You can silence the phone and probably have vibrate setting in the watch for notifications. For apps you can probably set them individually in each app's notification settings.

Funny how in Android Wear you can't control vibrate settings on a per-app basis just like you can't control vibrate on a per-app basis in Android anymore because vibrate = global.

Its apple, what do you expect? What will be interesting is if people buy it. People may hate them but makes my unlocked Blackberry z10 for $200 last year a deal.

If I were to get one, it would be the iPhone 6+ 64gb, which costs a whopping $399. That's the price of some unlocked phones out there (hooray OnePlus One 64gb for $349?). Doubt I can justify buying a 64gb phone for work at that price.

I am curious to know what else the iWatch does. Does it track sleep like the Jawbone?

But it does have basic notification mirroring. IF you think about Android Wear, its just mirroring notifications + Google Now. Granted Apple lacks Google Now, but they will display some stuff like weather, etc. But why limit yourself to basic notification mirroring? Its up to the user if they want to fiddle on their watch or not.
Battery Life. With a space constrained device battery life is always going to be a big issue and the more functionality you pile onto the watch the less its going to have. Given current battery capacity I'm still not convinced a full color screen makes sense for a device like this.

Remember 7 years ago we laughed at the idea of doing everything on your phone. But it ended up happening. Things that would make more sense to do on a desktop or laptop, we're doing on our phones today. Even if it means clunky non mobile interfaces where you need to type in your credit card info? People do it everyday.
Its possible but having used a smartwatch for over a year now (Pebble) I think I've got a pretty decent idea of what a smartwatch does and doesn't work well for. It works well for notifications, controlling basic functionality (pandora, music) and basic information forwarding (directions, sports scores) but not really interactivity. Maybe Apple will show us how to do interactivity in a watch form factor but I didn't see anything today that moves much beyond the novelty level.

Yea I hate that. I first realized it in hangouts because it would vibrate all the time even if I set it to no vibrate. My other apps it doesn't vibrate and the settings and notifications come in silently on my m7.

That's with a contract right? Without it's probably $749.

What apps are you talking about? I believe all notifications will vibrate regardless of in-app settings. WhatsApp is an exception because they use the wrong API for the phone. On the watch it will vibrate though.

Unlocked probably starts at $649 like last year, but thats the 6. So the 6+ would start at $749? Meaning a 64gb would be $849. Would be a hard pill to swallow even if I was an iFan upgrading every year like I do my Nexus.

Wait a minute, what about lefties? Trying to scroll with the Crown wouldn't work for them... unless the watch is reversible (as in the UI flips when worn the other way)?

Let's see.... no one has worn a watch in 10 years since they started carrying a smartphone.

So, let's get everyone to now carry a smartphone AND wear a watch.

Steve Jobs would be crying somewhere in heaven if he had believed in an afterlife.

I have to say I'm most excited about 20 band LTE, but hoping that gets implemented in the Android world is always another story.

The international version now has:

Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 38, 39, 40, 41.

It can roam the US, Europe/Asia + China. And by Asia it also includes Japan and South Korea that uses their own separate bands.

Even the US version can roam Europe/Asia (incl. Japan & SK, no China though)

Boy that is one ugly and cheap looking watch.

I had high hope from Apple for a decent smart watch. Puke.

just printed this out to see how the physical size of them will feel in my hand.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/0...-plus-find-out-with-our-handy-paper-template/

gonna cut it out at home though. most likely will go with the 4.7, the 5.5 just looks too big.

Something seems "off" on that template. I printed it off and the 4.7" version is almost an identical footprint to my Moto X. Actually the MotoX is wider than the iPhone and about a nickel's width shorter.

A Moto X is 129x65mm
A 4.7" Iphone is supposed to be 138x67

Not adding up.

I was talking about on my phone vibration, hangouts does, textra doesn't, regular messaging does, tapa does as well..But I never messed with its settings.

I use a mix of apps to mitigate that since I hate being at work and having all my notifications vibrate which is why I use textra and whatsapp.

Same here.. I would want a 64gb and no way would I pay that much for an iPhone 6+ if I wanted to leave Verizon.

I'm not a lefty but I've always worn my watch on my right wrist (when I used to wear a watch years ago). I could see the crown become problematic.

Im glad T-Mobile still does true unlimited data so I don't mind getting a 16gb phone. Although Apple is still shitty for doing that.
