Last Tuesday, I started with a scratchy throat.

Wednesday was a bit sorer, but with no other symptoms, I thought this was a 24 hour thing.

Thursday I couldn't swallow due to the pain and little aliens were being coughed up, disgusting. I thought, it'll clear up.

Friday, worst sore throat of my life and my ears feel like icepicks are being driven into them. Pain subsides, and I think this should be at the peak of sickness, feeling better here I come.

Saturday, I think of going to Urgent Care, but I get my appetite back and actually start to feel better.

An hour ago (3am Eastern), I woke up for the bathroom and my eyes were glued shut. Whatever infection I have moved from my throat to chest to ears to eyes. Urgent Care opens at 9am, I'll be first in line.

This sucks.

Edit: Watching season 1 of Person of Interest while I wait.

Why don't you just go straight to the ER? If you have healthcare it isn't bad.

Infections aren't good at all dude. I'd also recommend taking garlic/vitamin C if you have no other options to try to boost your immune system, but you NEED antibiotics.

Also don't forget to take probiotics (greek yogurt, Fage is a good brand) while you're on that.

I'm in Dearborn, what Urgent Care are you headed to? You are wise not to go to Oakwook/Beaumont, the wait would be as long and if your insurance is like mine you'd pay 3x as much for going to the ER instead of UC... Good luck.

Thx for the concern and advice Woosta. Surprisingly, now that I'm up, I don't feel half bad, but that comes and goes.

U39, I'm in S. Dearborn Heights, going to the First choice UC office on Michigan/Outer. Yeah, I try to avoid Croakwood.

Sounds a little like what I did to myself many years ago. I thought I just had a bad bug and figured it would get better. Couldn't swallow after a couple of days and proceeded to tough it out for a few more. After 7 or 8 days, I had eaten no more than half a bowl of chicken soup and drank less than a quart of liquids. My roommate was out of town when I finally decided to get to the ER. It was l could do to drive myself there and I really shouldn't have been behind the wheel of a car.

When I got to the ER I couldn't talk, so had to write everything down. They asked me if I was allergic to penicillin. I said I didn't think so. Then I overheard one of the nurses say to another "If he is, we'll know about it very soon." They gave me two gigantic horse-shots of penicillin, one in each cheek. Then they sent me to a nearby ear nose & throat guy who tried to drain my tonsils, but got nothing but a little blood.

By the next morning I was feeling 1000% better. They called me later that day and told me the lab tests came back indicating it was strep throat.

I'm allergic to Penecillin, but have taken other anti-biotics w/ good success. Less than 3 hours to go! Still watching POI season 1!

Scotch for sore throat.

i find ibuprofen to be the best. i take more than what's recommended on the box, but I know how high to go. alcohol/chloraseptic sprays are too short acting for me.

sore throat is just inflammation. ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory. i just control the inflammation until my immune system handles the virus

FYI: none of these do anything for anyone. The "biotics" that are included in these brands are, at best, completely neutral when it comes to your gut flora. It is brand marketing, nothing more.

If you actually want to improve your gut flora and restore that which has disappeared due to years of eating food out of a box or from some industrial freezer, then you need to eat more naturally fermented foods--like the many world varieties of fermented cabbage: saurkraut, kimchee, etc.

I always preferred beer for a sore throat. The dilution of alcohol(little alcohol over longer time) seemed to do a better job of numbing the throat.

so, like a 1ppm dilution of alcohol? The EtOH "memory" will cure you through molecular vibrations.

what about a Maker's and Ginger?

I don't see why that wouldn't work, and the ginger might help settle the stomach. Personally, I don't care for sweet alcoholic drinks. If I were drinking for enjoyment, I'd rather have Makers diluted a bit with straight water, and a glass of gingerale.

When I was a kid, I had a runny nose overnight. The way I slept, I didn't wake up (air passages in nose stayed clear) but that liquidy crap moved to my eyes by moving over my face. I woke up with eyes sealed by snot.
