Years ago, Paypal let my account's email be changed without any OTP. I tried really hard to reason with them, telling them they can't just give my account to someone else without authentication from the existing linked email address. To no avail. Thankfully, that account wasn't used much. Just a few days ago, I received an email from Microsoft telling me that my gmail address was used to create a Microsoft account. That seems like a Microsoft flaw, to let accounts be created for domains they don't even own.

American investor Martin Shkreli is facing a new lawsuit for allegedly retaining and sharing recordings from a one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album that he was forced to sell following his 2017 conviction on fraud charges.

"The lawsuit was brought Monday by a cryptocurrency collective, PleasrDAO, which purchased the only known copy of the album from Shkreli for $4.75 million. The album, “Once Upon a Time is Shaolin,” has not been released to the public, functioning as a rare contemporary art piece since it was auctioned off by the famed hip-hop group in 2015."

"“Any dissemination of the Album’s music to the general public greatly diminishes and/or destroys the Album’s value, and significantly damages PleasrDAO’s reputation and ability to commercially exploit the Album,” the lawsuit states."

Trust me, it's a Good Thing $ETH mining dried up. The pains and agony of the constant noise + heat in an enclosed space (my apt), was definitely real, and I'm glad to have gotten out of that, magical internet money or not.

That seems odd, I can see if it affected people literally working in these buildings but seems odd the sound with travel through multiple walls and to a very long distance and still be loud. It's not that much different than a data centre.

Lot of those mining setups use high pitched fans though, so maybe that sound travels further.

They don't really have power "supply" problems. They have grid uptime problems. Most of these mining operators are a single customer pulling a lot of power. That kind of customer is much easier to serve than an equivalent number of homes spread out across multiple neighborhoods (for example). Some of these miners have onsite power production.

Why would Texas pay the miners not to operate on days Texas is short on reserve power then?

Texas paid bitcoin miner more than $31 million to cut energy usage during heat wave

To ease load on aging grid, state program offers energy credits to bitcoin miners to curtail their power consumption.

How often does that actually happen? Looks like slightly more than 7 days out of the year. That isn't the Texas grid's biggest problem, by far. And they aren't the only ones participating in the power share program that can pay large customers to curtail power usage during heat waves.

The cited example is a particularly large Bitcoin miner being payed $31 million last year at the rate of $175k/hr to shut down. That translates to ~177 hours of downtime, total, for the entire year.

Yes you're having heat waves, no it doesn't (necessarily) mean that the le Buttcoin miners are shutting down for every heat wave that comes along. Also given how many people are claiming the le Buttcoin miners are destroying their health with infrasound, it sure looks like they've got their operations running full tilt!
