So I ordered a 7870 and it died on me after a week (what a PITA!). Anyways, went back to the 6850, and it really doesn't seem to be that much worse. It defaults to medium, whereas the 7870 defaults to high settings. I really don't see a ton of difference (playing at 1080p on a 32" TV). Am I crazy?

I haven't seen a big difference going from Ultra to medium. I suppose if someone pointed out specific things you might notice some things. A couple of settings make a difference with things like water and vegetation, but it kinda doesnt matter once you start playing.

I notice with pretty big when coming from my PC on medium to playing on an Xbox One.

Xbox One looks better than PC on medium? I have BF4 for PS4 but haven't played it yet. My friends say it looks great, but they dont play on PC so they dont have a proper frame of reference.

It looks pretty good for ps4. I don't have it on pc but I'm sure I could run it on high.

Angled grip makes a huge difference on DMRs.

And using an AR if assault or a carbine if anything else makes a bigger difference. DMRs are categorically awful and you should stop using them.

Is anyone in here even use the FGM-148 Javelin or the MK153 SMAW? I saw many RPG-7s, SRAW, and MBT LAW, but the other two weapons is greatly underused.

I use the SRAW to pick off snipers more than armor lol. It's nice to guide the rocket across map and take out a sniper.

And yup. Haven't been able to play BF4 on High or Ultra, but the Xbox One is definitely better than PC Medium.

I noticed a pretty good improvement in visuals going from low/medium to ultra. Explosions look a lot better, terrain has improved, vehicles are detailed. I'm happy with my upgrade, gave me playable FPS too.

It might be the TV, although since the XB1 is running BF4 at 720p, they could probably turn on some effects that might be off on the Medium preset, like 2xMSAA instead of FXAA, and turning off ambient occlusion.

Yeah, I kinda agree. Some of my best games have been with the SKS. Just have to learn how to control the spam fire and they are deadly.

The problem with better terrain and vegetation is that I found it harder to pick out prone snipers. So while it looked better, I set it to low!

Yeah, the XB1 is upscaling. I was on Ultra but the dips drove me crazy. I think at this point I'd rather have CS level graphics and play at high frame rates and be able to see people easily.

I was just curious. I'm going to check out the PS4 version over the holidays, but from what I've seen in gameplay videos the console versions of BF look good for 60fps, especially when you compare them to the PS3 and 360 versions.

My UCAV must be broken since I seem to be able to only use it once per spawn. I fire it and wait and wait but it never reloads. After a little while it explodes but I cant ever switch back to it again. Pressing 4 does nothing and when I scroll through my weapons it doesnt appear there either. Ive dropped ammo boxes all around but that doesnt help either.

It takes -forever- for it to reload, like 30 seconds in front of the ammo box.

There's a trick to reloading it as fast as possible. As soon as you switch weapons, drop another ammo pack, reload a gun, basically anything other than standing there, the reload timer for the UCAV resets.

If you just fire it and stand there doing absolutely nothing you can reload it ever 22-25 seconds. When you get 2-3 kills everytime you launch it (with airburst) then you know it's completely overpowered.

No, they're categorically terrible. The stats on them are awful. Low RPM that contributes to horrible times on accuracy resets. An AR is more accurate and settles quicker than a DMR. The TTK on all of them is so bad because they require 3 body shots minimum to kill whereas an AR with 3-4 times the RoF requires 4 shots to kill.

I whored the M417 badly in BF3 with a red dot or a 3.4 depending on the map. I loved that thing but I understand that bringing that level of power back as an all kit weapon is a bit much. I'll just stick with my ACR I guess and the brokenly overpowered 93R (why does the G18 even exist with this in the game?).

I'm playing it with a 6850 on medium and it seems pretty crisp, not sure what I could be missing. Then again, I'm still looking at a 270 for an upgrade in a couple weeks.

Anyone still getting the sound cutting in and out on certain maps? I'm still getting it, even though I thought the last few patches have resolved this issue.

Edit: Also, anyone else feel like the sound in BF3 was better designed than BF4? In BF3 I can at least hear tanks or helicopters approaching from far, and bullets whizzing by are better directionally so that I can at least tell which direction the bullets are coming from. IN BF4, maybe it's due to the sound bug, but I just hear the sound of tanks and helo when they're already close by, not when they're far away. And the bullets popping around me seem like they're not directional at all. Sadface.

I have no sympathy for bushwacking snipers! Most of the competitive players are playing on low settings. While that is nothing new, there seems to be an actual tactical advantage as opposed to just an increase in frame rate. Even the FOV effects draw distance. Mesh detail and terrain decoration effect gameplay. I was going step through each setting and see whats important and the effect on frame rate, but of course someone already did it:

BTW, terrain decoration settings are actually reversed in BF4, with low = ultra, normal = high, high = normal, and ultra = low.

Agreed. But even on BF3, I have everything set to Ultra (MSAA turned off though) and 1440p (native res). When I'm looking through the scope, instead of barely being able to detect a guy laying down out there in my sniper scope, I see lets say total sand colored texture, and, clear as day, a guy laying right there to shoot.

Way way too easy...
