I was very skeptical of BF4 considering I wrote it off as being BF 3.5. I didn't really like BF3 as much as some people but I have to say, BF4 "feels" like they brought back whatever it was about what I liked about BF2 so much.

I only played 1 match last night but I actually felt like "Damn, I may actually need to buy this game after all." after I played it.

I've been jumping back and forth between BF3 and BF4 (when I get tired of the map).

One thing I really like about BF4 is the clarity and (lack) of desaturation and color grading. Colors are vivid and rendering is very sharp, with very little bloom and fog.

I honestly wish the skyscraper couldn't be brought down. I don't think it really brings anything to the table, other than covering all of that beautiful scenery with dust.

The more I play it, the more I think I prefer the movement mechanics compared to BF3. Strafing and overall movement feels a bit snappier and more precise now, whereas in BF3 you get a bit of that mushy feeling when you start trying to strafe. It's not more realistic or anything, but I think it's more fun.

The only area I think BF4 seems to have gone backwards is the audio. The weapons in BF3 have far more character and audible impact. It would have saved them a lot of time if they would have just reused the same files....I wouldn't mind -- they already put a ton of effort into getting them right so they might as well reuse it.

If anything, BF4 feels more like a "PC game" than BF3 does (I think largely due to less annoying post-processing, larger FoV, and more precise controls). I'm excited to get to some more maps.

You might as well install Classic Shell, stick to desktop mode and stay with 8... I'm not crazy about it either, but it's here to stay unfortunately.

Well i figured as much but i should have stayed with windows 8,did a 100% replica install on a fresh install of windows 7 and the same relentless stutter, all updates like on 8 as well.

The only conclusion as to why your having a lag free experience is the ht on your quad core,i keep hearing ht enabled i7s and the 8 core amd chips get a good boost over i5 and amd 4 and 6 core chips as my cpu usage is lower on windows 8.......and much more playable like 55+ majority of the time while on 7 i keep hitting low 30s and average 40s that feel like 20s....

That or this game picks people like a lottery where someone can have nothing but issues on windows 7 but have a good time on 8.....lost for words lol.

Played some more last night and experienced the low gpu usage I've seen others talk about (30-50%), went to another server and it was fine. Dropped to a 32 man and it got a lot smoother. I ran the dxsetup and noticed zero difference, if anything it felt like frames went down but that's probably in my head.

Scar is a beast after you get used to it. I'm a few points away from the carbine unlock -- looking forward to seeing how those run. The stinger almost seems unfair to choppas -- but I don't feel bad for you guys after the rape you were able to inflict in BF3.

Add me on Origin if any of you are looking for squad mates -- Worthington and I could always use more meat shields...

Think i will be as bold as to say the whole remark about windows 8 having better cpu optimization wasn't marketing bs....every time i find a guy claiming a excellent experience on windows 7 in BF4,its cause they either have a fx8350 or a i7 chip....the ones stuttering keep posting they have amd quad cores and i5 chips.....

The few i5 owners which don't appear to be many it seems to be having a stutter free experience on 7 most likely have highly overclocked chips......

Hey in my defense I charged you with a pistol the second time!

I noticed you had one of the best K/D's on the server, so of course I rub it in if I kill you =)

I put the game on Ultra with 4Xaa just to see what happened, and all I know is the game looks very detailed and nice. It ran better than I expected, but yeah its impressive looking so far. Will play a little more tonight.

Should play around with the resolution scale option in the video tab,at 200% it looks even better but tanks my gtx770 at a low resolution of 1366x768 lol..100% is the sweet spot but put it to 25% and it looks dreadful, worst then mario brothers ha with all this pixelation.

Its a struggle. My spm and skill ratings are way below bf3 so far. I'm having trouble adjusting to shooting

I do have the highest kdr and spm out of the 10 people playing in m y town which makes me feel good since the other top ones are all dorms so beating up kids 10+ yrs younger than me

i agree on the audio, not only is the total volume level a lot lower IMO but the weps lack the punch the ones in BF3 had

Yah the audio seems off, maybe its just missing till release.
They better not pull the "You need AMD new True Audio to get better sound" crap. That is total BS marketing if they do that. lol

Thought I'd jump in on this thread but first, thanks Gully for putting this info together!

