Happy to see it finally arrive. As I think most people expected, you get the biggest benefits from a lower end CPU. But considering this was a game not made from the ground up for Mantle and how large gains can be in some set ups, I'm excited to see what future games can do when they are coded for Mantle from the earliest stages of development.

But people do pair older CPUs with better cards or even go SLi/CF. The amount of life breathed into older Q2Q, X6, 1st gen i7 and current AMD CPUs is massive. Someone that ran out of GPU upgrades is able to upgrade again.

Anand/Ryan Smith must be reading the things we state here. They should do a mantle test with different CPU/GPu combinations to us and AMD should help them with this.

BTW, where the guy questioning us about a video card to drive with his i7 870??

I'd wait for Mantle reviews but the 58% performance increase with a 3970k + 2x 290X combo is quite something.

What about we trade the 3970k with the FX9590 on the sentence? How much will be the performance gains?

Especially because it would be bottlenecked.
If a $100 CPU is all I require to have a $500 GPU achieve its potential, why wouldn't I pair them?

But what about a Fx6300 driving a 7990?

Did you not read Dices post? It really sounds like you ignored it.

Getting a 58% boost when using a i7-3970X with SLI 290X's is not a big enough jump for you?

Here lies the strong of mantle. And is for a market range where $200 more will not give you 50 more performance.

Thank you, this is the exact situation im in... people seem to think along the lines of building a new PC but not everyone is in the same boat

i have an older i7 920 and went out and got a 290x to play BF4, i didn't feel like building a whole new PC for one game and i bet im not alone

I have also said this a couple of time, but I am even worse off.
AMD X2 240. Embarrassing, I know. But BF4 runs ok, and I don't
care to spend much more money on that rig.
10% to 20% would be nice.

Those early results look pretty good.
Hard not to smile at those who said it wouldn't happen #doom gloom.
Graphics driver arrives shortly and then every site in town is going to test it out.
And it's in January.^_^

And what did you expect? If the GPU is fully maxed at a given time, an API wouldnt magically add more compute power. Or you expected it to emulate more shaders and GPU resources or something? I expect it to remove CPU bound minimums, and that is a win.
In the end your poor trolling attempts only reflects your almost zero computer knowledge. :whiste:

Aha. So why do we need Mantle at all?
Everybody with an Intel CPU have this kind of performance since the start of BF4 in october.

Nobody is pairing a low end CPU with a $500 card. There is no advantage for people playing with an iGPU outside of 720p and low detail settings. And mid-range gpu buyers have no advantage from Mantle because he will always run into a gpu-limit.

So, an useless API for 95% of the market.

Because any game that doesn't use Mantle will not run well?

Not really.

The results AMD showed were a 4960x with a 260x and a a10-7700K witha 290x. So they were extremes. As dice showed. Something middle of the Road like an FX8350 with a 7970 gave a nice 25% boost.

People with Core i5 CPUs will get a similar 20-25% boost. That is pretty good. People with Dual GPU's no matter the CPU will get Massive boosts.

So that begs the question. Why isn't this good news all around?

Lots of "nobody" & "everybody" and absolutes with the assumption that 95%
of the market has or is willing to buy a high end CPU in your statement.
Or were you being facetious?

I was not expecting the huge boost for Crossfire - was that expected? Is that just down to a better AFR implementation in mantle? Really curious to see how my AMD rig in sig below does when I get home from work today.

Well, I'm happy to be in that 5% that can get a 50% boost for free and the game I play more than any other.

Who here expected more 200 fps on a 4960x with 2x290x??

Why mantle is a disappointment?

Maybe because an incredibly small percentage of people are actually able to accomodate the power-hungry ( >700w load system power consumption) and expensive ($1300-1400 street price) dual R9 290X? Maybe because almost no one with such a setup would actually run the game at 1080p resolution?

So atm with my 7990 I can look forward to even better frame pacing with 14.1. I will have to wait for Mantle support down the road, which will probably give me ~20-25% better performance due to a somewhat old CPU.

Dice said GCN 1.0 is not yet supported. But then AMD came out and said 1.0 is supported, but is not fully optimized.
