I thought the spiderman series was doing pretty good, except for the last movie. Why would they want to do a reset?

Nope. The whole reason we are getting a Spider-Man reboot is because Sony was going to have to hand the rights back to Marvel unless they made a new movie. With Raimi and Maguire moving on, they have no choice but to reboot or lose the rights. Same thing with the Fantastic Four unfortunately.

I just don't know if I can sit through yet another Spider-Man origin story....

The first 2 were quite good--especially the second. They were very much what the original Spider-Man was.

The 3rd was a case of way too much going on.

So I can't say if there wasn't a licensing/rights issue we'd be seeing one so quick but who knows. It's reboot after remake after sequel these days.

Well when I checked imdb is said something about "proto-goblin", but then I found something else that was believeable enough to make me think otherwise.
