I have read that Nvidia cards are having issues with Oblivion.
So I am wondering if I should get an ATI card for the game???

Hah, I posted my thread at almost exactly the same time as this one. I'm not looking for the Best card, because I'm budget constrained. However, I'll be following this thread as well.

Mark.

bittech article is screwed :!

But XBOX 360 if you can't afford to upgrade to an X1900XT , 2GB , AMD opteron Dual core/AMD X2.

either way : ) the game looks awesome

Nvidia cards actually perform better/equall with just a few tweaks.
Most notably the coolbits one where you go to Advanced direct3d settings and change the numerical value from 3 to 0.
This can give anywhere from 10 to double fps.

Aso, it is important to note that ATI's latest drivers currently have an issue with Oblivion wherby certain levels can drop the fps to sometimes even 1fps!

In other words, the game is so glitchy that no ones can know for sure yet.
Wait till there is a patch out.

ATI users have an equivalent tweak with the flip queue size option. I haven't heard about this 1fps drop that you are talking about. There is a framerate drop issue with ATI cards and particle effects when AA is enabled, but in this game most people with a high end card would be using HDR anyway so it's not too big of a deal. While a patch is inevitable, unfortunately right now we have no idea how long it is going to take before it is released. But right now I am going to have to recommend the X1900XT for this game, as pretty much every user report has placed it ahead of the 7900 series in terms of performance.

What the hell are you smoking nib? ATi drivers have no issue with Oblivion, they work perfectly fine. And nVidia cards perform better/equal w/a few tweaks? LOL! Bit-tech results disagree with you unless by "tweaks" you mean turning off grass shadows and using standard AF just to compete.

ATi is generally faster- especially X1900 series. This is a shader heavy game, and ATi's looking-to-the-future w/games like this when they designed the X1900 is paying off. nVidia on the other hand did nothing but a die shrink.

i disagree.. hdr is a novelty. it's nice in some things, but the problem is the game looks ass with no AA.

The X1900XT(X) really does have the performance edge over the 7900GTX. You'll get better performance than a 7900GTX even with HQAF.

But no matter which way you'll go, you'll still have one very fast video card.

When I bought this game I had a 7800GT and it was pretty dern good. However, this game forced me into wanting a faster computer so I bought a X1900XTX and I honestly couldn't be any more happy. That card makes the game stunning to look at and its very fast.

The game looks best w/ HDR enabled, imho.

So what is teh real reason behind R520/R580 ain't able to do HDR with AA in Oblivion... Did they developers leave it out on purpose or does ATI needs a driver to enable it :?
