Xfire issues have to be placed at AMDs feet, that has very little to do with Dice. Equally the lack of support for most cards, that is also AMDs fault. The myth that was spread that this was about BF4 issues seems now largely to be debunked, if it was AMD waiting on Dice we would have everything already, fact is AMD wasn't remotely ready and has rushed it out the door.

So rushed infact most people with AMD cards can't use it. *sigh*

Holy christ, DICE decides to release the patch, even though the driver got delayed because of a last minute bug and its all AMD's fault? Obviously.

AMD is obviously the devil of all the world's problems from what you guys are saying.

So, 2,4% more performance in gpu-limited situations.

What a game changer.

Way to cherry pick one example out of the ton of info that was posted.

You should have ended your post with "Nvidia rulez, AMD droolz" for maximum effect.

Warning issued for inflammatory language.

It's extra performance for free, that's nice no matter how small it is

And as you can see, Crossfire systems are being held back alot even by an i7 3970x

2,4% - this is AMD's official number in a gpu-limited scenario.

I dont know but i guess it's a cherry picked number...

/edit: So, is the iGPU of Kaveri fast enough to create a cpu limit? If not, Mantle has no advantage for Kaveri without an additional GPU. And adding a discrete GPU to Kaveri is a little bit hilarious.

Well it's nice to see they fixed the problems in BF4 anyway, I am getting MUCH more consistent frame rates and no huge frame rate drops. On altai range there was a space in the map I would drop from 80+fps to less than 27 for no reason. Now at that same spot I was at 94 FPS. Heck I don't even care about mantle for BF4 now this update alone fixed a major problem I was having. Going to test more, hopefully AMD can get their driver working at some point. Sounds like it still has a way to go.

fast cpu, single and multi (even better)...because of the multicores linear scaling...
so, where is that "10%" or less?
where some online reviewers took those ~2% or less ?
anyway, i want to see other benchs...and hope they release the drivers which support 7000 series soon...

What a mess. Now we find out that not only do you need a gcn card, but after all the delays, it still works with only a few gcn cards and kaveri apus which as others have said, are very rarely going to be used in a medium to high end gaming rig. And even then, the results are very hit and miss as to how much improvement there is.

Guess I was right in prediction earlier in this thread where I said crossfire would be 50% better. I can imagine what this will do for quad GPU systems.

well, good point...but if the results are those and they say that it will only improve over time, i can even wait a little longer... no prob, the result is more important than a few weeks of waiting

Well I figured out why I am getting such better FPS in BF4, seems they reduced the draw distance on some objects.

Well, it is an early beta. Did you really expect everything to work on all cards from day 1? I am waiting for the dust to settle before deciding what I think of this. The way I see it, we can get improved performance for free, so I am grateful for even a little boost.

Now we find?
This was known from the very first day AMD shared any information about Mantle.
Currently the API is made only for GCN.

We also knew that the it helps most when in CPU limited cases, when comparing to DX11.

The limitation of to the x series of cards at beginning was a surprise, but I'm sure we will see patch to fix this as well.

Hopefully they will release new patch in future which will give some new graphics options, increased programmability should give some interesting possibilities.

I hope AMD/ATi and DICE work together to get tile based Crossfire working in Mantle in BF4.

AFR in a real time game has always been a stupid idea.

before people start looking for data to suite there agenda i'll leave this hear:

Thanks, that is why I included it. Wanted a good spread. But also don't have the resources or time to do super extensive testing and comparison. There will be plenty of hardware review sites that do their own extensive comparisons. Though you should ignore sites that test multiplayer on empty servers.

Mantle is out.

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2979150493815503479

We’ve started rolling out a new Battlefield 4 game update on PC. You may experience some downtime during this rollout, as we are also updating the game servers. As usual, it will take a few hours before the majority of servers are updated.

This update is mainly designed to prepare the game for the upcoming release of the expansion pack Battlefield 4 Second Assault. Find out all about the new Mantle renderer in this news post [battlelog.battlefield.com]. We will announce the release date for this expansion pack later.

This update also includes the first release of Mantle support for Battlefield 4 on PC. This update also addresses various other items, detailed in the patch notes below.

If the game update doesn't start automatically for you, you can trigger it by going into the Origin Client, right clicking Battlefield 4 and selecting "Check for updates".

Jan 30 PC Game Update Notes

Mantle Support
The new Mantle renderer has been added in Battlefield 4. Most players can expect a performance increase by using this new low-level graphics API. Check out this news post [battlelog.battlefield.com] for the full details on Mantle, what the requirements are to run it, and how to enable it.

CPU/GPU performance and monitoring
-Tweaked and improved CPU multi-core utilization to try and avoid stuttering and low framerate due to stalls that happened on some CPU and OS configurations.
-Users can now configure and control themselves how many CPU cores should be used in the game with the new “Thread.MaxProcessorCount” settings in User.cfg.
-“Render.DrawScreenInfo 1” now also shows information about which CPU and GPU is in the system, how many GPUs & CPU cores are used and which renderer (DirectX 11 or Mantle) is active
-Added new “PerfOverlay.FrameFileLogEnable” command that records frame times on CPU & GPU and logs out to a .csv file
-AMD Catalyst driver 13.12 (or later) is now recommended instead of 13.9
-Enabled tile-based compute shader lighting optimization on Nvidia for improved GPU performance (already active on AMD GPUs)
-Improved performance with rendering and spotlights for all GPUs, primarily in in-door environments

DMR Balance Tweaks
-Increased the damage of all DMRs across all ranges. Specifically, damage has been increased at long ranges to allow three-hit kills against unarmored opponents. Additionally, reduced the penalty to accuracy for sustained DMR fire, allowing more rapid follow up shots in combat. The amount of the damage increase varies from weapon to weapon, according to its intended range, rate of fire, and damage. We will continue to monitor the effectiveness of DMRs in combat, and determine if additional action is needed to make DMRs a viable mid to long range weapon.

Other Items
-Greatly reduced the risk of crosshairs disappearing, which would also result in hit markers disappearing
-Added a headshot icon on the killcard. This should help identify instances where players are correctly killed by one shot
-Fixed an issue in Squad Deathmatch where the “Win/Lose” text was overlapping
-Fixed an issue with players using an exploit for the SOFLAM
-Fixed an issue with players using an exploit for the MAV
-Fixed the gameplay code to properly track the FOV (Field of View) changes in the options menu
-Fixed an issue where chat would break when entering "false" or "true" in the chat window
-Fixed an out-of-helicopter glitch in Air Superiority where players could spawn on the ground and play as infantry
-Fixed the misaligned crosshairs on the T90 MBT
-Added setting to tweak joystick dead zone
-Various minor crash fixes

Not going to happen. Repi said several times already that Mantle makes AFR work exactly the way they want.

And regarding Mantle rollout, about time.

Sadness, hope to test Mantle when the driver comes out....... today maybe?
