your crusade

I repeat.............

"I would hope this thread accomplishes a few things.

First and formost, to warn potential less tech savy video card upgraders of this shady business practice.

Second, to have AMD and Nvidia fans rally together and show both Nvidia and AMD that this practice does not make its faithfulll customers happy.

Third, to try to stop this from happening again.

I agree. Regardless of whether you're company agnostic, or fly fanboy colors for AMD or Nvidia, I think we can all agree that this sucks, doesn't matter who does it. I tend to prefer AMD products recently, and I understand why they re-badge things for the OEM channel, but to do it in retail is really ethically questionable.

Way to burn consumer goodwill up AMD. Dumb dumb move.

I wouldn't say it's a dumb move. The 6770 was a money-maker and will stay a money-maker.
Besides, let's not forget they're priced the same.

If you look at the Radeon 6xx0 series in isolation, it is actually the most accurate naming scheme thus far in graphics card history.

Radeon 6670
Radeon 6750 +27%
Radeon 6770 +15%
Radeon 6790 +15%
Radeon 6850 +15%
Radeon 6870 +17%
Radeon 6950 +14%
Radeon 6970 +11%
Radeon 6990 +58%

Source: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_6670/22.html
liberty taken: pretended the GTS 450 was the 6750 - they are very similar.

Besides the 6670 being a bit slow and the 6990 being so powerful, you see a very logical ~15% upgrade for each card. And for the consumer it is simple: the higher the number the faster the card.

I feel bad for an idiot consumer who upgrades his 5770 to a 6770, but really is it that hard to use google before you drop over $100? For the consumers looking for a card in the new 6000 line, however, it has never made more sense then now.

They are?

There are 2 regular models of 6770's on newegg, Sapphire and Powercolor . Show me 2 5770 models from the same name brand that are priced equally.

I see the 6770 powercolor model as 14$ more shipped than the equally performing Powercolor 5770 and the Sapphire 6770 model as 10$ more shipped than the equally performing Powercolor 5770 and the 6770 come without a crossfire cable, a 10$ value.

If a half assed hdmi 1.4a spec on the 6770 model is worth 14$ and 20$ more, I guess its worth it.

quote from review.

"Update: AMD confirmed that the 6700 series only supports the HDMI 3D portions of the HDMI 1.4a spec. Apparently this is consistent with Northern Islands, whcih doesn't support 2K x 4K resolutions over HDMI either."

Yes, they are.

Do me a favor, calculate the average price of the 5770 on newegg. Then calculate the average price of the 6770 on newegg? Then tell me which is higher.

I've seen dozens of people on this forum asking if a 8800gt 512mb is slower then the 8800gt 1gb or a 2gb 4670 is how much faster then the 1gb model.

If people like this on our forum ask such questions, it makes you wonder how many more out of the millions of buyers are suckered. I would say thousands of Best Buy buyers to start.

Do me a favor and use the same AIB partners and calculate. Sapphire and Powercolor.
If more partners make 6770's are posted on newegg I'll use them.
I'm not gonna Average 15 5770's with 2 6770's just so you think your right.

How about we just use the cheapest vs the cheapest?
I guess that wouldn't work either. 5770's are cheaper.

I used the 2 cheapest 5770's with the 2 cheapest 6770's.
That sounds fair.

edit: what I do see is the rebates disappearing for the 5770's and the prices going up. Mabe they want to make the 6770 look better?

Well I don't have 40 people in my friends list and over 600 PM's (alot of thanks you's) for nothing.
Is that a personal opinion? and has nothing to do with a 6770.
If it is I would consider that a personal attack/derailment, and would have to report it.
I'm just giving you the benifit of the doubt before I hit the nuke button.:hmm:

So now we can only compare cards from the same AIBs? Your thread title says 6770s more expensive 5770s. How can that be when most 5770 are more expensive?

But lets play your game.

Powercolor: 2 cards, 3 if we include the OoS single slot card.

$109.99 and $219.99. So the 6770 is on the cheaper end of the scale, proving you wrong. Also, can you tell me why the 5770E5 is double the price of the regular 5770?

Sapphire: 3 cards

$114.99, $134.99 and $134.99, again putting the 6770 on the cheaper end, proving you wrong again. Also can you tell me why the vaporX and the FLEX are more expensive than the regular 5770?

Because they have different designs or features. So you can't compare the cheapest 5770 to the cheapest 6770 and say the 6770 is a ripoff as the cheapest 6770 has all the features the 5770 and HDMI 1.4a. Just like the vaporX costs more for the cooler and the E5 costs more for the 5 outputs. So if you wanna compare apples to apples then get a powercolor or sapphire 5770 that has HDMI 1.4a and see how much it cost.

Why did you buy a 460 HAWK and not the cheapest 460? Using your logic, I would say you were ripped off. Too bad no one made a thread warning you about a 460 with a different PCB and cooler costing more than the cheapest 460 from MSI that doesn't have that.

Skurge, Look over your choices, 5770 eyefinity 5 card, pre- overclocked cards.

Its easy bud, just use the 2 cheapest Sapphire and Powercolor 5770 cards vs the 2 cheapest powercolor/Sapphire 6770 cards.

I concieved on the added blueray support on the 6770 and asked the question is it worth 14$ and 20$ more? If it is then buy the 6770,otherwise just buy the cheaper proven 5770, because its the same card.

There must be a reason the 5770's don't have any rebates anymore and there prices are going up on Newegg.
What happend to all the great 90$/100$ deals on the 5770? There gone.

One can only hope that the 6770 gets a nice 25$ price drop back to where most of the 5770's WERE selling for 2 weeks ago.

I think Happy has changed the title like what.. 5 times? Happy, you can convey your message while being overtly sensationalistic. Everyone agrees that this re-badge is not welcome.. especially when there are hoards of uninformed customers. Looking at the claims you make..hostility towards you is totally justified.

You just referred to them as great deals, no wonder these deals are available for a limited time.

As do I, I'm just mostly answering questions and adding my opinion.

This statement is getting to personal, if you have a personal problem with my posting style please take it to PM.

BUT,

I'll be happy to argue the facts (price ,performance, power consumption ect. ect. ect.) with you in this thread..
