you can't get in if you haven't pre-ordered correct? The open beta for general pop is in two days correct?

If you had BF3 premium you can get in.

Tried to play this last night but couldn't get past the deploy screen. Mouse arrow could move but I couldn't click anything. If I waited I would get kicked due to idling.

The tanks reticle aims low and right, so compensation is necessary.
This. Also the projectile seems heavier and drops more, getting used to both took a couple rounds. One thing I REALLY like is the 5 round "magazine" system on tanks. No more boom-boom-boom x infinity. You also have to be selective if you want to use the cannon or machine gun vs. infantry. Dump 3 shells on a couple infantry then run into a tank and you're screwed.

Loving the game so far.

My Windows 8 box appeared to be smoother than my Win 7 machine despite having less powerful hardware... Until I updated DirectX on Windows 7

What? Could you be more specific? Reinstalling directx in windows 7 improved the performance to be on par with windows 8?

It's so frustrating that there is no definitive word on whether windows 8 really is faster or not, just a bunch of hearsay and rumors.

Wasn't so much "performance" but I was getting stuttering every few seconds on my windows 7 box, but only after the tower collapsed. I ran DXSETUP from Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 Beta\__Installer\directx\redist folder and the stuttering was gone.

The game is still a CPU hog and SLI is still broken, but the stuttering is gone for me.

It is now very playable on all three of my machines which consist of my sig machine. A 2500k/HD5870, and a 2600k/650Ti

I went from windows 7 to windows 8 after hearing all the stories and i can say i am a believer, windows 8 and this game is almost flawless besides the latency issues going on and the occasional frame dip but overall much smoother.

I too had a problem with tank rounds not going where the reticle was centered only I found the rounds to be going low and to the right (which would mean you would have to correct by aiming high and left to hit what you were aiming at) and seemed much worse at longer distances.

eh, not me. It's more of a configuration issue than anything. I'm running both side by side and after that DX update, there's no describable difference that I can attribute to the OS. People have issues, do a clean install and attribute the performance gains to the new OS, when in reality it was a fresh install and likely an updated direct x along with it that did the trick.

Just to reiterate, if you get stuck on the "Loading" screen, update punkbuster (pbsetup). I've now had to do that on both of my systems, including one that was playing the game fine the first day.

I always get that stutter near the bridges. If I look towards the skyscraper after looking away performance tanks.

I installed the game exactly as i did on windows 7,as far as i know dx 11.2 comes installed on windows 8.1.....unless BF4 beta itself is just one of those stupid ass games that refuses to install the latest dx automatically then i could see why i had so many issues on 7.

Is BF4 and windows 7 simply retarded about having the latest dx installed?I installed the game on windows 8 exactly as i did on 7 and have zero issues on 8 while i had a boatload on 7....

Well, you didn't... You've had your windows 7 installation far longer than the windows 8. You didn't do a clean install of 7 then install the beta. 7 also doesn't come with the latest DX. Your defining "installing it the same way" by virtue of downloading and installing, there isn't a whole lot of different ways to install it, but there are several factors that aren't the same that I mentioned above.

I'm not doubting that Windows 8 fixed your issues, I'm doubting that Windows 8 is "the fix"

Hope your right,i hate windows 8 with a passion and I am reinstalling windows 7 as we speak, reinstalling 331.40,fraps,msi afterburner and origin and the game along with google chrome exactly as I just did with windows 8 .

Shouldn't have any issues doing a exact reinstall of windows 7 as I did 8 with programs and the game assuming I also update dx.

I was extremely surprised to see 40-50FPS with everything on high and MSAA off on Radeon 5850. Very smooth. Perhaps I don't need to ugprade yet.

What CPU? I have a 2500k with a 5870 that can't get those numbers, but I have a 2600k with a 650Ti that can. I'm thinking about swapping GPU's and see what happens, or maybe just disable HT on the 2600k

You might as well install Classic Shell, stick to desktop mode and stay with 8... I'm not crazy about it either, but it's here to stay unfortunately.

Yes one of the best improvements is not having the constant ammo spam from vehicles. Especially tank shells and moreso for the chopper gunner. I'm loving the chopper in BF4!

I hope they tighten up the shooting prior to release. It just seems extremly random at the moment.

In bf3 you could control recoil and aim for the head. In the beta so far I don't notice a difference between headshots and aiming for their feet in TTK. Characters are very jittery as well.

Keeping in mind this is a beta, I'm pretty happy over all; but not blown away.

I like the fact that they are bringing back things from BF2, like commander mode, squad VOIP and "limited" ammo for the main guns in vehicles.
I like that they are giving us destructible environments (busting through walls with a tank is always a hoot) and tweaking weapons to be slightly more realistic (RPG and tank rounds have a much steeper drop off).
I like that they are restructuring the classes, once again bringing back BF2 game play.
I like that you can interact with the maps more (I find all sorts of cool hiding places that in BF3 you would just get knocked off due to invisible walls) you find yourself using more things as cover because you are able to lean and peak around them.

I do not like viability going to crap on this map after the building goes down, though we all know that's actually what happens in the real world.
I don't like how the controls feel a little awkward (but same thing happened when Valve gave us CS:S, hoping DICE will tweak things as more time passes).

After a day of play, that's how I feel about the game. I think that DICE did a good job at the game and look forward to things getting more polished.

Side note: Has anyone else discovered if you use your tank to ram the crap out of another person's tank head on you will lifte their tank over yours? It's been useful for me, since most of the time the guy gets confused as heck and it gives me a chance to place a few more rounds on him; or, one of my team member can c4 him while he can't shoot.
