Apple to release an
AI Wall Tablet next year:
1. Home Control (and photos)
2. Siri (calendar etc.)
3. Video Calls
Aesthetics:
* The device has a roughly 6-inch screen and looks like a square iPad. It’s about the size of two iPhones side by side, with a thick edge around the display
* There’s also a camera at the top front, a rechargeable built-in battery and internal speakers
* Apple plans to offer it in silver and black options
Details:
* Codename J490. It will not run iOS or even iPadOS according to the report, instead sporting a new interface, codenamed Pebble, that's being compared to a mix of watchOS and the iPhone's StandBy mode.
* It will reportedly be centered around Siri and Apple Intelligence, able to smartly control your home using AI capabilities, in addition to other features like FaceTime video calling. Apple reportedly expects this to function mostly as an ambient computer, with users issuing voice commands similar to the way users interact with Google Assistant or Alexa devices from its competitors.
* The company is also working on a more expensive version with a robotic arm that can tilt and spin its screen.
Thoughts:
* Plenty of solutions already exist: Crestron, Savant, Control4, etc. As well as Google, Alexa, etc.
* I like smarthomes, but you kind of run out of stuff to do lol. Chest of drawers hidden TV, built-in projector with invisible surround-sound, heated floors, heated driveway, etc.
* Plus everything has gotten so cheap. $400 for a 75" TV. $1500 for a 4K LED projector. Philips Hue colored lights.
Services:
* I have cheap Alex Dots everywhere. They're like $20 on sale. I mostly use them for timers lol
* I use Lutron for lights. I have an electronic door lock & a few other goodies
* I have a 50" TV (
they're $138) &
mini PC at my dinner table with my calendar, Plectica for planning, chores list, etc.
* I have an Xgimi projector. Doesn't need to be mounted overhead & bulb lasts for a decade haha
* Wyze & other companies have cheap HD security cameras, A/C plugs, and so on
If you're an Apple house, the integration will be nice!
