Ok, I don't know what I did differently, but I was able to play last night, I uninstalled and reinstalled punkbuster and the services, and blammo, it worked. I know I did the exact thing the day before...
Who knows...

Miraculously had one of my best rounds ever the other night in an Arica rush server. Long game, during which I managed to rack up 45 kills (30 deaths), 1500 points as assault, 1500 points as Engineer, and 1500 points as recon. Something like 8000 total score. I felt that my blood lust was satiated after that.

so for an engineer what's the best primary weapon?

IMO the UMP is the best engie gun, but the starting 91-9A and SCAR-L will handle similarly.

These guns will pack more punch without magnum ammo than the other engie guns, which you probably shouldn't be bothering with as an engineer anyways.

The armor upgrade or explosive upgrade will do far more than magnum if you're playing the roll of a true engineer - the armor keeping you alive for sticky repair situations on tanks, or the explosive perk to help with your explosives (rocket launchers/tank mines)

If you're really wanting to use magnum ammo, the XM8-C and AKS-74U turn into the engie guns with the fastest kill times.

For closer quarters maps you have the UZI and the PP-2000 that have extremely high rates of fire that just make them rape through anything like a wet paper bag.

Also what are the best couple of shot guns?

IME, the shotguns handle almost identically. It doesn't really make sense considering they label the Saiga as a 20 gauge weapon, but the game damage characteristics are identical to the USAS, a 12 gauge weapon...the only difference in game is that the Saiga is semi-automatic while the USAS-12 is fully automatic. However, I still treat both weapons almost the same (ie clicking for each shot I want as if its semi auto only) otherwise strictly using the USAS in full auto can waste a lot of a shots.

The pump shotguns handle even closer to each other, I really don't think there's a difference at all between the 870 Combat and the SPAS, and the stats show that they are completely identical. As far as which one to choose? Purely aesthetics...the 870 seems to take up less space on my screen and is therefor slightly less distracting. Granted, since the SPAS is functionally identical, that's just extra bonus achievement stars for leveling up should you reach platinum on the 870

That leaves us with the crazy looking NS2000. Again, the shot, damage, and pump characteristics are identical to the 870 and SPAS, but this gun reloads two shells at a time. The initial reload is slower, but because it reloads two at a time, its ultimately a faster reloading weapon if you're not reloading after every single shot.

As far as shotgun upgrades, slugs make the pumps one-shot veritable sniper beasts, even without magnum ammo. Magnum ammo in the second upgrade slot will extend your effective one-shot-kill range. Headshots will kill from any distance. And this is on normal mode, hardcore just becomes even more insane with even farther one-shot-kill ranges. Needless to say, I almost never carry a pump shotgun without slugs in normal mode as they are just as deadly at close range plus they give you that long range power that shot simply does not have unless you're using the auto shotguns...

Which brings us to the auto shotguns. Slugs can turn these weapons into assault rifles on steroids, but I almost never carry the slug perk with the semi auto shotguns because I'm usually using an upgrade such as double explosives pouch for extra C4 or rockets or tank mines. The automatic nature of these weapons means you can get enough shot on target fast enough that even though you're missing a lot of the pellets due to their spread, you'll get enough on target fast enough to bring enemies down even from medium ranges, and at close range their power and efficiency just can't be matched. The extended magazine perk will also do you wonders, doubling the mag from 6 to 12 shots and makes much more sense to use on the autos than on the pumps which can be kept topped off with regular reloads without much penalty. Of course reloads on the autos aren't terribly long, so I'll often use the armor perk if I'm assault and using C4 or the explosive perk if I'm engie.

Ironically, I had one of the best games I played right after that, which for me is a 2:1 k:d ratio. I'm an assault sniper.

High five fellow run n' gun sniper! Sitting in the bush playing with yourself gets kind of old after awhile. Sometimes you gotta go play with others :awe:

I finally picked up this game about 4 days ago and am totally addicted now. I had really lost interest in FPS games for a while and stopped playing BF2 for quite some time.

BFBC2 blows me away visually and the chaos and destruction give the game a feeling like no other FPS. I especially love the Rush game mode but still like conquest now and then. My favorite class so far is the medic especially if you can find a good kill zone with your LMG. The engineer is pretty cool too, that SCAR-L is damn deadly at the right range. I think I've been killed by more engineers than anybody else especially those engies with the tubers ugh.

