Hey guys,
I have a slight problem with my current wireless network. Lets just say I live in a rather large house (5800+ sq feet) and my current wireless router/dsl modem (Westell Versalink) is not giving me enough coverage around the house. I need to know what is most powerful wireless router availible. I am willing to pay up to $250 for a sloution. What I was thinking was maybe like a $100 router and the some of those leapfroger things I seen around(they pick up your signal and boost it further) I need this solution becuase at the moment my mother is so fed up witht he range of this router that she wants to rewire the whole house and get a wirednet. I know, itd be much better, but we dont need that kind of hassle.

Thanks

its not just the router, you need strong cards too if you just go with one strong router.. its output may be fine but if your wireless card cant reach back to it its of little value. So repeaters may be your best choice.

They got those MIMO ones now... but your better off running multiple access points... I think my house is smaller.. I got 3 AP and they're all roaming so it performance great.. even out to the street..

I would also say that linksys has those high gain antenna that you can buy on ebay, on top of that.. linksys models let you set wireless repeat mode on their wifi units. Check the manuals before purchasing...

Use multiple access points, (recommended) or repeaters (less hassle but not as good as LAN linked access points)
or buy high gain omni-directional antenna

It really all depends on the location of the house (wireless signals do not carry well through concrete). However, most regular wireless g routers should carry within that range. If you want to be absolutely sure get a Pre-N router.

BTW aren't there like really huge antennas for like 200 dollars that this guy can get to boost his signal? I saw one once and it looked like a cannon.

This is the wireless AP I'd get if I needed to cover a large area. It has some sweet ass security features too.

Kind of blows your budget, but it's REALLY nice.

I've heard good solid things about Buffalo routers. Some folks recommend the WBR2-G54S 802.11g Buffalo AirStation AOSS G54 Wireless Cable/DSL Smart Router 125Mbps (34.1Mbps in real world tests) http://www.buffalotech.com/products/wireless.php

Definitely worth checking out. You may also want to look at Cisco's lineup, but that may be too high-end for what you're looking for.
