Anyone in here using the M98B anymore? Or SRR-61 all the way now?
I chose the M98B with straight pull bolt over the newer gun. This is a choice that should depend on your sniping behavior.
Main difference between the guns are:
M98 shoots faster and holds more rounds while the newer gun shoots slower, but with flatter trajectory and holds fewer rounds. I am a fast paced sniper who does a lot of leading on moving targets, so the extra speed of the M98 benefits me, as does the extra rounds in the mag. The M98 bullet drops more than the newer gun, but with practice you can hit someone at any distance.
The newer gun would be more suited to someone who is more of a camper type sniper who sits a long way off, since the bullet drops less its easier to manage your holdovers, but that's the only benefit. The M98B still wins out IMO. BF4 makes long range shooting easier to manage due to range finders in the scope and zeroing, so the flatter trajectory of the newer gun can be compensated for with these new tools, but of course practice is most important.
So many times in BF4 I shot someone in the head on first try at what would have been an unknown and unfamiliar distance in BF3. My only though was that this was too easy for the stationary targets. They took some of the art out of sniping to level the playing field for those who are less skilled at managing holdovers. But between zeroing distances, you still need holdover skill, so a good sniper will still PWN an average one.
