Do you guys have to update punkbuster at all? I am on windows 8.1 and it crashes when loading in the map and I have done the repair and it found nothing. Any ideas?

Since I manually updated PB I have not had any load crashes. But Ive still had several crashes to desktop while playing.

It was PB for me too. I'm really not that impressed with BF4 so far. It plays well but it just seems like the game took a major backwards step with the destructable environments. Rockets just seem to evaporate against walls.

BF4 has been meh for me as far as beta goes,2 hours or so and i will be playing me some BF3 again when its done downloading.:biggrin:

BF4 will rock but damn i hate playing the same map over and over again you know,can't wait till the game is finally out.

I was afraid to hop in here due to nuthugging but thank god it's not like that haha. I am finding it lackluster as well. It's interesting sure, but the map just sucks. I dunno why, I just hate it. Too large and TOOO up and down. Sitting on a skyscraper looking down at ants and it just is meh I dunno.

I'm also just not used to PC controls or playing with people on PC lol used to Xbox 360 takes 5 seconds to aim and shoot at someone.

Guess I'll go back to beating Crysis 3 or something. Interested to see how steam controls would be better over the 360 controller in this game.

Anyone having a problem where the game locks up your system? It's happened to me 3 times now. Once was at the load screen. Once at the end of the match. And once, after the match had ended, I hit esc and quit. All three times, my system became unresponsive and I had to do a hard shut down.
If it matters, this is on W7 pro running a gtx670 with the beta driver.

guess it is time for a computer upgrade...holy hell does this game bring my computer to it's knees on the low settings...100% ram and 100% CPU

I was playing recon just to sit and mouth breath for abit...can you set the scope to just be zoomed in all the time vs. having to hold the right mouse button?

What I saw was nice so far, except the slide show effect

So i really dont now what is this resolution scale.Can any one tell me what should be my resolution scale normal or standard.My resolution is 2560 by 1440

I assume we'll get much high resolution textures when this is released. The ones they're using now I would guess are for medium quality(?)

If this map were combined with HQ textures it would look insanely good. Even the weapon textures are very low quality at this point.

I'm stoked to see what the final game is going to look like.

Not too keen on the improved killcam (and it's gonna be hell getting servers to customize that off), or the regenerative ammo for vehicles but somehow this feels a little better than BF3.

However, I haven't seen any jeeps on this beta map, but I would kind of like to see the top machine gun of jeeps do actual damage to choppers like they did in BF2.

My 7950 can play the game, my Phenom X4 @ 3.6 can't....... actually its quite playable but not smooth. My GPU usage never made it past 80% during gameplay and hovered in the 60-70% range most of the time with everything set to Ultra on 1080p

Ya, I just think the skyscraper is literally only there just to have that cool "WOW ITS FALLING!!!!" during E3. Otherwise, I don't even think this level would have been made. I don't like the tons of sniper spots on top of buildings that are in the level. I like hills/valleys and all, but this is just annoying me. I'll have to play extendedly on a Mouse/Keyboard though. And learn the freaking controls/get a headset. Trying to use a xbox controller is just lulzy.

Sometimes though. with these 64 player maps. I feel it's hard to get the right balance of size of map to player ratio. It's a LOT better than on xbox 360 though. Jesus, some of you guys have no clue how empty those maps feel...

It's been butter smooth on my 4770k with my 7950. I dunno what my presets are though.

Which basically means install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 x64. I actually had 3 versions of this, but none was x64, so I uninstalled them all and just installed the SP1 x64 version, and now the game launches.

And now that its running I dont feel like playing. Debugging Windows kills the mood.

I updated the AMD drivers to the beta drivers and my performance was terrible. I was getting gnarly hiccups and freezes, going from 30-40 frames to the teens and single digits. I noticed today on CPU-z my cpu was only registering 2 cores instead of 4? WTF? So, went into msconfig and unchecked the cores box, now it runs like butter. I was even able to bump up the settings and still get 45-60 frames.

This is pretty crazy but it worked! Many thanks!

I practically gave up on this beta after trying everything - updating punkbuster, uninstall/reinstall/change drivers, ran Dxsetup, changed every video setting I could think of, even reinstalled BF4. Gameplay was so frustrating (freezes every 10-20 seconds or so, fps down to single digits) that I just couldn't take it. As a last resort I tried your suggestion and changed my "number of cores" to "4" (it was previously unchecked) in msconfig. I have to admit that I really didn't expect anything, but it totally solved the problem! The game's now super smooth with absolutely no stutter/freezes. I had my best games tonight and actually had a lot of fun.

Someone else that has these symptoms should give this a try. Go to msconfig>boot>advanced options. Under "number of processors", I changed mine to "4". If a number is already selected, uncheck the box (this worked for uclalabrat). Let us know how this worked. Credit to uclalabrat.

I don't understand why this would work. You have 4 cores in 1 processor, not 4 processors.

So I got one game in. Spent most of the round trying to get the feel right, and still pulled a decent KD for not playing a shooter in 6 months. I set the game to borderless, and it made the window 720p, so I could barely see anyone. hehe..turned colorblind mode on, and didnt know green meant enemy. I thought my squad mate was TKing everyone. Its pretty fun...forgot how much I liked playing BF. Just got to get the feel right. 60fps doesnt quite feel smooth. Frame rate seemed consistently 60, but I dunno. And that lean left/right when near cover will take some getting used to. Took me a bit to realize ADS was causing it.

It is a game issue,when the final product is released its gonna run hell of a lot better,i was dipping into the low 30s,often hitting the 40s and lucky if i hit 70 and this is with the rig in my sig at 1366x768 ultra no msaa.

Took a freaking install of windows 8.1 preview and going back a driver version before i got like low 40s minimum and hit like 125 or so as a high lol.The biggest pain in the ass beta ever and the most hassle just to get working right.

The best adventure so far in the 7 years of gaming for me still has to be Bioshock 1 on windows 7,that is the only game ever that has frustrated me trying to get to work before i said fudge it but this BF4 beta came into a close second place.:|

Settings don't change when untill you restart game I found out. Also when you restart game, some settings reset back. so you basicly have to double check before you play a match.

FYI people the graphics are non hd textures yet, they are default medium for testing.

About the skyscraper...it does have a purpose, the weapons that drop on the bottom in rubble after the collapse are SO op. They are one trick ponies but whoever gets those will take the center point first. Its one shot one kill grenade launcher.

I find the game very balanced (minus some weapons but nothing game changing), the map is the perfect size for 64 players. Yah i will proble like non-city maps more.

FYI i get 50+fps now on GTX 580,win7 now. The only time it drops down to low 30s is when i'm looking at building collapse.

Curiosity got the best of me, decided last night to ditch windows 8 completely and reinstall windows 7 and will give beta another shot this time with 320.49 drivers just to see how it runs compared to windows 8 with 331.40

Will not be running windows 8 period any more even, I hate it with a passion for everything outside of BF4 beta and while 320.49 and windows 8 gave a good beta experience, I got nothing but bull with BF3 no matter what driver I used. Stutterfield 3 is a better name and if something misses with my baby its gotta go so adios windows 8 its been nice knowing you .:|

Will update on my overall experience with windows 7 and 320.49.
