There is no "otherwise". Discussing the merits of supermarket prepackaged, 8 to a cellophane wrapper hot dogs is like arguing the nuances of Bud Light, Miller Lite and Coors Light. It's all crap. Either buy REAL hot dogs or don't worry about. And if you're planning on serving them smothered in chili, then definitely don't worry about it. You're not going to be able to taste the differences between brands. If you want the meat to be the star, buy quality brats or sausages. If you're going with loads of toppings then any old dog will do.
Ball Park Grill Master deli style's are very good, not cheap though. They're nice and big too. They make AWESOME Chili Dogs, if you get some sturdy buns you'll have monstrous sized ones too.
Weird - I figured more people would have agreed with you - must not be a lot of people from NY in this thread. The last time this topic was brought up, there were a lot of NYers who voted Sahlens.
Might just be an east coast thing but Dietz & Watson deli style are awesome. They taste great if you steam cook them or use a hot dog cooker with rollers.
Really with dogs its all about the fixins. You need good mustard, relish and sometimes chopped onions to compliment the hot dog or it just doesn't taste right.
