What exactly is this test participation? Another beta for something that's already out? D:

RE// Your link to 'The best gaming monitors'.... I'm a long-time PC gamer (since @ '92).

I do not agree with the chosen list of monitors in the article. Possibly it was written before the Eizo FG2421 came out. Gaming friends of mine have some of those monitors in the article. After their comments to me, and my research into the Eizo, I got the FG2421 last November (2013).

...It's an extremely 'fast' gaming monitor with excellent color reproduction and contrast....

I couldn't be happier with this Eizo.

It's cute to make statements like this, but it's borderline gross ignorance. It's a beta test server for new releases. It's also something you want.

Here's the (basic) old model for software.
Develop.
Alpha test.
Beta test.
Redevelop.
Beta test.
Redevelop.
Beta test.
Redevelop.
Beta test.
Release.

Today we're lucky to see this:
Develop.
Alpha test.
Beta test.
Release.

It's a software industry standard these days, release times demand faster cycles. Given that, many bugs make it into releases. A public beta test environment allows for more testing (at the users expense) to replace testing we lost upfront.

WoW uses this model to great success. It's used outside the gaming industry a lot too, MS has public test releases on many products.

That Eizo is hands down the best if you can afford it. The biggest issue with it is that it has a higher minimum strobe rate than most so you really need a beefy system to take best advantage of the motion blur on it. Also you can get a light boost TN panel for around half the cost..... but if money is no object...

Making the plunge and taking the time to learn to fly choppers.

The attack chopper definitely cannot climb out of an aggressive dive at all compared to the scout.

I LOVE being the Engineer/repairer/with Stingers on the small fast choppers... it's a BLAST, but ONLY if you have a good pilot.

I think all pilots should fly as 'Support' class, and then put box of ammo on the chopper.... then I have unlimited stingers.... sweet...

I mostly play Golmud map/Conquest.

I'm tired of being repair bitch and just watching people fly these things. I'm extremely happy that they put a test range in to this game so that I could make all of the idiotic mistakes on my own for half an hour before trying it in a real game.

However I flipped the controls for yaw and roll as a test, put them back, went into a real game and it kept my incorrect controls and did a roll after take off right into the ground while trying to counter it. That was fun going back to the test range to figure out what the heck just happened and then looking at the controls and going, "Really game? Really? I already changed that back."

looper is right, I have flown with some amazing pilots and it's never "repair bitch" duty. Hell a good pilot rarely gets hit.

Add to it a pilot who's support dropping ammo in the helo? Forget about it. That's some damn good fun. Take the ammo crate out of it and it's significantly less, even with an amazing pilot.

Well I've evidently never flown with a good pilot. LOL

While active radar and stinger missiles abound, its really tough to go unscathed. Id rather fly than repair any day, I just wish more people would repair when Im flying. Most are just snipers who want to use me as a taxi service, asking to be dropped off on a mountain or building. LOL

Exactly. I would say only about 5% of pilots are excellent. (combination of flying skill AND great strategy/tactics). I just don't understand pilots who don't fly in 'Support' class and put that ammo box on the chopper... If they do that, and fly well, hell we'll go the whole map without dying and w/ a BIG score.

Best pilots I've seen (and I play a lot)...

Only Engineers should ride on the choppers... simple as that. And with Support/Pilots...

Umm it doesn't matter how good of a pilot you are... a decent aa operator or a handful of guys with stingers on the ground are going to take you down

Levelcap seems to be pretty positive on the 30 tickrate change in cte. Not surprisingly it drastically reduces a lot of the problems with the netcode. Reduced screen shake also seems pretty welcome. I personally am looking forward to those two changes.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous on 64 player, though copting could be fun sometimes. One time, I got into a heli, began flying and was taken down within a minute. Definitely not my fault as I was just roaming the air for my gunners to take down enemies

There are a few things lately that are starting to chap my ass probably more than they should.

1. For craps sake, join a damn squad, and follow squad leaders orders. Help your damn squad. This leads to number 2.

2. Don't be a fricking squad leader if you're not going to give orders. And for damn sure listen and accept orders from a commander on your team, if you've got one. The commander can see the entire battlefield and can tell you where best to go.

3. Lastly, Don't command or lead a squad if you don't have a mic.

I would be happier than a pig in shit if I could consistently play in rounds where people do things correctly from those three standpoints. Aside from the obvious benefit of winning, stop leaving all of those easy points off of the board!

End of overly angry rant.

High ping feels much better than low ping in CTE.

Also, they are asking us to judge the game with no unlocks. So everything we know about weapon handling has been thrown out the window. It's hard to tell if you're missing because of attachments changing how your used to guns shooting or not.

Also, there are only LA servers and Netherlands servers. People all over the world are playing on those servers. Every server is full of 150+ pingers, and it's pure misery for anyone with a decent connection.

I joined a NL server and had a 120ms ping and the game was FAR better for me there.

Well, for me personally I don't like using the mic. I'm fine with talking on it, but sometimes I don't feel like getting it out and I just use my TV stereo. And guess what, people are always talking and I just mute them because it's annoying.

If I want to have a serious match (not casual like how I usually play), then I'd grab some friends to play.

Cool, then just don't lead a squad or command, as you're halfway neutering the effectiveness of the roles. Just a suggestion, play however you'd like. I just find it stupid for people to leave all of those easy extra points out of the equation.

Meh, i'd just wait. You still aren't gaining that much.

The only other thing i think causing my low minimums and low gpu usage is the fact i am still on Windows 7. Not sure if there is still a huge difference but i know in beta when i had Windows 8.1 preview i saw a massive difference.

Sounds like the CTE and the game are exactly the same, as far as the pings go. After playing with a server full of high pingers, you should understand exactly what Ive been bitching about forever. Ive just about given up playing on US servers in the a.m., and only play here at night. LOL

Its nice to get into a coherent squad, but when playing with random pubs it's a very rare thing indeed.

Id rather not be the SL, but if I am I will mark objectives, though I rarely turn on my mic anymore. Of all my hours playing BF4, only once have I heard a commander use voice chat.

I think most people, myself included, would rather use teamspeak.

I just got a free iPad 2 a week ago, and have been playing commander mode. Never bothered with it before that. At the start of each game, I click each squad and ask "Squad leader, do you have a mic?" The squad leaders that do always have significantly enhanced support from me throughout the game. I tell them right at the start (if on conquest) which flags grant me the right to keep a gunship up for them, or allow me to keep the cruise missile up for them. When they communicate with me, our team has always won the round. You even get thanks for being a good commander from them sometimes. I now find it quite gratifying to play commander now, as before I just ignored it all together.
