That's a nice piece of work. Not sure I'll really be tweaking my settings all that often, but it's nice nonetheless. Might try it out to see if it fixes in-game VOIP!

Speaking of which, anyone know where you can see the server VOIP setting, in the browser, or the scoreboard, or ??? It'd be nice to know whether I'm not hearing anyone because it's broken or because it's turned off on that particular server.

Have you actually killed the pilot in BC2? I used to do it all the time in BF2, but I havent done it yet in BC2, and I try anytime I have the M95.

Can do it with the m24 if you get lucky. Can get them out of the apache as well, although thats harder.

ARRRRRRRRGGG!! I just DLd the latest patch and now it wont run...I was gonna start my single player campaign but at the first screen I got a pop-up saying the game wont play unless you install the latest patch so I did

Well, now I can get a s far as the select screen for single player but as soon AS I select "Play" it punches back out to the desk top. Anyone else experiencing this?

I get a crash to desktop after clicking "Resume Game". I started a new campaign and it seemed to be going fine, but I didn't sit there through all the credits. I'm guessing, as so often happens when a game is patched, that old save games are no longer compatible.

Just took a look. I see nothing. I looked at the manual for the admin interface, and I don't see anything VOIP configurable by the server admins, either.
If there is anything, it must be configured by the GSP.

well i've played it enough to get to rank 2. i'm on the fence with this game. i'm in the middel of an uprade so hopefully going from 2gb to 4gb and a 9600gt to a gtx 260 will help.

my pet peeves:

you can't talk when dead.
the melee system is horrid.
player movement is iffy. not a big fan of MW2 but the player movement is much more fluid.
you can't hit enter while waiting to spawn like the old BF series... do i really have to hit the 'ready' button every time?

there are a few more issues but i'm going to give the game time. i need to figure out the quickest and easiest ways to level up.

Actually, all you needed to do was restart the level from the menu, you didn't need to restart the campaign. Has something to do with changes in the graphics engine. I restarted a level last night and it worked...I was glad I didn't have to go through the whole game again.

Another big issue is that if I want to quit the games after the last map, i have to wait until the new map loads completely before I can exit it.

One thing I was wondering, some times it seems that recon people parachute "behind" enemy lines. Am I just seeing them jumping from buildings and parachuting, or is there a perk that allows this?

Can do it with the m24 if you get lucky. Can get them out of the apache as well, although thats harder.

I did kill a pilot once hovering in the blackhawk with an m95, was stoked as the chopper fell to the ground and my side took it over lol.

I did it once with the first recon snipe ... I can't remember the name of it, but it was hilarous. I sniped him, and it spun out of control, crashed, and I got the kill for the other guy + vehicle damage.

yes, like someone else pointed out...I believe you can shoot through the windshield with about any weapon...I know I have been shot out of the pilots seat...just kind of luck I guess...leading the chopper enough.

I got at least 2 that I can remember of sniper shots on a chopper on the pilot...both were pretty elementary as they were hovering...but it is cool none the less watching the chopper crash and burn!

Unfortunately his videocard is a bit old and he does have a high resolution display (1920x1200). If he turns down the details (no AA and AF), will he get an average of 30 FPS or more?

in the beta i ran a 4850 @ 1920x1200 w/ med setting at around mid or low 20s, maybe high teens...he can always drop it down to 1680x1050 though. i just got the dvd earlier yesterday, installed it, logged in, updated but will probably game this weekend. i would say he will have to drop down the res a bit.

Are you still using the 4850 now? I think the RTM version performs better than the beta. If you're getting 20ish FPS in medium setting, surely it'll perform even faster at low quality setting?

yep, still on a 4850, waiting for 5850 to come down a bit. i should have numbers by the end of the weekend, possibly tomorrow night but not sure what the weekend plan is. will post fraps numbers for a round if i remember. i am only running a old c2d - e2160 @ 3GHz

He's running an E2180 and a Geforce 9800GT. I think if you're getting a decent FPS, then it wouldn't be out of the question that he will get 30FPS out of his system.

I have the 4850 as well. I have not met a game yet that I could not run at 1680 x 1050 with HQ settings.

Before I upgraded last week, that's the card I was running and the resolution I was running at. I was actually able to get over 50fps when I manually switched over to DX9 in the systems.ini file. In the default DX10, I could only comfortably run at 1680x1050/medium settings. Frankly, there's no reason your brother can't just switch to that resolution on his 1920x1200 monitor. You don't have to run the game at native resolution for it to look good.

Also, don't forget that this game is highly dependent on the CPU. With his older E2180 dual core, he will likely drop below 30fps regardless of the video card: http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/battlefield_bad_company_2_tuning_guide,3.html♦. Low settings may save his rig, but they really don't look too good. Trust me, it won't make a difference if he's 1920x1200 or 1280x1024 when he's at low settings.
