Talk about confusing.. what about us Steam users that for sure wouldn't have received anything in a box? We did receive two codes, was the second code the VIP code or just the LE code?

I didn't order through Steam, but I know they sold the LE, so I'm guessing that's the second code you got.

A couple of comments and questions

I got into the game yesterday and have been impressed with the game play. Coming from BF2 it is a nice change.

I am still figuring out the objectives and the maps, but it is good all the way around

The server search is DOG ASS slow...and for what ever reason I cannot add favorites...it just spins its wheels 'retrieving information' forever.

The scoreboard text on my screen is messed up, the headings are over-lapped, not sure if that is common or not.

Overall lock progression doesn't work for me, inbetween rounds. It appears to be grayed out and no images show up on the right side, the slider moves each round to show the progression but not like it did during the beta.

I haven't experienced any disconnects yet or game crashes (crosses fingers)

I just upgraded to a quad which appears to help alot from the beta...my aging 8800GTS 640 mb plays at 1920x1080 on LOW settings around 50-70 fps...it is unplayable on MEDIUM (can't wait for my delivery of my 5850)!

I find it hard to stick together as a team so far, with no voice working (at least in the few games I was in) and a hard time remembering on the fly who is in my squad during the game it can suck running solo most of the time.

Is there a way to display the mini map like in BF2 where it is always up? vs having to hit the map button all the time?

here is a workaround

find a server you want to add to favorites through the main browser, then "Search" for that server's name

once you reduce the server list through the "Search" function, find the server you wanted to favorite, and you should be able to favorite the server

for whatever reason, I haven't been able to favorite through the main browser listing, but once I condense it through "Search," the "Favorite Server" command works. unfortunately, I'm limited to a max of 6 favorite servers. anything more than that shows up in the "Favorite Server" tab, but is not selectable

there are a lot of major and minor bugs in BC2. also, I'm not sure what you mean in your comments about the mini map. it is always up if you're playing "Normal," and it is not part of the UI if you are playing "Hardcore"

regarding teamplay, green triangles = members of your squad. blue triangles = your team. you can look at the mini map to see if people are pushing forward or attacking/defending objectives as long as you are somewhat near the front lines. always try to be part of a squad and spawn on squad mates intelligently. as you become more familiar with the maps, you should have an idea of what people are trying to do. obviously, communicating via voice is still better, but experience will still help without the aid of voice communiciation.

Cool Thanks for the tip, I had favorited the ATOT server and that was by searching for the server first and then adding it (which worked)

I totally forgot about the hardcore setting which explains that question...I believe I was on a hardcore server for most of the night which explains why the mini map wasn't showing.

It would be nice to have an additional column on the server search based on if it is a normal server vs. Hardcore.

Not that I plan on adding a ton of servers, but does anyone know if the number will be increased from 6?

Despite what Mr. Childs says, I'm standing by my assertion that PC users don't need a VIP code. They will automatically download and apply the free DLC when it is released.

hahaha, I'm just saying there was a VIP code in the Limited Edition of the PC version, just like on the PS3 version. I didnt check if it the guns, maps, and motion sensor where already unlocked prior to inputting the code. Maybe the next person who buys it can verify that before using the code. As for future DLC, I have no idea. Being PC I would expect it to be free, but who knows these days...I'm just glad the game is available and fairly PC like.

it's not the smoothest process but you can right click on a server and click "Server Info" to see if "Hardcore" is on

most hardcore servers have "hardcore" or "HC" in their name though

That right there (or, I should say, the lack thereof) was the single biggest turn-off in CoD4 for me, having played the heck out of BF2142 with different colors for teammates vs. squadmates. Having every teammate be the same color in CoD4 made it absolutely impossible to stick with the buddies I was on TS with. I was worried that the distinction wouldn't make it into BC2 but was overjoyed that it did!

