Odd this conflicts with John Gruber's calculations.

"4.7-inch iPhone 6 will have a resolution of 1334 x 750 with 326 pixels per inch while the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will have a resolution of 2208 x 1242 with 461 pixels per inch."

We'll see in 9.5 hours!

The Chinese source definitely says 1134. Who knows.

Low res on the 4.7" would make sense. You gotta think Samsung has sources in the supply chains and limited the Alpha to 720p for a reason...

Definitely interested. I want a larger screen but don't want something that looks poorer to my eyes relative to the 5S. Will certainly not have to wait long to find out.

On another note, I've never been on the hunt to purchase an iPhone after one of these events. This time will be different since I have an upgrade to burn and a desire for a larger screen. How long after announcement do they typically wait before putting them up for sale through the normal channels? Either via Apple or the carrier.

With the thinness and reported battery size being pretty small...doubt it.

Intrigued on how accurate that Chinese leak is. Sapphire and water resistant?

Because they were already making 720p screens?

No one outside of Apple buys screens that don't have typical resolutions outside of Apple so no companies bother to make them unless they're supplying them to Apple.

I thought you could watch on Safari for Windows.
Nope.

Live streaming video requires Safari 5.1.10 or later on OS X v10.6.8 or later; Safari on iOS 6.0 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 6.2 or later.

In some previous years, you couldn't even watch the event stream at all until after the fact, regardless of what platform you were on.

---

I don't think that many people will really care that much about sapphire for the main screen. In fact, I'm thinking it won't be mentioned, and people will mostly forget about it.

Well, this makes a little bit more sense now.

The last version of Safari on Windows is 5.1.7, last updated in 2012. Sheesh.

I don't think that many people will really care that much about sapphire for the main screen. In fact, I'm thinking it won't be mentioned, and people will mostly forget about it.

Then Samsung comes out with a sapphire glass phone in low volumes around Feburary. And starts running commercials with people waiting for the new iPhone and get excited because it has Sapphire and the guy smugly looks at him and says "oh, that's what you've been waiting for? It's been here the whole time!"

But you're right about the streaming, they usually don't do their events live streamed like that. So I think the fact they are doing one means they expect it will be a big deal at some point. I just remember watching the last one on a Windows machine.

Did anyone really use Safari on Windows much? Perhaps a few web developers who needed to test for compatibility, but those folk tend to be Mac users anyhow so I can't imagine there was ever much demand for Safari on Windows. I almost want to download it just for the curiosity factor.

The day Apple killed switzerland.
Honestly, I am so done with Apple's walled garden system and money sucking schemes, Android might have its problems but I love the freedom. (I am not trying to flame anyone)

Since I use an iPhone primarily it's pretty handy because of synced bookmarks/etc. In my job now I have to use a Windows machine and I'm trying to break away from Google's ecosystem so using IE and Safari.

It was bloated and slower on Windows. And it was less compatible with certain sites than say Firefox.

Even Mac users generally didn't use Safari on Windows.
