Obviously you never played BF2.

I didn't, but "it was in BF2" does not mean "it's a good idea for BF4". Nothing about it sounds good to me. More stupid remote air strike crap (mortars are bad enough as it is and to me it just reminds me of the awful awful CoD killing spree bonuses), potential for abuse/apathy/favoritism, and ultimately I'm not sold on the idea that "commander allocated resources" has any upside compared to "evenly distributed resources". I actually think the latter encourages more squad teamwork because the commander can't bail you out.

Plus the last thing I want to do is actually have to turn in-game voice back on.

Yeah, unless there are actual "counters" to commanders, there is no real point in including one.

Lack of destroyable assets is huge.

It's very interesting addition of some extra strategic element. I am sure DICE learned a lesson about balance from BF3 as well, and it won't be a screwup.
I recall the airstrike wasn't THAT bad in BF2, but I wouldn't mind it not existing. I agree on that one. Your argument with mortars is valid, too.
Other than that, I really think it will be nice feature. You just have to vote out all the imbeciles who get to jump in that seat

You should maybe play BF2. First, in squad VOIP is what helped cultivate collaborative squad behavior. Further more, when played by someone competent, the commander extended the incentives for teamwork by directing the flow of traffic. If you were in a decent squad, and I was in many, just randomly assigned, your squad leader would relay commander orders and you could coordinate on the fly through VOIP. For me, that's what differentiated it from COD MP, and I was really bummed those features were pulled in BC2 and BF3.

Same here. Even in pub games a lot of people, from what I remember, used VOIP including me. With a half decent couple of squads and a competent commander, a team could do fairly good.

Maybe this is out of the norm, but I don't play BF unless I have at least one friend of mine on Vent to play with anyway; I think I played solo in TDM once or twice when I first installed the game just to get my feet wet.

I have no interest in actually communicating with the rest of the players. I don't really even want to play with them. I play to play with my friends and my friends are my squad. We work as a team, win a lot, play for the objectives and are especially good at bottlenecking opposing troops at exterior points which benefits the whole team. But I don't see any of us actively communicating with a Commander or giving a crap what he wants us to do.

I hear ya, but all my friends play on console. Currently, I only play CQ maps in the Domination style it has because I can make the biggest impact without needing my team to do anything. Most of the time, we get people just trying to camp or just going for kills. I try and capture every flag I possibly can. =(

Blue's News - Battlefield 4 campaign details

New Battlefield Blog Post - Battlefield 4 – Campaign Details Reveal

[QUOTE]The world is on the brink of chaos, China is the tinderbox and you and your squad are the inadvertent spark that could ignite a global conflict. This is Battlefield 4. As Sergeant Daniel Recker, you play as a member of an elite group of unlikely heroes known as Tombstone squad, navigating the turmoil around you as you fight to save the final hope for peace.

In Battlefield 4, you take on the role of Sergeant Daniel Recker, member of an elite group of soldiers known as Tombstone squad. While on a mission to collect intelligence from a defecting Russian General in Baku, Azerbaijan, your squad is discovered and you must fight your way through waves of Russian troops in order to escape. Upon getting back to the USS Valkyrie, a Wasp class carrier, the intelligence you’ve retrieved confirms previous suspicions. The Chinese Admiral Chang is planning a coup in China, and if this happens, the Russians would back him up.

With this intel secure, the USS Valkyrie sets a course for Shanghai. You and Tombstone squad are sent on a covert mission into the city to extract a group of VIP’s. China is in uproar after the U.S. has been implicated in the assassination of Jin Jié, the future leader and voice for peace in China. Admiral Chang has canceled elections and martial law has been declared. As U.S. and Russian naval forces position themselves off the coast of China, and the situation quickly escalates into a stare down akin to a tinderbox waiting for a spark.

In Shanghai, protestors clash with police as the streets are filled with chaos and turmoil. Tombstone manages to find the VIP’s, among them a CIA field operative known as Laszlo W. Kovic. With him is a mysterious individual that the Chinese military has been franticly searching for. Together with Kovic you fight your way out of Shanghai and back to the Valkyrie as countless civilians flee the city, many of which are brought aboard the Valkyrie as refugees. With communications dead, the Valkyrie sets course for Singapore to rendezvous with the USS Titan and the 7th US carrier group at their last known position. As you reach Singapore you are shocked to find a horrific scene of fire and mayhem. The flagship is sunk and its fleet is eradicated, and from this point on nothing is certain.