I've got a 3570k@4.4 paired with a 670 and I'm curious about what CPU utilization others are seeing.

As soon as the game starts to load I am seeing 90%+ CPU on all cores and it stays that way once I spawn. Of course it's a stuttery mess and I certainly understand it's a beta and all but I'd still like to see what utilization others are seeing.

I stated earlier that I hit 100+ frames with an overclocked i5, but it is far from being stutter free on windows 7. Unfortunately I dont have a windows 8 machine to test on.

I do very well on the smaller domination map with frames averaging in the 80s. But on 64 player conquest they spike and dip all over, anywhere from 185 to low 20s. It really goes nuts after the building collapse. Hopefully this will be fixed before launch and I wont have to upgrade my cpu.

Depends on the os,i find 88-96% typical on windows 7 and on windows 8 i find 83-91% with the couple spikes to about 93%.

Windows 8 with the same exact 331.40 drivers, fraps, msi ab,the latest dx installed and the game i get sometimes up to about 90...on windows 7 i have a hard time even hitting 70 with many dips into the 30s and 40s while on 8 i did not find that at all.

The stutter and erratic framerates i am getting is even on empty servers, both conquest and domination as well as on 32 and 64 player loaded,it doesn't seem to matter honestly which server.

About 5 minutes away from a official second install of BF4 on a second fresh install of windows 8 with the same drivers as i had last night on windows 7 with the stutter, will give a report if i get the same experience or better.

On my 4670K, paired with my 670, CPU utilization was very high. Running on High settings/1080p, it's at 100%, and the GPU usage drops to around 85%. On Ultra/1080p, CPU usage drops a bit, and GPU usage shoots to 99%.

It was not stuttery at all, however. A few things to try:

(1) update drivers
(2) try a new server
(3) avoid Ultra settings

I left out a few details...Windows 7/331.40 drivers with the game set to high@1920x1200.

I've tried the directx update as mentioned in this thread and am still seeing stuttering.

So how do you get into the beta if you purchased through gamefly? I'm not really seeing anything about the beta after i bought it on there.

Well its official, second install of windows 8 with 331.40 drivers, the latest version of dx and punkbuster from the installer folder along with fraps and msi ab and the stutter and the wild framedips yet again disappear.

Another observation is on windows 7 half the servers crash on load after a few mins, this time i noticed incredibly fast load times on 8 that went smooth.

Think the installer for BF4 is broken for some people and its missing files during installation on windows 7,i gave windows 8 which i hate honestly no advantage with my comparison just for the record.

All of my loading issuees were solved by manually updating punkbuster for BF4.

On a related note I saw my first cheater in the beta yesterday. A guy 1 hit killed me a couple of times so I got suspicious. Then I was on the skyscraper wreckage and saw a dot firing on the mini map facing away from me. So I started to sneak up to get a view on him, and as soon as I appeared at the corner I saw him facing away from me shooting and right as I went to click to fire at him he did a 180 and 1 hit killed me in a split second.

Naturally I called him on it and his response was, "The game has been out for a day do you really think there are cheats already."

It's been that way in every game I have ever played. Hacks are available the day of release.

Quick youtube search confirms lol.

I believe the only folks that have access to the beta are those that were BF3 Premium players and/or if you purchase the BF4 Deluxe Edition. I don't believe GameFly which is just selling the standard edition, qualifies.

The Battlefield 4™ Exclusive Beta FAQ

Q: Who can access the exclusive Battlefield 4™ Beta?
A: There are several ways to get into the exclusive Battlefield 4™ Beta: By pre-ordering the Battlefield 4™ Digital Deluxe Edition on Origin.com, by being a Battlefield 3: Premium member, and by being a registered owner of Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition.

fyi - Open Beta doesn't start til Oct 4th.

For what its worth, I didn't notice any performance issues at all really. A little FPS dip into the 40's (for no apparent reason) but other than that it was perfectly smooth and consistent. Its been so long I forgot how to monitor CPU usage while in game. Also, Precision X and MSI Afterburner don't show up on screen while in game, but looking at the graph shows usage around 90% for both cards and of course Vram is pegged.
