The baby my sister is carrying has a cyst on the brain. Anyone else go through this?

Well my sister today discovers that the baby she's carrying has a cyst on the brain. The doctor told her that 20% of babies experience this and it should go away. She's really concerned because she's had 3 miscarriages in the past year and a half (the last one almost killed her), she's had to have a tube removed, plus she had a cyst on her ovaries. She's freeking out a bit and driving my mom crazy. She doesn't want to lose another one or have one with problems.

Has anyone else gone through something similiar?

Yes. One of my children had a cyst observed in his brain during an ultrasound.

I remember the doctor told us that there was a small chance that the cyst could be an indicator for developmental retardation, but none of the other indicators were observed. He told us about a test that could prove that it was a problem, but couldn't prove that it wasn't a problem.

We elected not to have the test done (it involved drawing amniotic fluid).

He was born with no problems and is a happy, healthy, energetic, imaginative, inquisitive boy.

The doctors were right for us ... it was just a temporary thing, nothing sinister. I hope your sister can relax a little.

Our daughter also had a 'cyst' on her brain which they found during an ultrasound - I forgot the medical term for it, but it seemed to be fairly common and they usually go away and nothing comes of it - drove us insane, especially reading and googling about it.

She just turned 2 years old today and his a happy, healthy little girl. I do see that she had 3 miscarriages in the past and that's unfortunate - but i'm thinking that this issue is probably not related - Try not to worry too much about it, i'm sure everything will probably turn out just fine.

I've had one since birth (1952) that wasn't "discovered" 'till a CAT scan in the 80's.

The Doc said many people have them and live their lives with no problem.

He gave input. Not everything said has to be rosey, truth is truth, it can be a bad thing. If this baby does miscarriage, can bring up adoption at an appropriate time. Im guessing reassuring her that everything will be ok is statistically correct.
