I like overclocking laptops.

The value you get at stock is simply awful, overclocking helps get you to performance tiers that would have cost you hundreds of dollars more.

Obviously it's not always practical to use it that way, but if you can cool it and are running plugged in it's a nice benefit.

Try talking about something you understand.... I know it's hard when laptops will outperform your desktop but try to get over it.

I will have paid a relatively small premium for a machine more powerful than most that can be taken anywhere with me. The card cost me less than the 7950 and will perform like it at stock, my CPU cost me less than a 2500K.

Very little compromise really.

985/1575 at stock volts, note that it's not quite stable at these settings (will shut off under peak load).

The 570M version of the barebone may cope better.

I think I have zeroed in on 940/1575 1.025v for 24/7.

Overclocking a notebook gpu is fine, but overvolting is Russian roullete. Notebook cooling simply cannot adequately keep up with adding on 25-50 watts of heat. The gpu and components around it will be punished.

I'd be more worried about the power brick, you can easily augment cooling for a laptop.

Dude he was making a joke. You need to get over it. Everyone else seemed to get it. You got offended and tried to say something silly like "laptops will outperform your desktop". Do you know his hardware? If it's anything like most signature lines in this forum with 4Ghz+ i5/i7 CPUs running 7950/GTX 670 or 7970/GTX 680 cards overclocked and sometimes in SLI...yeah I don't think what you're saying is anything less than denial.

Yeah, it's a full desktop 670 core. The 7970m is only a desktop 7870.
