install fraps on there and benchmark it, you will get a couple files - min/max/avg and I can't remember the other one but good info so you know for sure what you are getting. Just setup fraps so you don't interfere w/ your gaming keys

i see, i'll do so this weekend, when i'm not neck deep in semester projects!

i'm saying that the lag appears somewhere, and methods to combat it (read: predict) often have the effect of doubling it in the worst cases, i recommend the source engineer article i linked

Look at this example I recorded:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Ome3-UEq0

Not only does just 1 of my 3 point blank shotgun shots register, and somehow for only 40 instead of 100+, but the guy never actually shoots where I was. Wide left, then at the freaking floor. In fact, he isnt even firing when I die. The game just goes batshit every now and then. In slow mo I can maybe understand it a bit, but not in real time.

I was going to post another one where I unload 50 bullets from an LMG maybe 3m away while a guy is trying to knife a squad mate, and he simply doesn't die until he gets out of the animation and gets some shots off at me and I have to shoot him some more. But I've died from other people while knifing someone. I think the biggest annoyance is the inconsistency. I dont remember gunplay being this bad prior to BF3, unless your ping was really really high, and it mattered more in games like Quake and CS. Maybe it was and I dont remember.

BF4 kinda seems better than BF3, but the last thing you want in competitive shooters is to feel like you got robbed. And I also played all the CODs except this last one, and I dont really remember feeling robbed in those games. I think most people honestly know when their shot was off, but the last couple of BFs seem to have a lot of WTF moments. Not enough to make it unplayable, but its definitely annoying at times.

ARGH...

I played campaign mode for first time yesterday and I almost want to quit BF4 now. I was running around headshotting AI enemies left and right like a superhero. It was just ridiculous how quickly I put the AI enemies down compared to multiplayer.

Then I play multiplayer and I'm emptying clips into people's heads and even seeing hit markers but the opponent doesn't die. So I guess that means the hit markers dont mean shit huh? It seems to be that your client interprets hit markers but once the data is sent to the server the server's interpretation can and often will end up with a completely different interpretation.

So it's not me, it's not my system performance, it's not lag, it's just the game itself.

Do all modern FPS games suffer the same fate? Why is it written like this was it supposed to make it harder to hack?

Too bad it doesn't do shit for hacking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkamXnfUv7s (yeah open beta version but still I am sure this same capability is being used right now all over)

Aimbot this guy is using is more current: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGIScpmeuag

Here's a question: Why are aimbots not susceptible to the same netcode bullshit that real aiming has?

have you tried messing with the Network Smoothing factor in the config? I'm at around 30% and it's better for me.

Mine is at 0% for several weeks now. I will try raising it up to see if it helps - thanks for the suggestion

I don't recall having obvious issues with hit detection, although I may have not noticed it amongst my close quarters sucking. Last night I could have absolutely sworn that someone shot me clean through a wall, and not like just after turning a corner. This was like, I'm way behind this wall, just standing here, then I drop. Then the little red colored guy on the kill cam shows up straight through a nice big, solid wall.

SO is china rising active yet?

this image is cancer

There isn't a game on earth that can emulate what that "good netcode" supposedly looks like. Unless you have a magic internet device with 0 latency. Not to mention the point of view of the shooter is ignored.

Here's a simplified description.

What client side(colloquially) hit detection actually does is ensure when you shoot at something you can see you will get hits. This can result in you (the target) getting hit after it appears you've taken cover. (read about lag compensation in the article below for more on why this must be the case) (and on a side note, the hit detection is almost certainly done on server side, but it's called "client side" because of the way this method takes latency into account)

However, the alternative isn't rosy either. Server side(colloquially) hit detection means that often you'll shoot at something you can see and your bullets will pass right through targets. Their position just wasn't updated on your client, they had already taken cover. (read about input prediction in the article below for more on how this can get really bad really fast)

Latency has to appear somewhere, and it ends up making either the shooter or the target angry. Most games try to strike a balance. In reality, Battlefield 4 isn't strictly one or the other, and likely uses a system that balances latency between shooters and targets - just like almost every other FPS ever made.

If you think you're doing poorly in multiplayer because of "netcode", I'm sorry but you're full of it. Unless you are xxxgamer420elitesniperxxxyourmomheadshot_dubstepxxx pro FPS player your performance isn't going to be impacted. Plenty of people can absolutely dominate servers despite the supposed "shitty netcode". Every player has to deal with it.

Focus on your game, not on netcode. It's not holding you back.

For those players out there who are interested in more detailed netcode information, heres a good place to start:

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_Multiplayer_Networking

the source engine's netcode has been absolutely picked apart and you can find quite a good bit of information scattered across the internet on the tradeoffs valve makes for its CS games.

Thanks for that info. Very interesting.

