just played a game where commander placed HVT (high value target) on me, that was pretty cool. I was on a kill streak in a tank and he finally got me with a cruise missle. But damnit the game hard froze w a blank white screen if I tab out to windows, probably lost all my progress.

Had all sorts of crashing / connection issues after the 677mb patch earlier today

I'm finding regular server crashes keeping me from enjoying a long streak of play.

But overall, I am enjoying at least as much as BF3, probably more.

Running surprisingly well so far. Game freezes sometimes and sound cuts out and stuff, but that should get fixed. Looks like I might be alright with two 670's. I haven't tried all maps yet so the jury is still out. I'll get by though.

Same here. Game freezes after an hour of gameplay & sound cuts out and comes back in, but eventually most sound cuts out completely! Hope they're aware of this!! I also have gtx 670 SLI

Anyone with GTX670/680/770SLI feel that the VRAM is insufficient?

In its Beta preview, Tom's thought the 690 was running out of VRAM at Ultra settings:

1080p: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-4-graphics-card-performance,3634-8.html
1440p: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-4-graphics-card-performance,3634-9.html

Maybe that was just an early driver issue.

in my testing (using GPU-z) i found it uses on average 1800-1900mb with 2xMSAA, although it did spike to 2017mb once, but that's rare. (Skyrim with mods takes all 2048mb of RAM regularly). However, FPS drops to 45-55fps. With no MSAA it runs smooth as a baby's bum @ 60fps. I'm running in 1440p, and that's with everything @ ultra in 64player servers. I'm sure future patches and game optimizations by DICE will make it even more efficient in SLI.

How different is this game VS the previous Battlefields? I haven't played since BF2 and that was lack luster to me.
This game is certainly a faster pace than BF2 (especially depending on which maps you play) although some maps in BF2 (like palace on warlord) had some pretty high intensity areas, but the vehicle play and game modes are fairly similar, although BF4 adds a lot more to it in terms of variety. The gameplay is also quite a bit deeper with the newer maps and increased interactivity I think.

680 SLI @ 1200p with not even a hit of vram bottlenecking. I'm regularly in the triple digit fps range @ Ultra. I'm thinking of bumping up my resolution scaling to maybe 150% even and seeing what kind of performance hit it causes. MSI AB shows i'm using most of my VRAM, but I'm pretty sure that this game uses VRAM like windows uses RAM where it will cache as much as it can

^ Thanks, 2is. I hope you're right about the VRAM allocation - I've seen people mention that their 7970s use 2.3GB at the same setting, so either the game doesn't really need all of that VRAM, or potentially it's cutting the settings from Ultra to High. I believe BF3 did that on 1GB cards.

Sounds awesome. Did you try 4xMSAA at 1440p? Just curious if you could feel any hitching. I tried it on my HD7870, and had some odd slowdowns as I'd exit the options window, as if it was loading data. Then it would smooth out (though was admittedly way too slow to play). Going to try my single 670 tonight, and of course SLI is very tempting...

quite a few of the maps give me the BF2 Spec ops feeling which i loved. so far the maps seem much better then BF3 to me ( only played 5 of them).

Haven't had time to mess with it, and for some reason EVGA precision doesn't show up on the screen. I'll have to try MSI AB I think. No signs of ram issues, whatever those signs may be. In BF3 I had issues with 570's but nothing like that has happened yet. Don't worry though, if I have any issues i'll come here to complain.
EDIT: It doesn't matter anyway since I won't be upgrading to the same GPU cycle. I hate doing that. I'll live with however it performs.

So I've been reading that the PS4 version is limited to 900p.

So much for 8GB GDDR5+HUMA+"Code to Metal" being an i7+Titan killer...

i hate when i accidentally close out a tab after 90% of a reply is made, sigh

So here are the cliffs:
I use this this app.
You can read about it on the CPU Anandtech thread here.

Best to see the options in the control panel via opening the registry and making the options visible. Read here.

Win 8 does a better job with core parking.

Thanks, I'll try that tonight! Did you do the reg edit method or did you use the app?

Thanks. Sounds good.

BTW, neither Precision nor AB's onscreen monitor will work in BF4 because it's 64-bit. I was using FRAPS yesterday to get some data, and that worked fine both onscreen and in the background.

Oh some did lol. I don't remember if it was this forum though.

I believe someone from EA said a long time ago that next gen consoles were more advanced than any PC money could buy. Then a month later a DICE guy came out and said they compare to a low-mid range PC.

Too many people said things like this....
These systems don't even outperform an HD 7950.

I know but really, with what they have to work with I think BF4 looks fine on the PS4 and XB1. I really do. Now I will always prefer PC, not just for the 1440p resolution or anything like that. Simply because of options. I can choose between high fps and some minor detail reduction or full blast ultra and maybe below 60fps at times. I am not stuck with whatever the developer thought was the best option.

Well, it's common for launch titles not to bring out the full potential

Just look back at the 360's release games, many of them were still better on a good PC. And there's a big difference between today's 360 games and the games that were impressive back then

Likely they pre-loaded which means they downloaded the game files before the official release. Once midnight hits on launch day the game activates and is available to play.
