And guess what, these enthusiasts ain't gonna be buying a 580 and then say to themselves "why should I get the 580 when I can get the 570 oc'ed". No, they're gonna be thinking "i'm gonna get the 580 and overclock it myself and own the world." That's what men do.

awesome - fuel your GPU with testosterone and watercool it with Old Spice if you want to prove your XY status.

ugh why are you guys questioning the reason of existence of an oc'ed 570? Let's stop and think about this. People who go out to buy 570's and 580's are who, typically?? Are they your typical 13 year old boy asking mommy for money? Nope. Are they your gramps? Nope. Are they an enthusiast who's got money and willing to upgrade every 12-18 months? YEP! And guess what, these enthusiasts ain't gonna be buying a 580 and then say to themselves "why should I get the 580 when I can get the 570 oc'ed". I hope you do realize that an enthusiast can be anyone. I can be an enthusiast and still only afford a 6850 or 460GTX. Hell, I can be a poor enthusiast with a 450GTS. There is a $150 difference between 570 and 580. With that I can get a motherboard and quad core cpu. I would buy the 570 and OC.

Not that I will ever do this, but for curiosity sake, here goes.

Now that CF on Cayman have pretty much appeared to have been maximized, what about CF X?

Any data on 3 & 4 GPU scaling?

Logically that's what they have to go after next considering the dual GPU crossfire is so bad.

Saw a pic of xfire scaleing with 2x 6970's and it was all in the 185%-200% mark, from useing 2 cards (which means your using 85%-100% of the 2nd card).

If the pic is real, these will scale better than the 6850's/6870's... and those already scaled better than any of the 4xx cards did in SLI.

You cant really say that crossfire scaleing is bad compaired to SLI when it seems to have passed it with its last 68xx cards.

I'm assuming you mean bad as in fantastic. If true, we really should not use slang in a forum with international posters. Much confusion results.

Don't you find it interesting that AMD is slowly removing ALL of the objections by Nvidia fanboys.

Powertune allows for an increase in min fps and results in smoother gaming.

CF is now nearly perfect

OC headroom is appearing to rebut those who predicted the high 880 mhz clocks preventing much additional headroom.

Some previously vociferous posters have gone completely silent.

I'm assuming you misread, since he was talking about the scaling when crossfiring dual gpu cards (2x 5970)

Just had this thought.

Is CF now better than doubling the shaders on one GPU? I think it might be.

I'm very curious... Why are none of these AMD slides (fake or not) comparing the HD6970 with the GTX 580? They are all comparing to the GTX 570 or older GTX 480. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the correction. Somehow, I never interpreted the statement in that manner.

It makes me think these are real, as AMD was caught out by the appearance of 580GTX. A fake would probably use the current card as comparison.

In any case, now is probably the calm before the storm.

AT is so slow for some of us now, we will not see the review until late tomorrow, and NO ADVISORY from the site in spite of numerous reports.

I am going to guess it is because the 6970 and GTX 580 are very close performance wise with the GTX 580 being faster in most games, but the 6970 beating it in the usual strong performers for AMD cards. They are using the 570 because when comparing those two - the 6970 will always win - thus it looks like a super awesome card.

We will find out soon enough how well it compares to the 580.

Gibbo at OCUK:

Hi there

Some OC's from my testing:-

HIS 6950 stable at 930Mhz Core and 5950MHz Memory.

HIS 6970 stable at 980MHz Core and 6200MHz Memory.

I think there is more to go with voltage tweaking etc.
Since their running at pretty high speeds I guess its a okay stable OC at stock voltages.

5500 (1375mhz) memory --> 6200 (1550mhz) is a ~13% increase.
Should put it around 198.4 GB/s memory bandwidth when OCed stock voltage.

880Mhz core -> 980Mhz core is a ~11.5% increase.

How long has 5870 been out? Jumping from just under a 480 to just over a 480 is a "super-awesome" new gen?

Yikes.

That's pretty good considering it's stock voltage. I think only good 5870's went to ~950MHz+ at stock voltage, and then could do 1.1GHz+ with volts (stock cooler, too). Heck, my 5850 will do ~925MHz at stock voltage but can do close to 1.1GHz with voltage. Those results don't seem that far off/worse than the 5xxx series, which were fantastic overclockers. This is looking promising - the 6970 might still be my single GPU monster card .
