At this point, there is no way I am buying this game.
Yeah, I get it, it's a beta. But as is typical of EA/Dice, every patch screws up something else. Except for the gpu/cpu swings, I was relatively stable when the beta first launched. Ever since the first patch, I'm lucky to get through one match without a lock up. My system is rock solid with all other games and software and I'm using precision x to limit fps to 60. And yet.
Tonight was the first time I got through not only one but two matches with no problems. Until match number three which resulted in a lock up. Had to cntrl/alt/del task manager, close bf4, system is fine.
WTF EA? This should not be happening this far into a beta. And looking at their forums, I am not alone.

Totally the opposite for me. The game is now stable and runs like a champ, I havent had a crash all weekend. Before the game would lock up about 30% of the time.



Ive been sniping with bolt actions on Domination and have mixed feelings about it. Now there's no weird suppression or random bullet deviation and bullets seem to go where they are supposed to. Motion balls are really nice for the running sniper. Toss one into the direction you are headed into and get a heads up on where enemies are. On the other hand they dont last very long at all, so if you are trying to hold an area (ie:camp :sneaky the TUGS was a much better option. My main gripe is the scope in time seems a little slow and that causes me many deaths, which I do not care for in the least.

However, Domination is a rather chaotic mess and I may like sniping better on other maps and game modes. I am certain I will like it better on HC with one hit kills that dont require a headshot.

I got maybe 2 or 3 crashes every 6 hours, but its not enough to put me off on the game. BTW, that QBS-09 is pretty bad ass, especially once I realized its was semi auto, and I didn't have to wait to pump it like the 870. The carbines being all class weapons now will make using other classes less cumbersome when ranking up. ACR + recon is a great combo. Hopefully they will have a couple of PDWs all class as well. Its too bad we didn't get to see another map in the beta, but I've seen enough to buy it on day one.

My only complaint is the unlocking of all the weapons and gadgets. I know its been in BF for awhile, but it gets more and more annoying with each release. I always tend to grind through the classes I don't necessarily want to play just to unlock the weapons and gadgets in case I need to situationaly use the class. It would actually pay another $10 just to have all the guns unlocked from the beginning. The best time I had with the beta was when I unlocked all the guns and gadgets for all the classes and just played to have fun. Why the hell should I have to play Support to unlock Shotguns, or Engineer for carbines...

Only happened to me after the first patch. Key bindings and settings stayed put for the 2nd and 3rd patch.

You just completely discouraged me from trying Win8 for BF4, lol. Even if I could get 20 more fps.

Anyone who has actually given it a real chance knows that it's functionally on par with Win7 and a step forward performance and feature wise. If I can teach my mom to properly use Win8 in 3 minutes, nobody on this forum should have an issue with it.

its not functionally on par with 7, i have it on my laptop, used it as is for nearly 6 months. its still crap and i finially installed Start8 to make it useable,

ill toss more money at better hardware before i go to win8 to fix any issues i may or may not have. but seeing as i can maintain 60+ FPS @1440p right now, im pretty much in the clear

I think skill is just based on how long you played, it just goes up, at least for me.

I've had zero issues with beta since it started, only crashed once but that was my fault recording video for it and it crashed.

The FPS I get is great. Less than BF3, but almost the same. That is on lonely GTX 580, win 7, 2600K @4.4ghz. I hover around 50-60fps, when building falls it will drop down to 30s 40s for a minute but come back up. I will prob get a new GFX next week or after depending on out the AMD one plays out out in reviews.

You are asking the wrong question, how is WIN 8 functionality better than WIN 7? Its not.
The whole argument against win 8 is not the UI, its it does not offer anything for someone to upgrade to worthwhile. If you buy a PC and its on it, fine, but if you have the choice most will choose win 7 by default. Most people think Win 8 should of just been a service pack t win 7.

The whole argument against win 8 is not the UI, its it does not offer anything for someone to upgrade to worthwhile. If you buy a PC and its on it, fine, but if you have the choice most will choose win 7 by default. Most people think Win 8 should of just been a service pack t win 7.

Like Udgnim, I mostly played Domination in the beta, which is why I think our skill is higher. You run into the same people over and over, so constantly going 1:1 or higher against high kd people increases your skill more than the occasional noob getting a lucky kill decreases it. I copuple of times I played against youtubers like xfactor and did fairly well. My KD is fairly average in the beta, 1.3 ish, was almost 2 then dropped when I switched from assault to unlock other classes stuff and I played a few hours of conquest. Frickin tanks. Anyways, thats the only thing I can think to explain it. My spm and skill stats are similar in BF3, and the last hundred hours or so I only played metro and/or infantry only.

Correct about the skill level. And the earlier you rank up the more likely the chance of you skill level dropping just because of the sheer amount of lower ranked people you will play and die against.

I may do that stat reset this time around. I didn't bother in BF3, and by the time I had everything unlocked it was a monumental effort just moving 3 tenths of a point. Plus, for awhile I was the number one SV98 player. I usually only look at the stats when I dont quite feel like playing but BF is on my mind, and since I mainly play solo with random people its like a game within the game. And I will admit...every time I see my KD I think back to my Quake and CS days and realize how far I have fallen, and a part of me can't let that go, but I guess the reflexes just aren't there any more. :'(

I was fooling around with spectator mode yesterday watching some people on my friends list. It is kind of interesting, but strange that you cannot follow individual people. When they die it automatically moves you to someone else. You also don't see their HUD, and it would be nice to see their health, ammo, etc. I dont think it effects your stats...I didn't get any battle reports after watching a bunch of matches.

Considering I see 6 snipers on each roof I'm not sure I care that it gets added. They made close quarter sniping viable and gave them C4 again. They are pretty powerful as is. There needs to be a better counter to this, imo.

The airburst is great for clearing roofs. Nothing more fun than seeing those rooftards clumped up and dropping a couple rounds right on them and watching them all just... die.
