I like my GA-MA790X-UD4P, however it overvolts ram (won't go below 1.95v). Try GA-MA790FX-UD4P; it might not have same ram problems.

Plus, mine unlocks cores with ACC if the cpu can do it.

No, there's nothing wrong with his mobo. It's well documented that the UD4P overvolts RAM, or at least supplies 2 volts when it advertises 1.8 volts.

It's Gigabyte's fault.

Bingo. I don't get why people automatically go into self-defense mode when something new and expensive is unveiled. No one is asking you to buy it...it's just there as an option soccerballtux. No one *needs* a Ferrari, and trust me, that's not why they buy it.

You sound just a little envious IMO. Do you secretly wish you had that mobo and 4 GPUs with 16 gigs of RAM? aww...

Just say its overkill and move on. No need to question the intention of prospective buyers.

Quad Crossfire btw, not SLI. And just because you don't need it now doesn't mean you won't need it later when the next gen game comes out and needs 4 gpus just to run smoothly. $179 may seem pricey but you get a board that is high quality with a ton of options, easy to overclock, quad CFX for future gaming, and beautiful looks.

The OP asked for 'the best' which is usually a board with 4x PCI-E slots and DDR3- thats why the GD70 came up- he didn't mention price or relative performance so we must assume thats not an issue.

If AMD ever makes a chip that can properly utilize the power of 4x 4890 (or later equivalent) then the msi is better + it has a nifty esata+usb combined port. However, the VRM on the msi only has half the phases of the asus, so asus for OC is likely better.

Judging by the results at XS the GD-70 is garnering the most support and attention with overclockers. Phases mean nothing in terms of overclocking as is generally an example of easy marketing.

Problem I always find with Crossfire and SLI boards is room to fit a decent soundcard. I think sound is just as important as performance.

Onboard sound chips are pretty good these days. In fact, the Realtek ALC889 on the MSI GD70 board is good enough to make me not even care about getting a sound card.
