You just got owned so hard, its funny to see you limp back and give a pathetic reply that ignored his post. Typical IHV, typical.
Actually, he didn't get owned, not even softly. magomago went on and on about how past translators got it wrong and that "houri" simply means purity, undefiled, etc. Ok. Pure. Undefiled. ...that still makes them virgins whether speaking of a male or female.
On to the next consideration - Whether a Muslim male would be provided male virgins in heaven. What would be the point? Doesn't Islam explicitly prohibit homosexuality?
Sorry but while magomago's plea may be wordy, it really doesn't make sense.
1) He tries to blow off Hadiths as unimportant. Hadiths are very important in both Islamic history and law. They are used to understand the Quran which, like all religious writings, is highly subject to interpretation.
2) He attempts to imply some sort of agreement in the Muslim world as to the equality of men and women. Sure, in the US and Canada muslims have become more tolerant concerning equality. US and Canadian muslim beliefs don't have that large of an impact on Muslims as a whole though. In much of the Muslim world US and Canadian Muslims would be considered radicals.
iow, magomago is proffering a rather apologetic spin that's filled with speculation of what the translation of houri should be according to his own beliefs in Islam, which is influenced by him living in a more liberal society.
That's fine with me too. He's welcome to his opinion. What's far more important is what some radical in the ME believes though. I'm not sure all or even some of them would agree with magomago.
