Just the simple fact that search engines (Google, mainly, although you can turn it on in Duck) are de facto providing the top result for most queries now as AI generated "answers" will collectively lead to the largest disinformation campaign waged on the general public. It sickens me to have a conversation with someone, they don't know the answer to something, pull out their phone and search, then respond with what was parroted to them by some AI model feeding on its own badly-harvested data. They then have the audacity to present their findings as truth because their magic box told them confidently the answer is correct.

Well for one, the source that the youtuber is quoting is claiming they are using H100 gpu's when its acknowledged that they have the export limited H800's. The H800's are bandwidth limited in accordance with the Biden administration attempts to stifle China's AI research. DeepSeek engineers spent precious manhours and SM units to compress data in the communications between the gpu's to get around these limitations.

The issue is that the video sound like is salty or put money on nVIDIA stocks. And tends to forget that Alibaba offered their own version too, implying that there are other competitors optimizing their algorithms and is matter of time that another country like Taiwan, Japan or South Korea pull the same feat.

Will the US try to block or discredit that? Or they will improve by themselves seeing that other countries might pull the same feat?

EDIT: The stocks didn't fully recovered... that means that even without the chinese AI it was overrrated and eventually would burst the bubble.

Making stuff up? I never said you did, talk about making stuff up. Which is also true of American Tech companies these days, so again, my point is completely valid. They're both completely full of fucking shit. This idea that Chinese companies are more corrupt is shit on constantly by American companies (and our fucking President that wants to run America like he's run his companies: wholly corrupt) already doing all the stuff people are saying we need to do everything possible to stop China for, and that shit is already harming American people.

For one thing DeepSeek software is open source which means everybody can look into the model and verify whether the code holds or not.

Also everyone can download it and run it on local data, to test whether it works or not.

This will be a win for everyone in the long run, some might need to evaluate their business models, but even a company like openAI, can benefit if they can make a more efficient chatGPT which demands far fewer ressoruces to run.

As Dave put it in his video, this might be the PC vs mainframe of AI, some companies needs to run the traditional expensive models, and use them to train the "distilled" AI models which the rest of us can use with far fewer ressources which also will benefit the power grid/environment and also the possibility of improved data security.

I can see Microsoft, Apple and Google switching to distilled-AI version of their "Assistants" running locally and then sell advanced AI and services for consumers and businesses who wants to use extra features.
