Now, with the addition of all these huge SUVs and everyone trying to go 75-80 just about all you can do safely is get in a lane and follow the guy in front of you.

I also think they should make anything that gets less than 15 MPG observe the truck speed limits (55 in lots of places)... or pay some sort of gross polluter tax.

Your "snaking" through traffic was more dangerous.

In fact, you made the guy's point.

hey, that was a few years ago before i got old and all... i readily admit that there is a valid reason why teen/early 20's guys have higher insurance rates.

when the speed limit was 55 and people in the fast lane were driving 55 (and no one was in front of them and they weren't moving over), there wasn't much choice but to try to get around them... it made driving a whole lot more fun than it is today.

The reason people don't take public tranportation is because it's not convenient and takes alot more time than driving in many cases.

In the Bay area, it could take 20-30 minutes to drive to work and 90 minutes to take public transportation to the same location.

Why would people do that if they didn't have to. Also, the public transportation would be more expensive!

That's just plain stupid. I do know alot of people that take van pools rather than take a train due to time/cost.

As for gas prices, the market will decide what the prices will be based on supply and demand. People have already stopped buying as many SUV's due to the higher gas prices. In the bay area, the toyota prius hybrid is one of the most popular cars right now. I see them everywhere.

Hybrids in many cases can outperform a gas car, why are people afraid of them? Ford has the escape hybrid which gets over 30 mpg in the city and on the highway.

The car companies will adjust to the new reality as will the general population. It doesn't mean everyone will have to drive tiny cars...

Ah, maybe you are one of the SUV drivers that enjoys paying $70 to fill up.

Since you enjoy it so much how bout paying $140 instead and make that extra $70 payment to me

OT and P&N are next to each other...sometimes it gets too slow in there and it spills over.

Again, your complete idiocy NEVER ceases to amaze me.

I drive a VW Passat as a daily driver, and a Mazda 626 as a beater. I also have a motorcycle for fun.

Oh yeah, I'm such a gas guzzler, huh?

Additionally, I was arguing AGAINST the people complaining about high gas prices.

On top of that, you again show that you have no concern over what laws are passed other than what unearned rewards people can give to you.

I don't mind speeding too much unless drivers are being stupid (speeding while it's snowing, raining, or ice!)

Who the hell are you to figure out what's best for all of America? Explain to me how public transportation in the form of buses, trains, and subways will work in places like Wyoming, Montana, and Ohio?

I'll drive my 12 mpg sports car and my 15 mpg Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab all day long, and I'll do it happily at $3 or $4 or $5 or even $7 a gallon of gas, because I can and its my right as an American to drive the vehicle of my choice that I'm properly licensed for when I want to.

i wish tomorrow we woudl all wake up and gas woudl be 7$ a gallon,

Why?

You do realize that the people most hurt by that would be the lower classes, right?

because it would hut so many people that it might actually force automakers to stop wasting money developping cars with huge HP numbers and start making cars that get 50 MPG

and also if the govt put a 5$ tax on gas they coudl use that money to fund welfare, education ,SS,... whatever

This is some crazy ass thinking here Anubis, but I seem to see it from you all the time... a failure to grasp "The Big Picture". My first suggestion is that you search through the U.S. Patent Office's archives and look for internal combustion engine upgrades and modifications. You'll be surprised at what you find. What you'll really be surprised to find is a patent for an engine that gets over 100 miles per one gallon of gasoline. You'll also be very surprised when you find out who owns the patent.

This shouldn't be hard to anyone in America to figure out, but it seems people just can't put two and two together. Why would oil producers want a vehicle that gets 50 miles per gallon? 100 miles to the gallon practically scares them to death. They sell their oil to afford their 140+ foot long yachts and 80 rare vehicle collections and bullshit like that.

Automakers have had the plans and the knowledge to make vehicles that get ridiculous mile to the gallon ratios, along with enough horsepower to satisfy most consumers. Oil producing businesses and individuals are the reason these technologies never saw the light of day...
