One of my machines has XP x64 and the other has XP 32 bit. Other than that, they are very similar - same mobo and cpu and ram. The 32 bit OS machine finished a 500000 step WU 4 hours ago, and the 64 bit OS machine is currently at 72% on a 250000 step WU. Is this right - or am I trying to compare apples and oranges. Both WU's were started at about the same time on Saturday. I thought the 64 bit OS would be faster. The machine is a dual boot machine - XP x64 and XP 32 bit. If the 32 bit OS folds faster, I need to forget about x64.
Maybe there is someone out there who has already worked this out and can respond to me.
Thanks
32 bit and x64 is approx the same. The Wu's are different and that is what is giving you a misunderstanding. Not to worry, if it folds, the points will come.

Afraid I don't know.
No one know what'sup with my install then? oh well I guess I'll just blow the WUs away & if that doesn't work I'll blow the installs away.
[update] Doh! it was my own fault!, I got too trigger happy blowing away old files & blew away some essential stuff!, oddly it could only fix itself once I deleted the WUs.
Anyway, folding now .
Btw, doesn't 1 smp client use all the cores on a quad?
It does, however, if you install affinity changer, it will adjust it automatically for you. In other words, if you had 2 SMP clients or 1 smp/gpu clients running, it will set the 2 clients accordingly.
Or, you can set the affinity yourself, but will have to set it again once each client is complete......would be better to just use affinity changer.
