No I said there are DX features that is not related to hardware.

So again, since you are so sure. What features will Mantle unlock that isnt already supported? And will mantle support all current features?

Ok, so what DX features are you talking about that don't require hardware support?

I never said there are Mantle features that aren't supported by DX, just that the capability is there to have features that DX doesn't support.

What words did I put in your mouth.

Do you suffer from amnesia? You clearly changed the words that I wrote.

You made a completely inaccurate and false statement.

And I owned up to it by saying, "Ok, let me rephrase that." Did you want me to beg for forgiveness?

When it was pointed out you then changed it but still made it sound like your original point was valid that it was straight from AMD's mouth. In reality you simply made that up to try and discredit what was said.

Because it was? My rephrased statement said that they all benefit from the hype. How is that not true?

If you are retracting what you said, then that's not the same as rephrasing. Rephrasing doesn't change the meaning of the original statement.

If you want to argue semantics, the first quoted words in SiliconWars' post were straight from AMD. Who's to say that isn't what I was talking about?

:awe:

Anyways, enough with you...

Is there a release date for the Mantle patch for BF4? Or is it still just sometime in December?

Those visuals are even better on Mantle-enabled hardware like AMD’s Radeon™ R9, R7, and HD 7000 Series graphics cards.
All of them mention better visuals/increased quality.

lets us see dramatic increases in performance on Mantle-enabled systems.
There is yet another adjective which kills the argument that Mantle will only give small speed improvements. You don't use words like "dramatic" for sub 5% gains. Or ridicule, or any of the others we've heard describing the gains.

This allows for a vastly larger number of high-fidelity 3D objects to be rendered to the screen at the same time.
There is another one.

...the low cost of including Mantle support doesn’t prevent us from developing Nitrous for all modern graphics hardware, which makes it attractive to us as businesspeople
This kills the argument that Mantle wouldn't be supported because devs didn't want the extra work/expense.

http://www.oxidegames.com/mantle

Q. Why are you supporting Mantle?
A. Mantle has two big things going for it. One, adding Mantle support doesn’t require us to write a whole new engine – we’re able to build Nitrous the way we want to, and it simply uses Mantle with compatible hardware. Because of that, Mantle support doesn’t cost us an absurd amount of time or money. Integrating Mantle into Nitrous isn’t trivial, but we think the benefits are easily worth the development effort on our part
Oxide games was set up a few weeks ago by a bunch of industry veterans. They have no games coming out soon and nothing to gain from the Mantle "hype".

Whatever AMD has done with this, they've made it enticing to developers. Easy to integrate and with compelling benefits, who can ignore it? Who can afford to ignore it? I expect to see Mantle being added to all the main gaming engines soon.

There's is no point in spamming this thread with anti Mantle FUD.
No one posting here has any deeper understanding of its potential than can be commonly gleaned from the released information available to all right now.
Vague allusions to some how being "in the know" and that it is all hype are just weak and obviously transparent.

It wasn't and you know it wasn't. You're tired anti-amd crap is boring.

However, enough with you.

Back on topic. I see it as a real nice advantage. I am very eager to see what it brings to the table. Heck, even a few extra fps in battlefield can make all the difference, especially while trying to mantain 60 fps. I can't wait to to see the reviews.

AMD Mantle gets support from Cloud Imperium, Eidos and Oxide

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2...n=Feed:+bit-tech/news+(bit-tech.net+News+Feed

AMD has announced that three more game developers have signed up to use the company's new graphics API, Mantle.

Cloud Imperium Games, Eidos-Montreal and Oxide Games will all start using the technology to help optimise the performance of their games when using AMD hardware.

Previously the only developer with official support for Mantle was DICE, which will be implementing support for the technology in an update to the PC version of its recently released flagship title, Battlefield 4.

“AMD is proud to play an instrumental role in transforming the world of game development with Mantle,” said Ritche Corpus, director of ISV gaming and alliances, AMD. “With the support and close collaboration between AMD and industry-leading game developers like Cloud Imperium, Eidos-Montréal and Oxide, Mantle can maximize optimization for highly anticipated PC titles, bringing an unparalleled gaming experience for players.”

AMD announced Mantle back in September, revealing it as a new API for developers to eek out more performance from AMD hardware by providing more granular access to the hardware, circumventing some of the overhead of using the likes of DirectX and OpenGL.

The games industry has dabbled in proprietary APIs in the past but they had fallen out of favour as developers preferred the cross platform support of DirectX and OpenGL. However, with AMD having managed to get its chips in all the new consoles, it has been able to push support for its technology. The upshot should be better performance in PC games for users with AMD graphics cards.

Speaking about the newly announced support, David Anfossi, studio head, Eidos-Montréal said "Mantle lets you use AMD Radeon GPUs the way they are meant to be used, unlocking many new opportunities and increased CPU and GPU performance". Dan Baker, co-founder, Oxide Games added "AMD’s Mantle technology lets us get more out of the hardware than any other solution available". And, Chris Roberts, CEO, Cloud Imperium Games descirbed Mantle as allowing "us to extract more performance from an AMD Radeon GPU than any other graphics API".

Although none of the developers have announced exactly which titles will use Mantle, Oxide Games has confirmed it will be using Mantle in its 64-bit Nitrous game engine. Meanwhile, Eidos-Montreal is currently working on Thief, which is due to be released in February 2014, while Cloud Imperium is working on Star Citizen a space combat and trading game which is being released in modules, with the full title expected to arrive late next year.

More details and a demo of Mantle will be revealed at AMD's developer summit running from 11-14 November in San Jose California.

Oxide Games has the Stardock CEO listed as a partner, I wonder if that means their future games like Galactic Civilizations 3 or Sins of the Solar Empire 2 will use Nitrous engine/Mantle.

I'm curious to see how cards like the 7850 run BF4 with Mantle.

My target is 75 fps with everything at low (cept mesh quality) at 1080p on that game. If a 7850 with mantle can achieve that, it would be lovely. As my 6850 is already overkill for the rest of the games I play (PoE, LoL, AoC lol).

it looks like that's a definite yes, Stardock put up the money to found this company and with its references to the engine being 64 bit only and primarily a RTS engine it pretty much has to be.

If you remember, the GC3 press release stated it was a 64 bit only game. I can't wait, I loved GC2 and SotSE.

Pretty excited that AMD is supporting Star Citizen and Stardock, their checklist of companies is starting to look a lot similar to my favorite companies. All they need now is to help announce Quake 5 Arena with Mantle support

Agree. Nv then needs to lower 780 prices to under 320usd.

No. The plan is to sell you a similar performing card for an extra $100 then you can buy a new $400 monitor so you can use their latest and greatest new feature, GSync.

LOL. G-Sync, or should I say, $1,000-Sink.

This thread is about Mantle, not 290 vs gtx780 or GSYNC. Let's get back on topic.

Anyone else here pumped about Star Citizen? Game looks pretty incredible, pretty cool that it will support Mantle as well. It's Crysis 3 (Graphics) meets a Space sim sandbox...

Considering minimum specs require 8GB of RAM, it sounds like it will be Crysis 1, but worse. I get they want their game to look great (and Mantle can help it), but having such high requirements not only alienates your user base, but makes me wonder if you're spending all that time on graphics and neglecting gameplay. Crytek said their games are 60% graphics, which is probably why I only enjoy them about 40% compared to the average FPS.

The crazy specs right now aren't that concerning. This game isn't due for release for quite some time. Hardware will come and go in that time.
