One of the best BF3 attack chopper pilots I ever saw flew by himself, switching seats. He was deadly with the TV missile and would take out the opposing AA and attack helos at spawn. He was constantly accused of hacking because of that. LOL

And if a two manned helo made it out of spawn, he could freakishly out maneuver and out shoot them by himself. What drove me insane playing against him was the fact that you could never get a lock on him because of all the seat switching.

We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has played the Battlefield 4 Beta! Your feedback has been crucial in testing the underlying infrastructure and reporting both bugs and balancing issues to ensure a smooth launch on October 29. In this blog post, we want to bring up some of the key findings and how we’re addressing these for the launch of Battlefield 4. Thanks again for playing and keep the feedback coming on the Battlelog Beta forums.

Low frame rate/stuttering
PC players may have experienced trouble in the Beta getting the game running at a good frame rate. Rest assured that we’re using the information we received to optimize the performance for the launch of the game. We also released three game client updates and a number of game server updates during the Beta to address some of these issues and to gather more information to ensure a smoother launch.

Stuck on loading screen
We have identified some of the reasons why players, mainly on PC, were getting stuck on the loading screen and are currently working around the clock to decrease the rate at which this occurs. The latest PC patch for the Beta helped for some players and we are confident we will be able to minimize this issue for launch.

High CPU usage during the Beta
CPU usage could sometimes skyrocket for dual, quad and six-core processors. We identified some of the reasons and released three patches with fixes that went live during the Beta, to address the problems. This was a true Beta, and as such all the crash reports that were generated during this period will actually help us make a better game.

Controller layouts (X360/PS3)
We’ve increased the available controller options in Battlefield 4, including the new controller layout and multiple alternatives that we hope will make you feel right at home. If you’re more comfortable with the controls from Battlefield 3, we’ve got you covered. Just by bringing up the options menu, you can choose the “Legacy” layout, which is similar to that in Battlefield 3.

Empty server listings (X360/PS3)
While in the Server Browser you may have seen lists of empty servers. By changing the filter options, you’ll be able to find populated servers that you can join. You can also use the “Quick Match” function to quickly get into the action.

The elevator catapult (All platforms)
Although an interesting concept, elevators were never designed to act as a catapult or teleporter. The bug where the elevator button would catapult you up into the air is fixed for the final game. But we did enjoy all the crazy videos you’ve posted. Thanks!

Gameplay balancing
We are still balancing gameplay, and in true DICE fashion will continue to do so well after the release of Battlefield 4. Below are just some of the gameplay changes based on your feedback that we’re making in time for the launch of the game.

Infantry Changes
-Fixed how the player only receives a single local damage sound effect if he or she was the victim of a quick, clean kill. The sound and camera impact effect had too long a cool down between hits. This should improve the responsiveness of being killed and taking damage.

-Reduced the fire rate of the AK12 in burst from 1000rpm to 750rpm. The rate of fire was too high when combined with the low recoil of the weapon, making it more powerful than intended in burst mode.

-Tweaked the compensator and muzzle brake so they’re properly less accurate in sustained automatic fire.

-Reduced and rebalanced full auto accuracy based on rate of fire for all automatic weapons to balance low ROF weapons. Low ROF weapons were remaining accurate long enough to get easy kills outside of their intended optimal range.

-Increased the default throw distance of the portable ammo and med packs. This makes it easier to throw these packs to teammates.

-Portable ammo packs now reload 2 magazines of bullets instantly and up a total of 4 magazines per pack over time. The player must stay on top of the ammo pack in order to benefit from all of the ammo reloading. Grenades, RPG’s, and other explosive launchers do not benefit from the instant reload function of the Ammo Pack.

-Increased the muzzle flash of the 25mm and 40mm launchers to make their threat position more visible.

-Fixed an issue where the knife stab didn’t align with the kill event.

-The revive time has been increased from 7s to 10s.

Vehicle Changes
-Fixed some descriptions of weapons for vehicles that incorrectly described the function of the weapon.

-Increased the damage of the Stinger and IGLA to 3 hits to kill attack choppers (was 25%, now 35%).

-Increased the speed of all TOW guided missiles to 75m/s from 50m/s so they can catch-up to fast vehicles like the Quad bike.

-Increased the sustained fire accuracy of the Coaxial LMG on armored vehicles because it was underpowered.

-Reduced the damage the 40mm and 25mm infantry weapons do to armored vehicles to highlight their anti-infantry role.

-Reduced the damage main gun on the IFVs against other armor to highlight their primarily anti-infantry role.

-Fixed an issue where the tank main gun did not correctly hit the center of the crosshair at all times.

-Multiple options are now available for controlling how your vehicles steer with a joystick on all platforms, as well as improved the responsiveness of steering while accelerating.

Locking Weapon Changes
-RPG7 and SMAW can no longer lock on to Laser Designated Targets. It was inauthentic and not balanced.

-Fixed some projectiles not warning vehicles when they were fired on a Laser Designated target. Reduced the lock on distance for RPGs, SMAW, and MBT LAW missiles to 350m from 500m. This gives the IGLA the clear long range AA role for soldiers, and keeps the team play element of Laser Designation.

-All Laser Designated missiles now do a maximum of 90% damage to Attack and Scout helicopters (down from 100%). This was done to give helicopters a chance to use their Fire Extinguisher countermeasure even against Laser Designated weapons.

General Changes
-The kill string in the score log now appears sooner, making the UI more responsive to a kill event.

-The aim assist on X360/PS3 has been tweaked to be more consistent at all ranges. The assist was over powerful at close range, and not powerful enough at medium range. Players should now find that close combat requires much more player input and the snap to a target is far less forgiving. At medium range the player should experience a bit more assistance tracking targets, but generally still reduced aim assist effectiveness.

