What video card would you say is the bare minimum in order to play at decent FPS?

I have an aging 8800 GTS and need to upgrade, I was reading that the 5850 is playing this game at decent fps...but it is close to 300...

If I were to upgrade to a 5850...how much do you think I could get for my 8800 GTS 640?

I just upgraded from an 8800 GTS (EVGA) to a 5850 and it made a huge difference. As for what you'd get, probably not much... maybe $50.

Is the GTS640 faster or slower than the 512M version? Looks like they go for about $60 ~ $70 on the for sale forums.

If you need to go cheaper a 5770 plays it pretty well. Not going to up the detail all the way, but perfectly playable with some advanced settings.

edit: seems to be about on par with the poster below me in performance.

I have an e8400 at 3.6ghz and a 8800 GTS 512 oc'd. I'm playing at 1900x1200 with (forget the first setting) High, Textures High, Shadows Medium, Effects Medium, AA 1x, AF 8x, and HBAO off and get between 40 and 50 fps. It seems smooth to me. I'm using XP pro.

based on that previously linked article it seems like Medium settings and High settings aren't much different...

I guess the reason I picked the 5850 is I have a 1920 x 1080 23 in monitor and didn't want to have issues gaming at that resolution...

would the 5770 be able to handle that resolution at medium settings?

I play at 1920x1200, medium for now and hover around 40-80fps. Explosions kill me, hence the drop. I just haven't had the time to do all the testing I need to get the settings right. That's also with HBAO on.

However, if your card performs like the poster above "2dead", then there's probably no reason to upgrade to a 5770. It won't give you a big bump. 58xx series would provide a better boost.

Did anyone have any crash issues playing on the ATOT server last night? At the start of a new round BFBC2 would crash to the desktop. Happened for the two rounds I played on the server, which sucked cause I was doing alright. Went to other servers and it didnt crash at all.

I haven't had any issues with my e8400 / 5770 combo. Graphics turned up and looks awesome @ 1080.

LOL not limited to just that server. I've been getting black screen crashes of the game on round end, not sure if you even get all your points when this happens. Do hope so cause it has happened frequently.

I CTD'd the other day and I got my points, it took them an hour or so to show up though

Some of your stats are pretty good considering the nature of the game. My excuse is this is the first PC game I've played in awhile, and most of these stats where on my 8800GT when everything felt sluggish. Pre Intellimouse 3.0 mouse upgrade as well. Plus, I was doing support roles without looking for kills. And any other excuse you can think of!

so i just got the an-94...and im not sure how i feel about it. I wish it full auto for close encounters, but man i love getting those headshots with the 4x scope. Is the m16 any better?

AN-94 is the best gun for assault IMO. Its not full auto, but if you can click fast its just as fast as the others. The m16 sucks ass, it does no damage. AN-94 is the most powerful, and its quite accurate.

rookie question, how do you know when you done with a class? I just got the last gun for engineer class, does that mean i'm done or is there more I can unlock if I keep playing that class?

Theres nothing else to unlock

The between rounds screen where they show your score has a tab for Unlocks Progress. It will show your next unlocks for each class. AznAnarchy99 would probably know better than I, but there might be some class that unlocks some Specialization after the last weapon.