Despite the haters and the complainers, I think BF4 is a great shooter. Today I played over 3 hours (extra XP ends soon, the wife was out, and I got my 'chores' done early).... I only got kicked to the desktop once. What an improvement from @ 2 weeks ago.

yea my speeds froim Origin are unmatched, honestly im pretty sure i download faster than line max from it

ans yes Paracel storm sounds amazing on a big system, i used to have a Xonar card but just run optical out of the mobo now and let the AVR do whatever decoding i want it to

That's because the number they report on the progress bar is just made up.

If your router has any sort of bandwidth monitoring chart take a look at it...

My router was showing about 15-17mbps while Origin was showing 24mbps+(3MB/s in the GUI)

I wouldn't be surprised if the total size reported of the download is larger than it really is, maybe the size of it before compression or something.

Still having the sound loop crash. The patch appears to fix most of the sound issues. You also may be pleased to hear that the HMG ammo box US tank bug is still going strong.

It is probably calculating the unpacking speed as well. If you install the game off of a disc you will also see the read speed of the drive when it is doing the install. Sane with verifying the integrity of the game files.

Finally unlock everything for the stealth . I really like the F35 while using 3rd person mode vs other jets.

Crashing even more frequent than before the patch. Was just in the game with DeathDealer (forgot AT name), we were in a tank on Dawnbreaker, clearing out C and... crashed again. Crashed 3 times in 5 rounds...

That would be me.

Man, that sucks. I didnt know whether you crashed or just quit, our team was doing rather poorly at the time. LOL

It ended up being an awesome game after being down the entire round we came back to win it with only 24 tickets left. http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/408043228603555456/305137962/

Very nice! I know we were losing by 150 tickets at one point. I saw you join the game almost immediately after me and I was watching you, you started making a a difference right away. Glad you posted that report, it got me thinking and I started looking at reports. I find up to 40 players on my team in some reports with the same grayed out status like me. meaning that on 64 player servers, up to 8 guys crashed in the game since obviously, 33 is the max number of people on the team.

I just crashed 3 times in a row. My quit rate is 38% and I very rarely leave games, and I haven't even quit a single match since they fixed the scoreboard. Of those 38%, less than 1% is me leaving games, the rest is all sound loop crashes.

I'm gonna post the same report, curious if I show up in it, me and 3 other guys, the wildcard and xander were doing well, no reason to leave so they too presumably crashed: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/408043228603555456/226657518/

For NVIDIA people, try uninstalling the video card audio drivers. It helped a friend of mine, doesn't fix all the issues, but most of them.

To clarify, all sound cards have DACs, but generally stand-alone DACs of equivalent price will be of much higher quality.

That being said a good sound card will also provide quality DACs, so it depends on what functionality you are looking for.

I'm currently using the G330 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104319

I'm primarily looking for better positional sound, I assume the G430 will be a good upgrade with 7.1 sound, even if it's simulated? My mobo's got a built in Realtek chip

On a side note, I just got an Asus Xonar D1 soundcard and got it to output Dolby Digital. Man, does it make a difference. I used to play with Dolby Prologic IIx but with DD, sorry for the cliche but its like you ARE there. On Paracel Storm, I actually started hearing distinct raindrops when it started and when the thunder started up, I though it was a storm outside. Really neat!
FYI, I am using an old Sony HTiB with passive sub to power 5 Klipsch satellites spkrs from a busted Promedia. Also have a Denon 3802 laying around but the Klipsch are 4 ohm and the Sony old fit the bill.

Hm. I have a Xonar Essence and I've had it on the HiFi setting for years from a thread from a thread on Head-Fi.org. Should I be using the Dolby ProLogic IIx/Dolby Virtual Speaker/7.1 Virtual setting?

Am I the only one unable to play China Rising? I have premium and battlelog throws an error about not having China Rising on some servers. If it successfully launches the game, it crashes before the map screen comes up. 100% of the time. Checked for updates and did repair installs on both BF4 and premium. Normal maps load fine.

Ugh...

Oh god, if they didn't fix this from BF3 in BF4, I'll never be buying the game. That was one of my biggest complains...dumping a ton of shots on a guy from close range from a LMG and the bullet deviation in BF3 making the bullets go everywhere but where I'm aiming. BF4 is a no no unless DICE fixed that...

I dont know what was:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Aa6VOOrHk

Apparently, it took a headshot to kill this guy.

And I'm kinda on the fence with these new maps. Dragon Pass looks nice, but they are all so vehicle centric I dont think I'll play them, except for maybe Domination.

Had an epic round tonight. I stacked a 100% XP boost on top of the double XP. Played Support on the new China Rising map in the forest with the caves.

161000 pts.

PS: the caves are awesome for claymores.
