Of course, given that the primary writer for and owner of TMZ is Jewish has nothing to do with the ridiculous amount of coverage that website is giving to this "scandal."The sheriff's department has indicated the report posted on TMZ, including the anti-Semitic comments, is accurate. I find it sad that anyone would claim Gibson's remarks are NOT anti-Semitic when they obviously are.
Well Gibson is learning the hard way how hypersensitive the Jewish community can be. Sh!t like this happens when they've been persecuted by the Romans, Crusaders, Europeans, etc for centuries.Originally posted by: Starbuck1975

Also, Howard Stern mentioned this morning that one of the sheriffs involved in the incident is Jewish as well.
Not saying Mel Gibson didn't say what he did...he may very hate Jews...just think this thing is getting blown out of proportion, and there seems to be an agenda behind dragging Gibson through the mud and over the coals over this.
Uh, that's kind of missing that for a relatively unknown website this is a huge story that they are responsible for breaking. Purely from the perspective of being a business decision it makes sense for them to hype the story as much as possible, especially because all sorts of new people are going to their website for the first time as a result of this story. It has nothing to do with whether one of the website's writers is Jewish or not.Originally posted by: Starbuck1975

Mel got arrested for drunk driving ... good as he should.
Does he have to apologize for saying jews cause wars? I mean, is that a crime to say that? How is that criminal again?
That's his view and other people share it.
Who hear thinks people should be arrested for speaking their opinion? Speak up?
You do realize that freedom of speech is one of the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, no?
There are numerous celebrity gossip websites...most are reporting on the Gibson story, but TMZ is leading the speculation and accusation charge before the facts were out...hell, even Howard Stern, who is also Jewish and outraged by Gibson's comments, commented that TMZ is going a bit overboard in their presentation of the "facts." There is a distinction between a sound business decision (reporting the story) and an agenda (adding a slant to a story).Uh, that's kind of missing that for a relatively unknown website this is a huge story that they are responsible for breaking. I don't get what the deal is with everyone in this thread questioning reports on this issue after they have already quite definatively been established as accurate.Originally posted by: Starbuck1975
Now, if it turns out that Mel, in his drunken stupor, made some anti Jewish remarks...
http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/01/gibson.dui/index.htmlLOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Actor Mel Gibson on Tuesday admitted making anti-Semitic remarks during his drunken driving arrest and appealed to the Jewish community to help him recover from his alcohol addiction.
"I'm not just asking for forgiveness," Gibson said in a statement issued through his publicist. "I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one on one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing."
Gibson, 50, said, "There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark."
He apologized to "everyone in the Jewish community."
At this point, I don't think anyone can question the remarks...however, I do question the intent behind the witch hunt that began well before the facts became available.I don't get what the deal is with everyone in this thread questioning reports on this issue after they have already quite definatively been established as accurate.
Exactly...had he gone into William Wallace mode, and went on a rant against the British, no one would care. Now who here thinks anyone would've cared if Gibson had made the same remarks about Catholics, Protestants, Hindus or Muslims (esp. Muslims)? This molehill has been turned into a mountain because of the extreme sensitivity of the media towards anything negative about Jews.

So he's apologized for it since obviously he wasn't in a right state of mind. Lets see if the Jewish community and ADL decide to continue to punish or forgive him.
Edit: Doesn't look good so far, judging by this guys name (Ari) I'm guessing he's Jewish and doesn't care to forgive:
Influential talent agent Ari Emanuel has called for the movie community to boycott his future projects.
"At a time of escalating tensions in the world, the entertainment industry cannot idly stand by and allow Mel Gibson to get away with such tragically inflammatory statements," he wrote on the Huffington Post weblog.

This molehill has been turned into a mountain because of the extreme sensitivity of the media towards anything negative about Jews. Everyone should get equal treatment yet I see Christianity, Islam and other faiths bashed without regard all the time. Where's the public outrage when people like Michael Savage, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and many others in the media make vitriolic comments about Muslims and Islam in general? I don't see Rupert Murdoch clamping down on this sort of rhetoric at all. If one religion (Judaism) is going to garner this much outrage over a few comments made by a drunken actor and go as far as punishing him (e.g. cancelling his film projects and advocating boycotts) then these people should direct the same outrage when other religions/ethnic groups/races whatever are attacked.

