The Alpha Dillema

Most of you have probably noticed that there is a HUGE demand for a PAL6035 or a PEP66, for obvious reasons of overclocking a Tbird or a Duron as of lately. Unfortunately, they have been sold out across the nation and I cannot find one for my Tbird850(its on its way).

I know of viable alternatives including the SuperOrb, Hedgehog, Taisol, FOP32, ChromeOrb and the ArticCooler(which is even rarer) but haven't made a decision was to which one to buy. Personally, I do like the Hedgehog being a copper version of the Alpha, however its rarity and price makes it a difficult choice. I have a KT7 Board which makes the Orbs less appealing, I don't want to end up trying to bend the capacitors.

I am in desperate need of a good heatsink fan combo that can support a 72 watt peltier.

I personally use a Alpha 6035, but the performance of the Arctic Cooler is supposed to be very good. The issue with the clips being defective on the first shipment of them is supposed to have been resolved also. I just ordered one Here to check it out. I am very curious to see if it lives up to it's cooling reputation. The place I purchased mine from had over 300 in stock yesterday. I don't know how many are still available.

EDIT: I just noticed the part of your post about supporting a peltier. I would imagine that you would want either an Alpha (if you could get one) or maybe an FOP38. I don't have much experience with peltier cooling, but I have doubts that an Arctic Cooler would handle a 72 watt peltier. Hopefully someone else could point you in the right direction.

I have a F0P32-1 on my current TBird 1 GHz and it works great..
The hedgehog looks to be a good cooler also and can be found for around $45 US..

Here is a link to a company called PelTec which is using the hedgehog and a 84w peltier combo.
They call it the "sledgehog" LOL

I actually have an Alpha 6035 sitting around, I can't use it w/ my FCPGA (INTEL) setup, but if you want it I can let you have it for 20 bucks shipped. LMK

It's the PFH6035MUC, that's the one w/ heatsink and fan.

but only with delta and only if u can live with it

i can tell u this i have deltas and some are louder than others

I tried an alpha using the stock fan and temp is around 48-53c under heavy load. Next, the FOP38 with the delta fan, it performed exactly the same as my stock alpha, then I switched the delta to my alpha and guess what, 41c under heavy load on a sunny day, room temp is around 70f.