It was really harsh logging into my first couple games. I think I died about 15 times in a row. I'd start running and *bam* dead by 40mm grenade..then LMG..then a tank..tuber..knifed omg! Ugh it was horrible. Until you get to know the maps and gain some confidence you are an easy target. My favorite is Laguna Presa..so many good kill zones for an LMG

The upgrades and ranks are done well. Seems a bit quicker pace than BF2 but not so fast like MW1 where you could make 5 star general in two weeks lol.

increase your FOV (if you haven't already) unless you really like the default FOV

What value do you guys use? I read about it and played around and 65 seems about right. Yesterday I read some tips on performance and doubled my framerates by disabling bloom and forcing the game to play in dx9. A bit of a graphics loss but much smoother gameplay.

One question about moving the turret inside a tank. In BF2 there was an option to to speed up your mouse sensitivity while in a vehicle but I don't see it in this game. Is it possible?

Made sergeant yesterday. Time to get out and get some sunshine today

It is possible. You have to edit some files, just like for the FOV. The instructions are somewhere in this thread. I started reading at about page 90, so sometime after that. Seek, and you shall find.

If you run the game as administrator, be sure to open the ini files as administrator as well. I think I use somewhere between 70-75, but I don't remember. I haven't played in a couple of weeks.

The cheating in this game is ridiculous. It's like there's waves of it. I can always tell because after maintaining about a 1.3:1 K ratio, all of a sudden for a few days I'll start going 1-27 3-40, etc. Today I somehow got snipered repeatedly from inside a concrete room with no windows exposure, five times. I got CG'd through a building, i.e. someone hit one side of a large building, and it killed me on the other side, even without me seeing the explosion. I was getting sniped by someone with the 870 pump shotgun from all the way across Arica in CQ mode, they got me 13 times in one round. Yes. They killed me with a pump shotgun from about 250 meters, 13 times.

I think I'm all done with this game. The cheating is blatant. It ruins an otherwise fun game for me, and ruins my stats.

are you making sure to play on PB servers?

my search filter is as follows

North America

Ranked: empty
Punk Buster: check
Password: x
Full: x
Empty: x
Hardcore: x
EA official: empty

I've only seen blatant cheating once and it was a a whole clan doing it on their own server and they were practically bragging about it. And that was before this last patch that fixed the filter options, so I had mistakenly joined a non-PB server.

Long time lurker, first time poster here...

I've played the game a lot, I really don't think cheating is as rampant as you think it is. From my experience your score is going to be heavily influenced by the effectiveness of your team. Some games I can score a 3:1 K ratio, others I'll be on 1:2, just depending on luck at the time.

I can attempt to explain some of what you're describing here. In the cases of getting killed despite no exposure, you've probably been spotted. When you're spotted you'll still be on the enemy team's HUD for some time, behind your wall. An experienced player who saw you go behind said wall might send an explosive into it because even if it doesn't kill you, it might make you panic a bit. Where possible you can send 40mm grenades and cg's through windows to explode on the ceiling so it might kill somebody further back in the room (obviously you need to be below the window).

Regarding the shotgun - they would have definitely been using slug rounds and the magnum damage mod. Slug rounds are a single round from the shotgun, and in this game use the same mechanics as sniper rifles. It's a 1 hit kill with the magnum mod. You may be able to attach a sniper scope to the shotgun too if you really want? I'm not sure.

Also as bunnyfubbles suggested, make sure you're on PB servers!

The Balance tweaks are as follows:

Slightly increased the damage of the UZI at long range.
The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming.
The G3, VSS, and all SemiAutomatic rifles now settle slightly faster between shots when aiming.
The PKM, Type 88LMG, G3, An94, and 40mm shotgun have returned to their former glory.
Increased the damage of the MG3 to bring it in line with the rest of the LMGs.
Fixed a bug where the Saiga12 with slugs would do too much damage at long range.
Fixed a bug where the SVU would do too little damage at long range.
Fixed a bug where M95 rounds would not kill armored targets with headshots.

BFBC2 PC Update - Hmmm...: "Gameplay - Hit box for moving targets expands based on the speed of the targets movement"

Mr. Matt,

The last sniper rifle unlock (M24?) can shoot through walls. If you are spotted I could kill you through a wall. Or if you are standing behind something where I can see your feet you're as good as dead.
