According to the GPU Results thread we had a while back, each HD4850 should get around 2000 PPD, but if you OC them, maybe up to 2400 PPD. Fire them up!

This 9800 GT I have 2 of, and they get over 4000 ppd, and are $104 after rebate.

Edit: one is doing 4500, and one 3500. It could be that the other slot is 4x or something.

Thanks for the stats Peter.................. :|

To THE FOLDERS:

It IS disturbing that TAS is so far ahead already but the truth is we are out-producing them on a per racer/day point production. Unless my abacus is badly flawed, :disgust: we are just badly out numbered.
It is early in the race yet so anything can happen, but I suggest we have Mark tie one hand behind his back and Sid have a few more beers  so that maybe he will take a nap. (a long nap)

Looks like we are in for a long month??????????..
and
Pande lab is in for a good month.

Hey guys, yeah, folders are not sleeping. We're just on hiatus. They're missing 8k PPD from me.

Yeah, my main server first needed to be reformatted, which I thought was ok because it's been going for a while and needed to be cleaned. But then my Microsoft Windows Server 2008 MAK reached its limit so I couldn't activate and then apparently the memory controller on it died so my main server is down and I had to off-load all of its virtual clients and services onto other servers, which were already loaded. This means I can't run F@H because of too much overhead on the hardware. I was going to re-do all of the servers with 64-bit Linux so I could do SMP, but now that I have no backup servers I have no down-time and I cannot run F@H. I am going to try to convince some friends to run it, or find some computers with downtime at work, but I doubt I will.

So, that was my explanation, so maybe I'll see what will happen.

Hang in there --- you may even assimilate or borgh some comps.
Just as soon as the server is up, commit to its job and then ... fold some more.

We are keeping the porch light on for you!

You are 100% correct as always my folding friend! Brown truck brought 260 core 216 yesterday. Not sure where to put it but I have a few options.

Turned 4 boxes on that were off due to power blink a few days ago.

Well, I am sure the 4 boxes, and the 260 will raise you well over this 65k PPD but I at least am trying....

And I only have room for 3 more video cards.

AS1: RAM speed has little or no affect on the SMP production rate. It's all
CPU speed. No reason to heat it up unless you need the bandwidth for gaming or something else.
Wierd! ,opposite to SETI & DPAD!, you would think it would matter *shrug*

The big L2 cache (2x4MB) of the Q6600s also is important for FAH SMP WUs peformance.

Good that I have a Q6600 then .

Hi guys and gals (and others too)!!

I have a problem.

Yesterday the SMP client (on my machine that has XP x64 installed) crapped out. There was a little box that said that the folding program had encountered a serious problem and had to be shut down. I rebooted and encountered a BSOD. I had to go and couldn't get back toit till this morning. I powered up and started the SMP client. Same problem. I deleted everything in the Work folder and started again. Same problem. I'm thinking that I should uninstall the client and install the latest SMP client for windows and retry.

I would love to hear from anyone who has encountered a similar problem.

I haven't had BSOD issues with the SMP. (there are some bad WUs that end early, but don't crash me)

I hate this to be my first advise, but with the BSOD in the picture it really sounds like a RAM or CPU overclocking issue. The SMP client pushes hardware very hard and sometimes otherwise 'stable' installations show their true colors when it's run.

My best suggestion would be drop to stock clocks, do a fresh install and see if it runs that way. (memtest86+ might be a good thing to try for one or two test sets just to check out that RAM). If it still won't run, there is probably an issue with hardware that is just surfacing in your system.

might want to double-check The SMP installation guide

Good Luck
(the race gremlins are at your house........... )

Assimilator1, I have a 2.53 OC to 2.85 and tried a couple of different ways, for the time to complete and the amount of points each WU was worth, it just wasn't worth the effort. Compared to the dual core, core2duo and quad cores, Nah,

SID, that is solid advise as in most cases with BSOD is instability.

rabrittain, If you think you are close with your OC, use Intel's burn test. you will be able to know within 10 minutes if it stable or not. If the numbers match, then you're golden. If not, then you have to determine what causing your instability. Just make sure you have the Ram set to 1:1 to get it out of the OC equation.....Keep us informed.....

Welcome theAnimal!!

Thanks for the advice Insidious and Drsignguy.

That machine is pretty much stock. I uninstalled the client. I even seached the registry for any leftovers and deleted them. I reinstalled and reconfigured the client, and it's running OK right now. If the problem comes back, I'll definitely run memtest and (will Intel's Burn Test work on an AMD cpu ?) prime95 and anything else I can find to narrow down this problem. The memory is very slightly OC'd - maybe I have a problem lurking in a corner somewhere.

The other machine is set up pretty much the same - I realize that different problems can show up on different machines, even when it's the same mobo and cpu.

We'll have to see what happens.

I am sure you can use Intel's burn test with AMD without a problem. In the past, I have noticed that sometimes you might think your system is stable, it could turn out that a notch up in voltage is all it takes to become absoultly sure. Intel's burn test solved those problems for me. It's pretty straight up as once you see the numbers, and all is the same, all is good. If numbers are different, you know right away and you can make adjustments. Ever since I've been using it, not 1 glitch........

Thanks for the Stats Peter! Appriciate your work!

They're sneaky

The MacBook (Core Duo, OSX) is getting about 1,100 PPD running the universal installer version of SMP.
I put it on a cooling rack that I usually use to put pans from the oven on to cool. It doesn't seem like it is getting too hot. (The little fan is spinning it's little heart out though)
