Im pretty sure it's the last patch causing it since Ive tried multiple older drivers that worked fine before. Its only the Dragons Teeth maps that crash on me, especially Pearl Market.

Thoughts on the summer patch? Notes looked mostly good. Zavod night takes some getting used to. Using flir/irnv seems almost required. Ton's more people camping it feels like.

I felt alright running around with a normal RDS. Except for especially dark corners inside some of the buildings or below C/D I don't really feel it's that hard to see - the dark is not drastically different (darker) than BF3's Death Valley imo. I still like it, though I wish that some of the UI elements (which I've already customized pretty extensively) would fade a bit specifically for that map. I find they're pretty distracting but if I made them any smaller/dimmer then that'd probably impact how readily they can be found on lighter maps as well.

Patch seems okay so far, although I havent tried Pearl Market to see if they fixed the DX hangups myself and many others were having on there.

I like the new Zavod night map, although it takes some getting used to. I think its much darker than BF3's Death Valley, in fact its so dark after most of the lights are shot out that I wish there were night vision goggles for my soldier to equip. Unlike DeathValley there is no super moon in Zavod, the moon was nearly as blinding as the sun in BF3, especially if you looked straight at it! LOL

The map Siege pretty much has the worst performance of any map in the game right?

Played some Golmud Highway and Lockers on this older rig with a Q6600@stock and even with 64 players those maps get me about 48-99fps and those are purely what the cpu can deliver but on Siege i am getting like 28-45fps.

Siege of Shanghai can really wreck havoc on older hardware especially if the tower gets taken down.

Yeah i went on empty servers and noticed way better frame rates but still less then other maps but the frames were really garbage if the server was filled with people.Other maps this isn't that big of a issue.

Not a big deal, will look into more maps and see if this is a particular map issue or what.

Benching a gtx970 with a Q6600@stock.It's my buddies card but more or less seeing what the cpu can deliver fps wise so i could dial in about which gpu i should consider upgrading for this rig.

I know settings like resolution scaling can certainly make the gpu the weakest link long before the Q6600 even comes into play lol.May even run out of vram and get a crash before the Q6600 factors in.

Have you tried an AMD card and running Mantle? Might be an improvement there with that older CPU.

64p is pretty brutal on the cpu. Mantle helps a ton for a lower end cpu. Though nvidia has better performance in dx11 for weak CPUs.

Been running the 32 bit version of the game, mostly cause i got 6gb of ram.Was under the impression it was locked to low but other settings have been usable which confuses me.:\

I play more CS:GO and COD BO2 then i do BF4,and BO2 certainly likes Nvidia. With the right gpu, both of those games with this Q6600 pull well over 100 with BO2 hitting upwards of nearly 200fps with max settings.

Performance out of this world in BF4 isn't exact paramount but maybe Switching to W8.1 or even 10 could open up more frames.I know settings like Ultra really are to harsh so running low or medium would work.Still investigating it atm.

Even though BF4 lets you choose higher settings, I dont think they actually work. I remember testing it on an older PC I had (Q6600, GTX285 and 4GB of RAM) and it let me set everything to ultra even though the GTX285 was only a DX10 card. When I tested high and ultra settings it looked the same as on low. Keep in mind I tried this right after the game came out so there have been several patches and updates since that may have changed everything, and with DICE every update is a mish mosh of fixes and breakages. LOL!

On a side note that same machine ran BF3 on medium settings like a champ.

I know when i had my buddies 970 in here and ran 32bit,ultra would actually cause erratic frames, higher gpu and cpu usage and constant disk access. On low i had no issues so god only knows whats up with that so i will just keep it on low.Hard drive light barely if ever lit up when i had it set up on low and frames settled well enough.

Gonna give BF3 a try when i upgrade this pitiful ddr2 9500gt to a gtx750, BF4 only worked for me cause of resolution scaling and its support of a 640x480 resolution.Play me a bit more CS:GO as with the 9500gt it just works for 1366x768 on low.

So Ive been playing around with an R9 290X I recently picked up, its the first Team Red card Ive had since the old Radeon 9800 Pro's heyday. LOL! Anyhow, I was wondering whats up with mantle? When I run mantle I do get higher max frames but also wild frame rate swings with dips that chug into the low teens. On the other hand with DX11 the max frames are a little lower but the game runs butter smooth with very little deviation in frame rate. Just wondering what others that have tried mantle think of it.

It would take a platform upgrade but even moving up to a i5-2500k (skt1155) would make a substantial difference w/ it. When I changed from a qx6700/4GB setup to the i5, it was night and day difference. Sadly, then I became gpu limited so still had to play at less than ideal settings.

In response to a lot of camping, I felt that over a year ago, I can only imagine it now.

Regarding a night map - one would think that they would have implemented some night vision other than what optic you use. I am speaking without playing the map, again due to not playing in quite some time (not even installed - entire game) due to my feelings listed above in addition to others. When I read about a new "night" map coming out with no wearable night vision, well, I just thought it be another ridiculous action on top of many considering what the game is supposed to be. Hell, they had wearable night vision back in the BF2 days with the SF pack, along with the Gas Mask, which imho should have remained in the continued game.

Last, is BF4 picking back up in popularity? When I uninstalled, finding a semi populated server was a chore, let alone anything related to team play. I have played the bf series since the 1942 days with all the Expansion Packs along the way. When BF:HL was announced it was over for me, and now BF5 being announced (or possibly further?), the game to me is a FPS that has become like a sports game, basically same game just player name changes anymore.

Sorry for not addressing those individually but I am sure you can see what I was responding to, and sorry for the mini rant at the end, it was sad to see the evolution of this game go backwards faster than it went forward, just a clusterf*ck now. Again, just my opinion.

I have to agree with bob4432 above - having played Night Operations, I think it's silly that night vision, a la BF2:SF, wasn't incorporated. You essentially have to stop and look through your INRV scope every few seconds or you have no hope of performing well. That makes for very non-fluid gameplay.

It's an interesting map, but it's not one I'll be playing regularly, and it's actually really hard to find among active servers.

I agree NV goggles should have been the first thing on the list of additions for any night map. When I play it I stick to FLIR enabled vehicles.

I run mantle on my r9 290. Works great for me. Less dips into the double digits.

Yeah, after all the good things had read about mantle I find it odd that DX11 runs so much smoother for me on the r9 290x. Im running an i5 2500k @ 4.4ghz so there probably wasnt any real cpu bottlenecks to begin with, but why mantle has such huge frame rate swings still puzzles me. Running everything except terrain decoration on ultra with DX11 it stays between 90-130fps, but with mantle it will be running up around 150fps then suddenly and randomly chug down into the low teens. :\

Edit: This is at 1920x1200, all that my current monitor supports.

Sad the game has gone through devolution :\

They arent perfect by a long shot but IMO, BF3 and BF4 are leaps and bounds better than the earlier games in the BF series. The new ones fit my play style much better.

But on the other hand....Hardline should never have been given the BF title. Im with ya on that one, they lost me there.