PC Specific Changes
-Fixed a string in On Foot PC key bindings that should have read “CROUCH (TOGGLE) / PRONE (HOLD)”.

-Removed an unused “Underslung” key binding on PC, the “Select Gadget 1″ key binding now controls both of these actions as expected.

What server is this!?!?! Thats where I want to fly. Whenever I play its insta SOFLAM lock on takeoff, and Im lucky to last more than a few minutes dodging all the stingers and heatseekers launched at my helo.
I've been on plenty of servers where jets go completely unchecked and it kills the server. Helo's don't usually get away that long, but jets can be unstoppable, especially if it's a CQ small with no AA or you get a person that gets the AA and stays in the base.

Meanwhile Jets can basically defy physics and come to a near stop then jet off again.. if you fire a SAM at them they flare or ECM then just fly to 900M wait for recharge then rinse and repeat.. so unless you got a great pilot on your team to deal with him it's ALT + F4

That reminds me of another thing in the BF4 beta. The mini guns in the transport chopper seemed to do nearly nothing against anything other than other choppers. You had to pepper a rooftop sniper with what seemed like 100 hits to kill him, and you could forget about hurting a ground vehicle.
Many times I hopped out and did more damage with my rifle and even pistol, the miniguns are junk on those

yeah I wasn't super thrilled

they probably shouldn't really be a threat to tanks/lav, but they should shread jeeps and people and hurt attack helos a little more


I don't like also that they modeled 4 seats in the back of the helo you cant use, 8 person battle bus would be epic, a squad to operate the helo and carry more of another for transport would be sweet

so, is the RPG going to lock on or not? RPGs are a dumb weapon, but they did this in bfbc2 when you needed that little dart gun....

Doesn't the real TOW missile fly at like 300m/s?
yep, but a game it is.

I agree. The only real threat to a good jet pilot is another good jet pilot.

Im not all that great but I like flying helos so thats what I was referring to in my previous posts. On the upside, the BF4 helos are much easier to fly, the controls feel much tighter compared to BF3's slop.

The first ticket to nerftown goes to the AK12.

I only played beta multiplayer one night and with the laggy screen it was a steep learning curve. Is it better than BF3 MP so far despite only playing 1 map?

I had a lot of fun with it after the patches cleared up my lag and stutter. I also loved BF3, so its too early to say which is really better after only playing a single map.

Some nice things about 4:

-The new game mode Obliteration was really fun if you had a decent team.
-Five man squads were a nice addition.
-Player and vehicle movement/controls seem faster and more responsive.
-Parachute jumping is leaps and bounds better than before, its much easier to pick a spot and actually land there.
-The weapons felt nice and accurate. (though they may change that, see my little rant above)

I only got to play like one night of the beta but was pleased overall. I had two or three crashes/disconnects and got hung on the loading screen at times but while actually in the game it seemed fine.

Pistols seem pretty weak, but that could just me not being accustomed to normal mode. I'll probably have to wait and see how hardcore feels before making any judgments.

I love the new compass on the minimap, thank god for that. But can you make the minimap less transparent? I didn't see an option for it and increasing HUD opacity didn't seem to help.

Also I miss the CP markers/"letters" on the edge of the screen. I probably won't need them once I play the map(s) a sufficient amount but they would have been nice for getting my bearings early on.

Offering HC in the beta would have been nice, but I think it should be good to go. I didnt think the TTK was too bad even on normal with infantry weapons.

However, the vehicle guns were another story. The tanks had little splash damage, mounted MG's were weak but they already mentioned fixing that. The transport helo mini guns were useless, and the even the attack helo rockets and cannon seemed to do little damage.

I'm sure it will be, it just made me feel like the guns were inaccurate/bad aiming since people didn't drop quick. I remember one time I snuck up on a squad and could only kill 2 of them because I ran out of bullets and the pistol was useless:/

This. I only play HC in BF3, so the TTK was super high in the beta. I was always disappointed when I got the drop on 3+ people because I couldn't just wipe them quickly and move on. I never had much problem with the pistol though. I could easily swap to it and take at least one guy out.

Hardcore is too prone to trolling on servers without active admins or !punish abilities. It would of given way too many players a negative experience of the game if they tried a hardcore server in the beta.

I have more pistol kills than I do with my most used rifle(of course Ive used lots of pistols but its still always my secondary weapon) just over 10% of my kills in BF3 are with a pistol of some sort

the pistols are fine....

Pistols were beastly in the BF4 Beta. I found them better than DMRs....

If you knew that 2-3 players were going to move through a choke point, you could mow them down with the pistol. Especially if they didn't realize that they were low in heath already.

I was able to get 4 people quite a few times...once with the 870. Of course they didnt even know I was there. Sometimes though, I would unload on one guy and not get a hit marker. Or then I'd move onto the second person and for some reason the first didn't die when they should have. I dont think it was suppression. Maybe lag or a bug. A few times I know it was a bug or cheat, because the guy was invincible. I unloaded one clip, then died while on the second clip. But its much better than what I remember in BF3, where the suppression was so strong you couldnt get a hit marker if you were 3 ft in front of the person.

The pistol seems to work best when you spam it. It takes like 4 hits.

I was able to get 4 people quite a few times...once with the 870.
The M26 Mass was awesome fun on Domination, you can clear a flag area quick with it. Its biggest advantage over the other shotguns is its fast reload, not to mention you have full auto primary for longer range stuff. :sneaky:

I used the first DMR for all of about 5 minutes, I cant remember what it was but that thing was junk. I sure hope my beloved G3A3 is better.

It was amazing for two days for me then went to complete junk. Not sure if nerfed...

My video i posted further up i forgot about changing fire modes. I seem to get caught up in the play and forget you can do that. lol
