I tried playing on a 16 player rush server today and i just got raped. i think i killed 2 guys and died like 20 times. i knifed a guy through a wall though. i started shooting at him inside a building and he went behind a plywood wall and I had to reload (i think he was reloading also) so i ran behind it on the other side. i could see his arm sticking through the wall so i thought, "wtf, i'm going to die anyway, i'll just see what happens" and it killed him.

The only way I can get kills is as a sniper (and this is usually only on HC servers), by killing a vehicle as engineer, or by accident with other classes. If i get into a 1 vs. 1 fight there's a 99% chance that I will be dying.

I still find that I die a lot and have no idea how. I'll spawn, run 5 feet and die.

Yeah, this is one thing I hate about shooters these days. If you dont get it release day you have a hard time getting up to speed, not because of skill, but because people who played it longer have better stuff. Its kind of counter intuitive...by design the more experience you have with the game it gets easier and easier. BY DESIGN, not due to skill. People who play longer will naturally be better due to repetition, but then its reinforced by rewarding them with better gear. In BC2, unless your are recon or medic, the basic equipment doesnt hold up to all the other weapons in the game. Problem with medic is you dont even get the med kit or defib for awhile.

Honestly, I started playing on day 1 and by the time I actually got to play, there were guys that were already finishing out one class. So I was getting killed by guys with M16s and UMPs. You have to start somewhere and there are players that flat out get stuff because they just play for so long. If you're a good player you'll advance, there is always something else you can do to support teammates.

has anyone had to kill someone with a knife by stabbing them twice? I had to knife someone TWICE (IN THE HEAD) to kill them. Fucking BS. Oh and they were standing still the WHOLE TIME I KNIFED THEM TWICE. >_< STUPIDGAME IS STUPID!

Also the bullet registering sucks with these servers. I constantly see this: Me shooting someone with a sniper rifle at near point blank with them moving... then I see this burst of red blood where I shot them... they kill me and they have 100% hp and never got hit apparently.

IT's BS! IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! >_<

This unlocking of items is kind of BS. I could understand if they did it like TF2, where the stuff you unlock isn't necessarily better than your starting stuff, just different. But in BC2 veterans of the game have FAR better gear than you do. It's hard enough starting a new FPS and going through the period of being a n00b, but artificially putting n00bs at even more of a disadvantage is bs.
100% agreed. Unlocks should be different, not better. CoD4 and TF2 got this right. Dice failed horribly.
Correct, it was Isla Inocentes, I spawn usually 15-20 seconds before most people...so it gives me time to run out there. It's unfair, but man does it get adreneline pumping when you see 6-7 EASY shots, and you have to wait for a darn reload! Send an arty, and get an easy multi kill ... it's fun as heck, haha.
Douche.

Tried messing with your FOV? Might help not to be so zoomed in, although gotta be careful not to overdo it.

I tend to get slightly better results playing HC, probably cause its easier to kill someone.

Thing is with this game most of the time you can't camp, and yet you can't just run in guns blazing. Just have to make careful slower advances.

Also, server matters. Some servers are just a lot harder than others.

The best piece of advice I've been given yet is to treat the game like a tactical shooter. Don't run out into the open unless you're moving to other cover (in which case, sprint, don't strafe/shoot). Always shoot from cover. Advance slowly and carefully. Try to out-think your opponents. Know when to retreat or regroup. Use your squad mates.

Yeah, for the first week of a game I am pissed off. What they need to do is give you good, competent weapons and equipment that you can compete with from beginning to end. I suppose one could make the argument that an weapon is good enough, but I hate grinding just to get to a point where I can play with everyone else competitively. I dug myself into a hole K/D ratio wise in part because of the imbalance. It wasn't till I got the M60, XM8 Proto, AN-94, AKS-74u and Saiga that I was able to really compete combat wise.

It was different for me. I played engineer initially and for me, using the SCAR was a good fit. Its still my best weapon I think... and I still use it sometimes instead of the UMP.

I honestly believe if you spend enough time with one weapon, you can figure out how to use it well.

Yeah, I don't really see too much of a problem with the way they do unlocks - progression is a staple in any game, multiplayer or otherwise. Not sure I really get the "should be different not better" thing either. A gun's a gun and it's gonna kill you if the guy gets the drop on you - pistol or M60, and that's especially true in HC. The better results you see gradually as you level up, statistically speaking, IMO, will be more due to you getting better, knowing the maps, knowing the little tricks and hiding spots, etc., not some "whole new tier of lethality" upgrade when you suddenly switch from the XMB to the AN-94, or get the red-dot sight, etc.* I mean sure, it might feel like it's working better, but it's not going to immediately jump your K/D from 0.5 to 3.0 or anything.

Granted, I say that as a Rank 4, but when a Rank 25 kills me, I don't immediately think, "Oh man, if I had his AN-94 I woulda got him!"; I think, "That guy's good and I'm not as good - hence the whoopin' he just visited on yours truly."

* with one exception - that Carl Gustav thing has GOT to go.

Its the weapons! AN-94 will tear you up in close range and long range. I chose my progression based on what I get owned by. And yeah, the weapons do make a difference. Also getting stuff like 4x scope and magnum ammo along the way make a big difference as well.

A good way to know is when you die, pay attention to the rank of the guy and what weapons they use. You will probably not see a 20+ rank guy with a starter weapon.

Lol, in a final act of desperation in a rush map the other day I took out the Gustav. I racked up a crap ton of points with that trying to defend the very last m-com on the jungle map. Went from the middle of my teams leader board to the top in a matter of minutes. Teams were stacked skill wise, so I didn't feel to badly about it.

I've knifed a guy through a concrete wall.

BC 2 knives are weapons of mass destruction imo

Alright, I jumped in, I bought the game today, I'll see what's this all about on PC. I tried it a few hours on the XBOX 360, but to be honest I was missing some BF2-flavored action since... well, a long time, under multi-player action I mean. Now I just need to wait for the download to finish (EADM) and I'll be good to go. I bet it'll take me a good month before getting used to get sniped from seemingly nowhere though (and that'd be the point from the sniper, too, I know, I'm just saying it will inevitably happen too often, just hope I'm not on your team).

Can someone else test this out for me. Anytime I do a search and have "not full" checked my game CTD either during the search or right after its complete. I didn't have this issue before the latest patch.

If you want gear progression go play wow, it has no place in a competitive fps.

And I'm sorry but a lvl 25 assault with an M16, body armor spec, and accuracy/dmg spec has such a huge advantage over a low ranked player that you better get the drop on him from point blank range or you will most likely lose.

Another beef I gotta bring up with BC2 and a lot of other newer shooters. What's up with only being able to run at full speed while running forward? In real life I could turn my head side to side while running forward to see what's around me. It's so frustrating having to run across an open area with straight forward tunnel vision so I don't slow myself down by looking sideways. You already can't shoot while running so it's not like it would effect combat much if you could run sideways.

I fully agree with you, but I like it some what because it encourages running in zig zags.

At first I was okay with it, but now that more and more snipers have the magnum ammo, they get a noticeable advantage. It's still pretty easy to snipe someone who's running since they're running at a constant velocity (as in constant speed & constant direction). Their movement is perfectly linear. I understand not letting people turn on a dime while sprinting, but there should be some sort of compromise. If I'm sprinting, widen my turning radius, don't just take it away entirely.

While I kind of miss strafing, I do also sort of understand why they took it out. You can still zig-zag, just have to move the mouse around. Generally if you do it well enough it's enough to keep a sniper from headshotting you in most cases.