You know, I get so sick of the politically correct in this country. Censorship when someone says something contrary or not of popular opinion. And then on top of that everyone is going to black ball him, and ruin his career over what most of the hypocrites in this country already do... and that is getting plastered on the booze and saying stuff thats offensive to people while drunk. At least the Japanese are more forgiving. The Japanese generally do not hold what you say against you while you are intoxicated. We all know, pretty much the majority of this country and other countries know that the Holocaust did happen, but does this mean that someone can't express their opinion about it or about other religions or races even if it is not well received? Personally I think the Tabloids and Media need to focus their attention on education and other areas of real newsworthy stuff.
I honestly don't know why this gets you so worked up. I'm Jewish too, and I don't give a rat's ass what Mel Gibson thinks or says. Why would I? He's one guy. It's not a revelatation to me that there are anti-semites around. What's one more hate-filled bigot? It's not like he's an elected official with the power to change policies.Originally posted by: Doboji

Mel was perfectly within his rights to be a bigotted ass... but don't expect me to sit quietly and accept when ANYBODY pisses on my culture...

You think that's bad, there was a poll where most respondents stated they wouldn't let their daughters marry Atheists. Now if that had been Jews instead of Atheists all hell would have broken out.Originally posted by: Doboji

I can't believe you think everyone should just let it go just because he apologized... that is just ridiculous... Mel Gibson is a bigot... he can apologize for being a bigot all he wants but that doesn't absolve him of his bogotry. ESPECIALLY because he hasn't even admitted to the anti-semetic slurs, or for that matter refuted the ridiculous claims he made. Not that I would believe he was genuine even if he did refute them.
It's not a witch hunt when it's real.
I'm also so sick and tired of people coming up with the everyone else excuse... show me an example of a drunk bigotted actor making racist comments about someone else, and I'll agree with the boycotting of that actor. But to dismiss anti-semetism on the grounds of "noone cares when people are biggotted towards *X* people, so why should we care about anti-semetism" is so stupid as to borderline retardation.
Frankly as a Jew... if I were a movie maker, there is no way IN HELL I would let Mel Gibson work on, in or related to any movie I have any control over.
So you are better than Atheists? What a fscking bigot!Originally posted by: Doboji

He's admitted to making the "anti-semitic" comments while drunk and not in a proper frame of mind. He's gone as far as apologizing for them and offered to meet with Jewish groups, talk about going above and beyond. Now do you get outraged when similar comments are made about Muslim, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs or Athiests? I doubt it.
It's not a witch hunt when it's real.
Actually since you brought it up, it is a witch hunt. This is always the case anytime someone makes a remotely derogatory comment about Jews.
I'm also so sick and tired of people coming up with the everyone else excuse... show me an example of a drunk bigotted actor making racist comments about someone else, and I'll agree with the boycotting of that actor. I've listed the names of bigoted people that make anti-Muslim/Arab comments all the time. Where's your outrage? Where's the Jewish communities outrage and solidarity with them? Like I said, I don't see you guys standing up for anyone else or demanding boycotts when other faiths are attacked yet you demand the world be turned upside down if the Jewish faith is slighted in the least.
Frankly as a Jew... if I were a movie maker, there is no way IN HELL I would let Mel Gibson work on, in or related to any movie I have any control over.
No surprise there, you'd probably blacklist his kids from college and a career if you could or even throw Mel Gibson in prison if it was in your power.

And if the respondents didn't want their daughters marrying atheists for religious reasons, whats wrong with being against marrying Jews because of religious reasons?

Bigot! Taken from Merriam Webster:
Main Entry: 1cul·ture
Pronunciation: 'k&l-ch&r
Function: noun
the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group;
Seems to me athiests are a culture just as much as yours is but I guess they don't count in your world. See how easy it is to sling the word bigot around? Now that we've established you're a bigot, your career should come to a halt and you should make 10 apologies per day to all the athiests of the world.
