Curiosity got the best of me, decided last night to ditch windows 8 completely and reinstall windows 7 and will give beta another shot this time with 320.49 drivers just to see how it runs compared to windows 8 with 331.40
Will not be running windows 8 period any more even, I hate it with a passion for everything outside of BF4 beta and while 320.49 and windows 8 gave a good beta experience, I got nothing but bull with BF3 no matter what driver I used. Stutterfield 3 is a better name and if something misses with my baby its gotta go so adios windows 8 its been nice knowing you .:|
Will update on my overall experience with windows 7 and 320.49.
I just hope they work smoothly together and dont bog down the servers or cause other problems like PB is prone to do sometimes. It will be interesting to see stats when Fairpoint and punkbuster are running side-by-side. I wonder how Fairpoint is vs punkbuster..like do each have advantages over the next catching cheats.
Uh.,..sounds like a nvidia issue not win8

I thought you said you already did a clean install of win 7?
For those who did not hear DICE is going to release a beta patch soon for performance issues.
It's really too bad cause Open Beta is starting to become a bad thing now and I'm sorry to say it but it's the new generation of gamers. Way too entitled and think that everything should be perfect by Alpha release.Of course they are, which makes me wonder why everybody is going nuts. People talking about ditching their hardware and OS and everything else....has it not already been stated enough times that this is a beta and the current drivers supporting it are beta as well? I don't know why anyone would go out and buy a new OS before the developer has even had a chance to address the issues that are affecting their current one. We're only 5 days into this thing!
It's going to be patched and repatched, and nvidia and amd will both probably be releasing more drivers and more fixes.
It's like people were expecting some flawless, finished experience the first day this thing was made available.
Glad it worked for you, I just posted it in battlelog forums, hopefully it helps some people. This is pretty crazy but it worked! Many thanks!
I practically gave up on this beta after trying everything - updating punkbuster, uninstall/reinstall/change drivers, ran Dxsetup, changed every video setting I could think of, even reinstalled BF4. Gameplay was so frustrating (freezes every 10-20 seconds or so, fps down to single digits) that I just couldn't take it. As a last resort I tried your suggestion and changed my "number of cores" to "4" (it was previously unchecked) in msconfig. I have to admit that I really didn't expect anything, but it totally solved the problem! The game's now super smooth with absolutely no stutter/freezes. I had my best games tonight and actually had a lot of fun.
Someone else that has these symptoms should give this a try. Go to msconfig>boot>advanced options. Under "number of processors", I changed mine to "4". If a number is already selected, uncheck the box (this worked for uclalabrat). Let us know how this worked. Credit to uclalabrat.
I'm loving the game but the whole battlepack thing is really, really souring me on it. Pay for the game, pay for premium and then pay for micro-transaction battlepacks if you get sick of RNG not favouring you with the unlocks you want...
Seems completely ridiculous and out-of-order for a game that is not free to play and micro-transaction supported. We're already paying for the fucking game and most likely the second game that is packaged as DLC. Then they throw battlepacks on top of that ? Never mind that part of the enjoyment of the game was unlocking that gun you wanted and then using it to progressively unlock its attachments. Now it's RNG based in these Battlepacks ? Give me a break, that is not for our enjoyment, it's to get us paying even more money.
This is really pushing it imo.
You could be right about possibly it being NVidia but personally 3 sets of drivers and the same experience is to much you know and two of those sets have ran on 7 perfectly fine for me.
Will update this post in about 10 mins, the beta just finished downloading and I will give 320.49 a run.
For you guys with good rigs having choppiness or performance problems - try setting everything to ultra except effects quality to low. Does that improve things for you?
Its nvidias job to make their drivers work dude, not ms.
If you feel otherwise go buy a Mac
RNG?
