Is the hardcore server var a broad set of rules that overrides everything? For example, I'd like a server that has hardcore damage, removes the 3d map, keeps the minimap, keeps minimap spotting, and removes crosshairs. Browsing various hosting company forums it sounds like this isn't possible, but I'm not sure.

When I was on the ATOT server with Demo24 the other day, he told me he could hear me over VOIP. But I guess he didn't have a mic. I talked, he typed.

PS. I mentioned previously about push-to-talk not working with BFBC2 & TS, as if BFBC2 was "swallowing up" the key presses meant for TS. Well, I tested yesterday and confirmed if I run TS as Admin, it works OK.

finally got some good multiplaying in last night. ive been getting the constant kicking issue. although i think i might have found the cause. in one of my attempts to check task manager to see if the punkbuster services were running (though im not getting punkbuster kick, just "regular" kicks) and i noticed i had two instances of the game .exe running. yet, the game was NOT running. i had exited and was browsing forums looking for clues to my kicks. i killed all the game exe processes and the first server i joined, i was able to play for a couple hours without issue. i eventually quit cuz it was almost midnight and i had to get up a 515am. i dunno if the multiple instances of the game exe running was the issue or not, but could be. ill see if i can duplicate it tonight.

in other news, it was super fun. this may not be a true bf2 sequel, but it sure feels like battlefield and i like. my only complaint (aside from the obvious kicking and server browser issues) is that the zoom is a toggle. i cant stand that. i like holding the mouse button to zoom and letting go of it to zoom out. having to press it again to unzoom is annoying! they dont make crouching a toggle, but they do the zoom? dumb. at least let us choose!

Seen guys that are level 15 on the PS3 version and I ask the same thing. I was level 5 by the time I logged off yesterday, and pretty far in the sniper class. I suppose I'll be at 15 by Sunday though. If my damn medic unlocks would stay....

I play the engineer class and get about 1000 points per game. Guess I need to play more

As for the VOIP question, I shut mine off. The reason being is because I was getting alot really bad echo's whenever anyone spoke.

In the beta, I could get 5k points a game (albeit, I was very used to the Africa Harbor map). However, I've been getting around 1500 at most with the sniper (I think). I guess people have gotten better, or I've gotten worse, or they've lowered the points.

I got wrecked by a team last night of level 20 recon's, what a waste of my time My KDR was like .1333 or something. Fun game though, I'm working for level 6 right now.

I believe you are correct on Hardcore. It packages/forces these options:

• No Kill Cam
• Friendly Fire is on
• More realistic damage to soldiers from weapons
• No gameplay HUD elements of any kind, i.e., cross hair, mini-map, enemy icons.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 3D map. Is it 3D spotting (the triangles over heads)?

Here is a list of related available individual options for server config:

* vars.hardCore
* vars.killCam
* vars.miniMap
* vars.miniMapSpotting
* vars.thirdPersonVehicleCameras

So, everything you want seems to be available individually, except the hardcore damage model.

How do you set it to run in dx9? I want to compare performance from dx9 - dx11.

Or at least tell me what page its on.

I switched from DX=Auto to DX=9 to improve performance on my 8800gt. I assume it was running dx10 under auto, and my FPS went up from 45 avg to about 68 avg at 1680x1050/medium settings. That's a huge increase, enough to make game play much smoother, but I don't think the graphics are quite as good. Didn't do any back-to-back quality comparisons though.

On another performance-related note, the retail build seems to peg one of my cores at 100% and barely uses the others (which I can see using a CPU monitor that graphs CPU use throughout the game). The beta actually seemed to use 2 or 3 cores at about 50% each. Anyone else notice this?

Hey guys, my clan has our own BF:BC2 server through NFO and they posted the following known bugs with the current build. Hope this helps.

These are confirmed bugs and limitations in the current build of BF:BC2, that have come up many times through our support here. DICE is aware of these bugs and is working on fixes for them.

