both good boards...no one can tell you pros and cons but you based on YOUR needs. Do your own research. neither board will explode on you, that's a pro for both of them.

My needs...ok

it's quite simple, i'm gonna put a phenom II 720 BE with a dual 4870 or 4890 Video card and i havent decided whcih ddr3 ram to put in.

what i want is simple, the MB who will give me the fastest performance for my stuff, mostly in video games...i also like the dual jack for internet...i'll probably set up a raid array too for speed.

No motherboard is going to get you better frame rates in games, the difference between the best and the worst is like 1-2 fps. Go with the MSI GD-70. What you want in a mobo is a good BIOS + layout features.

I'm about to fire up my ASUS M4A79 Deluxe. I'm putting it together right now... the 3 things I don't like are:
only 6 USB ports in the back (yes I use a ton).
only 1 eSata in the back
only 6 sata ports total (5 inside, 1 esata)
only one LAN port

I just can't believe the most expensive AM3 board at newegg is missing all the extras...

ASUS seems to be having manufacturing issues (lots of DOAs) right now - and I don't like the ASUS layouts AT ALL. (this is based on my research for X58 motherboards) Just looking at the ASUS, I don't get why they put all their PCIe X1 slots right below the X16 slots, leaving only 1 PCI if you wanted to run CrossFire. What's with all the "excellent" and "awesome" in the newegg ASUS reviews? Seems weird that 98% of reviewers use the same word, to me.

I'd get the MSI - it's more affordable, the layout is more intelligent (you can block either the PCI or the PCIe slot) and NEWEGG HAS THEM BACK IN STOCK!

Gigabyte just turns me off.

I believe (don't know because I don't have one) that your mobo has the eSATA port multiplier function.

And I'm not giving you a hard time or anything but why did you purchase that motherboard when you could have purchased the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 with '8 x USB 2.0' and '10 x SATA 3Gb/s' for the same price?

If eSATA is that critical you could add 2 dual-port eSATA brackets (4 external ports) for $12 and still have six internal ports.

Bing.com currently has at ZZF the 790fx $35.40 savings cash back.

Living in CA that equates to a total with free shipping option and tax of
$156.19 as opposed to walking in to my local Fry's and paying tax of 8.25% (what ZZF charges)
and walking out with it for $184.01.

Good deal if you can wait for the shipping to you plus wait on the cash back.

Now, what about motherboards for reasonable prices? Maybe that's a different question?

I remember when any great motherboard would be between 110 and 80 dollars. I am looking for SLI - that's it. My demands aren't much, but I'm having trouble finding quality ones - especially with the complications with the 16x/8x/4x thing.

I love mine.

I got that for one reason only - the combo deal at Newegg. Saved me about $50 over the other boards I preferred at that level (such as the MSI and Gigabyte). Its fine I suppose, but I don't care for add-in card slot layout at all. The only available PCI card slot is way too close to the single GPU in my opinion and the other PCI slot is covered by the video card. I still use an PCI sound card. Still, its a serviceable board I suppose.

After reading everything I would go with the Asus M4A79T

I've decided to pull the plug on my Q6600 and use it as my secondary rig and go with ATI all the way.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Asus M4A79T Deluxe

Mushkin HP3 8GB 4X2GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600
or
OCZ Gold 8GB 4X2GB DDR3-1600 CL8-8-8-24

Noctua NH-C12P Heatsink

Antec Quattro 850

Colermaster Haf

Western Digital 640Gb AALS x 3

As for the Video Card I'm gona wait to see what Evergreen is all about on Sept 10th.

Mine's been on with the 965BE. I overclocked it to 3.8 by just adjusting the multiplier and it BSOD on me after a while of just surfing the net. So I'm back to normal 3.4 spee It's pretty fast for me already.

Anyway, I think the ASUS M4A79 Deluxe is good but the T deluxe is probably better. Stick with AM3 motherboard and you will do just fine.
