are the rear speakers mountable to a wall?

Once again, let me remind you, you are in an NNZ (No Neffing Zone). Once more and I get out the big Trout and whack you into the next week. Understood?

Got my Fluance speakers on Monday, got the reciever today! If you live in an apartment and don't wanna get kicked out, don't buy a sub! I will have to keep these down as it is. Well, here's the deal. I have spent a good chunk of money today just on cable.. I also bought a couple of the ceiling or wall mounts so I can hang the bookshelfs. Right now I've just had the center and the main left and right running.. So far so good. I had everything wired, carefully and neatly put everything back in the entertainment center and no sound.. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I would have thought the cable with the red line on it would go to the red inlet. Nope.. Of course it can't be that simple. Any retard can figure out that red goes into black and vice versa.. rrriiiiggghhttt. ( laugh it up ) . So after spending about an hour thinking it was some stupid setting on my reciever my wife said to change it.. Of course for the first 15 minutes I just ignored her.. ( what do women know right? ) . damn.. she was right. I bought some more cables, they have +'s on them instead of nothing.. this makes more sense. I will add to this hopefully tomorrow night after the rear's are rockin..

Someone mentioned tying in the VX10 ($168) sub from 6ave.com. I have the sub and it fills a roughly 20'30' with resonably loud tight bass, especially after I filled it with polyfill. Might also want to check out the Sony wm40 sub on other forums, a 12 incher suppossedly sounds great for low $ after the mod.
As far as speakers in the price range go with Axiom, unless you can snag an increasingly rare pair of Michauras for less which sound (and look) even better.
I have the same VX-10 sub from 6ave. Only had it about a week and it is decent, but seems slightly boomy. Does the pollyfill help it that much?

NO - do not put polyfill in the ported Velodyne. You change the whole subwoofer. Research Theil- Small parameters and how speakers are designed. Read Speaker builder magazine for 20 years..., get a masters in engineering....
Yes - crappy speakers that do not have the correct absorption / stuffing do benefit from adding some materials. If the walls are not braced, that helps too. But velodyne knows what they are doing and the Sony sub has great reviews.
The best price performance - actually reviewed home theater speakers that I have come across are from Hometheaterdirect.com.
And, yes you can educate your ears so that crap really sounds like crap. So, if you want to save your money don't go into a good audio store and listen to B&W, Snell, Vandersteen, Kef, NHT, etc, or you will never be satisfied. It is like seeing someones pent 4 when you are running a pent 133.....
good luck with the cheap speakers

What cables do you folks use? I won't have enough on my older 12 guage reel to wire this so I was thinking of ordering some 12 guage oxygen free shielded cables from cablestogo.com. I haven't tried their speaker cable yet but 12 guage oxygen free shielded cabling at under 90 cents a foot seems great to me. Especially considering I have bought some S-Video and RCA cables off them and was really impressed for the money. I am really liking cablestogo. They have alot of great budget cabling thats awesome to me for the price/performance.
partsexpress has 12 AWG OFC for $.34/ft. really tho, i think the lead wires in these speakers are 16 or 18 AWG, so there's no real point buying a thick gauge with these speakers.
Its true most cases the premium speaker wire is not at all necesary, almost a gimmick. and I know the wire is probably overkill for my needs but I like to be better safe then sorry. As long as my impedance is better then my speakers ratings, I am good to go. I doubt I'll need great cable with the Fluance speakers but its not the quality (That I probably wont see on those speakers) that interests me, its the shielding. This is going on a computer, so near alot of computer equipment and also around the walls a little. Thats why I wanted heavy shielded cables. I'd like to be safe with the heavy sheilding so I have the option of making 50 foot cables for the rear sats. I'd have to run the wire for those rear sats around the wall. I may also want to run some of these speakers out to a 3rd floor deck. Not sure what I want to do with them.
i don't think all speaker cables are designed to go thru walls. the in wall ones usually have a jacket over the wire pair.
Yep, this is the cable (only in white) that dakels is referring to though so he should be fine.

Here are a couple of reviews of HomeTheaterDirect speakers:Never heard of Hometheaterdirect. Will check them out. Any good forums on speaker building that you can recommend?

I hope this is not off topic, but if anyone is looking for what is in my opinion the best value in a very small bookshelf speaker, listen to the Paradigm Atom. At about $180/pair they are truly spectacular. If you want accurate and smooth speakers that will fit almost anywhere and sound great, give these a shot. The only problem is unless you stumble across the odd eBay sale or classified ad listing, you have to buy them at a Paradigm dealer. It?s worth the bother, however. Do a Google search for Paradigm Atom and read any of the reviews. Sitting in front of these with your eyes closed---you?d never believe how small they are.