- Servers crash/freeze or drop players occasionally, due to software glitches in the engine and issues on the EA authentication back-end. Our system will auto-restart them when this happens.
- In-game pings are inaccurate and sometimes show much higher than they actually are.
- The client browser doesn't always show all the servers and sometimes it takes multiple refreshes to see a particular server. Also, client favorites don't always work (which may be alleviated by removing the beta); the server list is very slow to load; filters clear every time "search" is clicked; it's not possible to connect to a server by IP address; sometimes the ping shows as "--" instead of a real number; server banners don't always show correctly; and search is case sensitive.
- The server does not save the banlist, so restarting the server resets it (this is also a workaround for admin.unbanPlayer not working).
- A real player slot is dedicated to each of the players specified in the reserved slot list, preventing anyone else from using it. This differs from the intended behavior of allowing players with reservations to join and kicking another player.
- Long server descriptions cause problems on the client loading screen.
- Switching to Hardcore mode requires a map change.
- Server variables like hardcore mode sometimes are forgotten/ignored during map changes.
- The autobalancer does not always do a good job.
- The mapcycle sometimes doesn't work right and repeats maps or does not change to some of the maps specified.
- Setting a server (join) password prevents anyone from being able to connect to it, even if they know the password (due to a client-side timeout).
- Changing the server name requires a restart (by design).
- The server can only run one game mode, requiring a restart between changes to this (by design).

The weird thing is, I seemed to lose my defib on the ATOT server, but on most other servers I can still use it.

I unlocked using the veteran status though.

Yes, I could hear him just fine. I just didn't have a mic on me at the moment. Next time I'll get all setup and we can test that way.


The leaderboards are kind of insane. Top guy rank 25, over 2k kills(rather good k/d ratio i might add) and like 24h of play. I love this game an all, but I just couldn't play it for that long in this short time span.


Btw, anyone else kind of annoyed at the m95? I picked one up off the ground yesterday and shot someone at close range right in the chest and he didn't die. I've done better with the m24 :\

Had this happen to me last night after getting booted from a server. After maybe 10min of trying I logged out of steam and back in and was able to hop on another server. Not sure if it will help but something to try if you haven't already.

One bullet at a time. The first bullet is pretty damn accurate, after that it can go anywhere. Click-click-click the mouse and hope you can kill them before they find cover.

Reminds me of this one incident during the beta. I'm a medic with a SAW or PKM. I see this guy like 50 feet away and start unloading on him. I'm crouched and aiming down my sights at him. I see him run out of ammo, so I'm like, no need to get fancy, just hold down the trigger and he'll be dead before he reloads. Like a scene out a dream I watch him pull out his empty magazine, insert a new one, cock his gun, aim, one shot, two shot, I'm dead! I don't think he had hacks. Full auto is just that bad....

EA's servers that populate the server lists are overwhelmed. And the game went live in most of the world outside the US today. Have you tried picking a server in your favorites or history instead of retrieveing the whole list? Or just try Play Now and hope for the best?

this is one of the things i hated about BF2. you can unload a full mag into a guy and he wouldn't die, but he turns around and pops 2 shots off and kills you instantly

I have quite a few of those moments in BC2.

I can be about 10ft away and I'll start shooting before the other guy (and lets assume we're using the exact same gun), and I'll die.

In fact, I win very few 1v1 matchups because of this.

It's all about the way you play. I would say that I'm an OK FPSer. Nothing flashy with what I do. And when it comes to the Medic class (my favorite), you really have to know how to fire your LMGs. Small 2 or 3 round bursts at a time can decimate an enemy. Just don't kneel down in open territory. Try to find cover. And if you can't, no amount of spraying and praying will help you down your enemy. Especially if they're an Assault class.

Uninstalled Bad Company 2 Beta and tried to delete and reinstall PB. Now when I download PB I can open it and add BC2 as a game, but it isn't recognized in game nor does it show up in the control panel. Cannot play this game at all.

Did you delete the BFBC2Beta folder under My Documents?