Are you Preapred 4 Battle?
You won’t be going alone. Here are high quality renders of the other members of Tombstone squad who you’ll be fighting alongside.

new Battlefield blog post - Design your dream dog tag (It might end up in BF4!)

What would your dream dog tag in Battlefield 4 look like? Get creative and your design just might end up in the game for everyone to wear!

We knew hunting for dog tags was going to be big – but we never knew how big. In Battlefield 3, we introduced hundreds of dog tags for the taking, and the battle still rages. Rest assured that Battlefield 4 will carry on in that tradition – some dog tags will be awarded for clearing certain milestones in the game, while some will be available by snatching them from enemy players.

We will get back in the upcoming months to talk more in-depth about the enhanced and deepened persistence in Battlefield 4 – but for now, we want to see what your dream tag would look like. Make something awesome, and we might even consider including it in the actual Battlefield 4 game!

Here’s how this will work:

Grab the blank dog tag template below.
Design anything you like on it.
Give your design a name (max 30 characters).
Save your masterpiece as a JPG or PNG.
Upload it to the Battlefield Facebook channel and tag the image ”MyBF4Tag”.

C4m6X1Lh

The Battlefield team will continually highlight great fan made designs in the upcoming weeks. If we find something that blows our mind, we might contact you and ask if we can include it in Battlefield 4. If we do, our designers at DICE will give your dog tag a professional artist pass, build it, and include it in the game code for launch.

That’s it! Grab the template above and start creating. We are eager to see what you will come up with. For inspiration, you can see some of our finished dog tag designs for Battlefield 4. We know you already have some cool ideas – Threads like this on the Battlelog forums are awesome.

You can submit images to your created tags by hosting them on imgur and linking to them in the comments below!

BF3 pissed me off big time with this. At leave give me a choice. Why on earth would assault be black, and engineer caucasian? Fking being politically correct even in games. WTF!

WTF is right, you racist. Who the hell cares what skin color you character is?

Edit: Aaah seeing that you live in Europe, I forgot it's acceptable to be racist. Why don't you go back to your soccer matches and make monkey noises with the rest of the racists.

Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Count May Be Increased To 70, Graphics Heavily Optimized For AMD

According to a source that spoke to BF4Central, Battlefield 4 developer DICE could be looking to increase the player count from 66 to 70 players overall. It could be even more.

This is reportedly due to the current unevenness of squads. 66 players, which includes two commanders, would mean 32 players for each side. This of course means that for 5 player squads, the seventh squad for each side would have only 2 players. The increase of players for each side would be done to ensure squads remain even all throughout (if 70 for just the players and not commanders, then it would become 7 squads of 5 players each).

Also, according to other reports, it seems that DICE is optimizing the game for AMD hardware as part of a partnership between EA and AMD for select titles. Considering that both next generation consoles are running on AMD CPUs with Radeon GPUs, this makes sense. However, even PCs will benefit from the deal.

As it is, EA maintains that DICE is working with more than one partner for having Battlefield 4 run smoothly. Suffice to say though, that AMD hardware will see the biggest gains in performance.

Battlefield 4 is currently set to release on October 29th for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, with an Xbox One and PS4 release set for later.

Source

So this is good for those of us who are confused on what graphics cards to upgrade to.

AMD Radeon seems to be the way to go for Battlefield 4, unlike Battlefield 3.

Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert !

The first 5 minutes of the campaign (in Polish, I think)

BF4 Central - Battlefield 4 Deluxe Edition contents revealed

The Battlefield 4 Deluxe Edition and its contents have been revealed by UK retailer GAME. We’ve previously known about the Deluxe version, but now it appears to have some new additions to the package.
So far the Deluxe Edition appears to be only for the UK, but it’s only a matter of time before it’s announced for other territories. Last week, an unofficial “Collector’s Edition” was revealed as well.
The Deluxe Edition includes a copy of the game in a Steelbook case, a set of three gold Battlefield 4 Battlepacks — which are sets of unlocks used in multiplayer, and the free China Rising DLC.
The Battlefield 4 Deluxe Edition retails for $5 more than the regular version, and we’re not sure if it’s worth the price. The only exclusive item is the Steelbook game cover. The BattlePacks will be available to all players through unlocks, and the DLC is free to anyone who pre-orders the game, regardless of what edition it is.
Battlefield 4 has been doing well when it comes to pre-orders, especially on next gen platforms where it’s outselling first party titles such as Killzone Shadow Fall on the PS4 and Forza 5 on the Xbox One.
