, I just found it interesting that they seemed to use momentum a lot more than I would have expected. Usually form and control with eliminating the swinging of the weights is what people strive for, so to see these people swinging as much as they were shocked me a bit.

Because of this article I did decide to do more pull ups today, and tried those kettlebell press and cleans with dumbbells.

Read the article. They specifically wanted them NOT to get "big".

What does DST have to do with working out?

What does DST have to do with working out?

I have no idea.

I'm guessing he doesn't like going to the gym when it's so dark outside?

Oh, I was on our DST migration project at work for the last two months or so... lots of late hours to test systems, but now that it's actually over with, I can concentrate on getting to the gym.

No, they aren't. They are very lean and cut, but not big.

When I was rock climbing a lot in college, I could bang out 25+ pull-ups easy. I could do 15 or so on pinch grips... no bar to grab, just a ledge about 3/4" to hang on to.

Now I only do about 5 pullups but I have not lifted much at all for 3-4 years now.

Is this something you guys have to do every year? (Or twice a year, even?)

They changed DST this year. All the computers had to be updated and it has been a huge pain.

Ahhhh, gotcha. I didn't have to deal with the DST update process, but I heard a lot about it from the corporate IT guys.

I just saw an interview with Gerard Butler about the movie, and his arms are anything but small. They weren't striving for competitive bodybuilder size, but they weren't wiry strong like rock climbers.

Now I'm all pumped up to do this.

But where can I get a tractor tire and a bungy cord...thingy?

Nothing new to me...

HIT, sprints, mixed in with Gymnastics/ acrobactics training.

It's new to a lot of people. Most people don't train at a Gymnastics club or will ever see the range of different exercises that Gymnast/ CrossFitter/ Gymjones person does. It will be better for people.

Eat less do HIT, sprints, mixed Gymnastics, acrobactics = shredded. Nothing new there.

You don't need a tractor tire or bungy cord. You can do deadlifts with a barbell or DB. Bungy cord? Go do sprints. Nearly the same. Get a rock climbing harness, go out side to a park and put a tyre around a rope attach to your harness. Sprint 30-40m. Repeat.
