If you like Sterling, i suggest you check out Buena Vista's collection as well, just over the ridge in southern sonoma / carneros.

i will most definitely try them next.

i ventured out a little too far from my norm last week and bought some chilean wine.... bad decision.

What was wrong with the Chilean wine? It's thought to be some of the best Cab's in the world, and the prices are great, too.

Hmm, that doesn't describe Chilean Cabs at all. Sounds like you picked up a horrible bottle as a Cabernet anywhere is generally not spicy or at all watery, and almost all Cabs around the world are fermented dry.

I've only tried the pinot gris & pinot noir........ I must confess I am not a wine fan......... but I've tried a lot of wine form ther Okanagan Valley and this is by far the best stuff.

half way through this bottle of Shiraz...nothing special, but nothing great...

i'm halfway through my bottle of sterling vintner's cab right now. i'm definitely putting stag's leap and buena vista's collection on my list of things to try.

i've got a good buzz going right now... i should have probably eaten more than a peanut butter an jelly sandwich for the day, but whatever.

PIZZA!!! i'm ordering pizza. anyone want anything?

I'll take some!

My standard "cheap" drinking cab is a 2001 Kirkland Ranch Cab I pick up at Grocery Outlet when they have it. They sell if for $3 a bottle, and it sells for $30 from the winery.

i HIGHLY recommend this wine. it's absolutely awesome.

well, I felt raped when I paid 20 bucks for it in a CostPlus World Market in San Diego, just to find out it costed about 15 at Bevmo (or any 'nicer' supermarket like Pavilion) back up in LA. I haven't drank it yet.

but for 20 bucks, I really liked the Owen Roe Sharecropper (from Washington State, or was it Oregon???)

also, for $12, try the Sebastiani (kinda hard to find) or the 2002 Columbia Crest Estate. I am not an expert, but I had both the 01 and 02 Columbia Crest and found the latter to be alot better. And they can be easily found in many supermarket.

Has anybody tried any of Seghesio's wines? I've been reading about them - some very good Italian varietals, I've heard - but I haven't made it down to Napa to go tasting lately, and haven't bought a bottle yet.

I'm more of a shiraz guy. Nearly the same thing as a cab-sav, but the Aussies will often throw a little extra spice into the mix (look for the name McLaren Vale with a late 90's vintage for the best stuff). Great with rich meal, and excellent to cook with.

Riesling would be my favorite white.

Shiraz is a little fruity for me on a regular basis. Cabs are heavier tannin and I prefer them for that reason.

Eh, they're all different. Cab's are pretty strict in their recipes and aging in oak. Shiraz grapes taste similar, but they'll throw in different fruits, woods, or whatever else they have in abundance to make some really good flavors. Rosemont is probably my favorite everyday wine because of the plum/cherry after taste (I even like to dip steak in it ).