I was looking for a group of people who would be using voice chat. It's kind of annoying that no one communicates in the game even though its important. Unless its a clan only server, you mind telling me what the TS server is? I've played a lot of BF2 and BF2142 and had the same issue there.

Desperate measures...Inactive Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Servers Being Disabled

At DICE's request, all GSPs will switch off all public and privately rented Battlefield: Bad Company 2 servers after eight hours of inactivity, in an effort to reduce load on EA's crash-happy master server:

Due to the continued issues with the EA master servers, DICE have requested we turn off servers which aren't actively being used by players.
As we want you guys to enjoy this excellent game with as little problems as possible, we are going to be turning off all servers which have had 0 players for over 8 hours.

Please note that this is a temporary measure, which we hope everyone will support; however we also appreciate that some of your may not want your servers turned off.

Just to confirm this will only effect servers if they haven't seen a single player for over 8 hours so there is no need to worry that your server will be turned off when its full.

This follows the shut down of public servers, accounting for around 40,000 player slots.

Counterstrike did it. CS2 did it. UT did it. UT2k3, UT2k4, SOF2, yadda yadda yadda.

Battlefield 2's browser was HORRENDOUS. In 3 days I put together a retail quality browser (albeit with a Windows interface and .NET back end) that was extremely fast, responsive, and had a very robust feature set with ample friends features, favorites features, etc.

It's not hard. Tapping into the functionality of qstat and/or glist is simply a matter of basic string parsing.

i figured out why i was getting the game not available error. It's because I set the game to run as admin in the compatibility tab. wtf???

took me forever to find a server with open slots. half the time it just spun it's wheel and then dropped me back to the browser. no reason why i couldn't join.

so when i did get in, i got totally raped. tried playing as assault and i could not hit anyone. i'd spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die. I did manage to kill one guy and i'm not sure how i didn't kill the 2nd. I knifed him twice, unloaded my pistol twice, and my rifle once and he never died. of course, not all shots hit, but there was enough that should have. pissed me off so bad i just quit playing. kept getting killed by the same dude too. some asshat medic with a m249.

I'm confused about health. so i get hit, my screen goes red and if i hide for a bit, it goes away. am i now fully healed or do I only have partial health? i see no health indicator in the game, but when people kill me, i can see they have 100% or 60% etc.

the ping lied to you and it was a whole lot higher than stated?

there is no health indicator other than screen flashing and going red. you're at partial health.

I ordered the Leaderboard by Skill Level (ELO doesn't show on the Leaderboard but it does order from highest to lowest ELO) and it produced some obvious bot users that were averaging 800+ points per minute. it also produced some obvious K/D whores that had <200 point per minute stats lol.

I think they are considering the basic CDKEY the VIP code, and the LE code an extra code, that is not the VIP code.

New Battlefield Blog post: EA Maintenance, now with extra added hardware

Tomorrow, 12th March, and Saturday, 13th March at 8:00GMT/9:00 CET:12:00 (midnight) PST, EA will take the servers down, this time we will come up with even more hardware with more capacity to handle all the BFBC2 traffic. Once the maintenance is complete you will experience an improvement to your online experience.

This will be extended maintenance to allow the new hardware to be installed and affect all three platforms (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360).

Since launch a week ago, BFBC2 has already put EA servers through the following stress:

* The 4 different soldier types have gathered a score of more than 34 Billion.
* There's been more than 400M kills made.
* 1.3M roadkills
* Squads and Teams have assisted each other to 6.2 Billion points.

Now we are adding more capacity to let you smash those numbers multiple times over in the weeks to come.

Looks like they finally took your advice...

lol I saw the number one player's stats. Pretty ridiculous. 2,000,000+ points and lvl 38~ and ~100 hours of gameplay.

Sigh, if I run it as administrator I can see the server ping but then I lose the ability to knife as I have it bound to a mouse button. No idea why it does this, did it in the beta to. Oh well, seems the servers I've picked are luckily with good pings to me so I won't worry about it.
