Meanwhile AMD is busy attempting world domination with Mantle and Nvidia is basically all-in with OpenGL.

DirectX is finished, it's just that AMD and Nvidia went about it in different ways.

Another brilliant post! Shows you know exactly what you read in marketing slides and very little else. Still waiting for the 290x to ridicule anything.

Why do people mention OpenGL? I can't remember the last game that used it. I remember loving the choice to choose between OpenGL and direct3D. I always used OpenGL because it was way faster and had no mouse lag. I duno, i'm kind of afraid that different parties will fight over this and make such a stink that nothing will get done or change.
EDIT: I found the list of OpenGL games. Its a long list of mostly old games with a few sort of recent ones.

Around the time of the SteamOS announcement, Nvidia made a big deal about OpenGL support. The tie in makes for interesting speculation about the future of gaming and OpenGL.

Considering Linux support has been pretty abysmal, any improvement would be nice. I still don't see OpenGL beating out DirectX any time soon. It has been behind DX for awhile and besides Valve, Blizzard, and id developers have really shied away from it.

Its about as interesting as amd mantle without the console wins = hardly worth discussing. But even less because amd will have the entire apu line cgn comming and even warming up for hsa.

I understand nv move but its got no perspective at all. If they had won the consoles it would have been different.

The talk at apu13 is way over my head. Much to technical and abstract at the same time.

What i find interesting is how mantle is developed in the consoles with hsa in 3-5 years time. How much hsa feature will ps4 use? How will future iterations of ps4 be different here?

They do a lot of talk of hsa for a soc and mobile perspective and doing all this java development. Its all very right from a business perspective. But for us pc nerds how is the higher end effected?

One could perhaps look at mantle as a frontrunner for hsa on the consoles and after that pc? I know kaveri is fully hsa enabled in hardware, but i mean software adoption of hsa.

You got so wrapped up in berating me you forgot your original point.

How much effort do you think Nvidia is putting into DX these days? Both AMD and Nvidia decided to ditch DirectX a while ago, they just went about it in different ways. OpenGL suited Nvidia because it was their key to breaking x86. Going all in with ARM was their play, and OpenGL was their way in to ARM.

If you understand this stuff at a deeper level you realise just how far behind Nvidia is regarding their own Mantle-type API. They didn't even consider it, let alone consider AMD would do something like this.

OpenGL was Nvidia's future in graphics. They did the only thing that made sense to them.

Well, Valve is pushing things really hard. Lately they got Metro LL into Steam OS last week and announced Total War: Rome II for early next year.

Yeah, Valve is trying to get developers, because if they don't SteamOS fails. If we only get 6 year old Valve games on it, nobody will bother.

I don't think Nvidia thought something Mantle-like would ever happen.

AMD has a great strategy leveraging the consoles so that Mantle could even exist.

Makes you wonder why AMD was able to pick up some of their old employees again; Jim Keller, Raja Koduri and John Gustafson.

It's a really exciting time!

Didn't know if this warranted a new thread, but AMD has confirmed the PS4 supports TrueAudio
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7513/ps4-spec-update-audio-dsp-is-based-on-amds-trueaudio

Who will guess xbox does the same? Lol. Its all the same.

Does it warrent a new thread?

I dont know but now we know mantle is just as well sound as gpu. I have been over it several times weeks ago - mantle is everything sans lte lol. Its therefore we were shown yesterday we already have several games lined up to use truesound.

We have a new sound standard. Super 3d sound in games. Its just great. Looking forward to bf5 with crazy good sound

It's running, did you sign up at the first page? You haven't missed anything juicy yet, just fairly technical stuff from Johan so far.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a repost of this presentation? I'm currently doing a screen cap in case it doesn't get posted but the screen cap software is buggy at times so I'm not sure how much of the footage I can capture.
