Well, I bought the SX-HTBs because my wife wanted a wood-colored finish. I think they also come with floor spikes, fwiw.

Chalk me up as a very satisfied customer. Anyone bought one of their subs yet?

I have the 200 watt baby, just got it yesterday. Going into a budget system for a friend. So far I must say my early impressions are that this unit is....well....impressive. I hate even saying this but it compares well with a Paradigm PW-2200 sub that I just used to build another system with. This is a very accurate 12 incher and mindblowing thunder can come out of this sub if that's what the source audio calls for. It has alot of tightness for a 12 and can operate properly in the 80-120hz zone which surprised me alot for the price of this baby. It is also a large heavy unit, weighing it at 46 lbs.

I would give this sub an A+ for value for what you get for the money.

What is the 200W baby, a sub? Can you link to it please? If it's not a sub, what kind of sub would go well with this?

Well, I just ordered me one of these...

Does anyone know of any literature on placement of bi-polar surround speakers?

my couch is flush against my back wall and I was wondering if it would be worth it to get those. Also, is the advantage that great?

I sent them back and got another set of Cabridge Soundworks Movieworks 108's (Under $400 for the whole set with coupon). The 8" sub KICKS for the size, it has better clairity, and the speakers aren't so honkin' big

Anyway LINK for those interested.

Tell me about it! When I started this my friend was going to spend about $300 total on a Home theatre in a box, but at about $1000 dollars later on the speakers, sub, reveiver, DVI-DVD Player, cables, stands and furniture I am done, and (knock on wood) my friend is thrilled with his entry level system. Hard to imagine that spending $1000 on something is entry level but such is the way of the world

Hehe,

I know what you mean. My dad started out with a simple home-theater-in-a-box package years ago but soon auditioned the higher end stuff later on. That was a mistake (for the wallet anyways) as we found out there's A LOT better stuff out there. Tune to the present and our home theater (TV, speakers, preamp/amp, etc.) costs almost $12,000-$13,000. Can't say we regret it though as my parents love our home theater and use it religiously.

Any opinion on the Velodyne VX10 sub ? Does it go well with either the AV-HTB or SX-HTB from Fluance ?

i've heard one before, and it sounded pretty good, but it wasn't with a fluance system.

I went ahead and bought the AV-HTB from Fluance. I bought it directly from Fluance and paid about $30 more than eBay ... but I didn't feel very comfortable buying it from eBay even if that meant paying 15% more !

A really dumb question (hopefully) for long time home theater users - how do you route the cable to the surround speakers without having people trip over it all the time ? I mean if I could just lift the carpet and route the cable under it that would be ideal, but I am not sure I want to ruin my carpet just to make way for the cable ! Another possibility would be to route the speaker cable thru the wall, but I am not sure I am qualified enought to make a big hole in the wall, put the cable thru it and cover it up properly

I am sure this problem has been solved in many creative ways ... its just that I have never done it before and wondering how people generallt solve cable routing issues.

Thanks for any suggestions and any web pointers !

It depends on how your room is setup. I have my surrond cables all going on one side of the room along the wall, one stops at on surround, and the other continues behind the couch to the other.

I went ahead and got a set too, so far I have been pleased. Sounded ok out of the box, and now that I've had time to break them in (and calibrate them), they sound wonderful.

Thanks for your reply, xchangx ! Yes, I should have mentioned my room setup, since this problem will be highly dependent on how and where you have couches (or other items behind which the cables can hide).

I am fine with 5 out of my six speakers. The one that are fine are -

Front Left and Right
Center
Subwoofer
Left Surround

The problem is with the right surround ... it is located at a corner of the room where there isn't any couches or anything to hide the cable behind. If I keep the speaker on the floor, then the cable will have to run over the carpet, or by the corner of the wall. This is my problem. I wish I could draw some kind of a diagram to explain it, but I am sure at least some people have experienced similar kind of cable routing problem ... and they will probably realize it.

How thick is the speaker wire that you are using? Depending on your wall/baseboard/carpet situation, you might be able to lift up the carpet along the base board (try not to pull it off the tack strip) and then tuck the wire in between the base board and the tack strip. Then, replace the carpet over the wire and tuck in the edge with a metal putty knife or something similar. I've done this many times and it works great so long as the wire isn't too thick.

Hope this helps

Go to Home Depot and buy a "fish tape." It's a roll of stiff wire that you use to fish cable. Lift up the edge of carpet where your speaker is. Fish the tape underneath the carpet (but above the pad) to your receiver. Lift the edge of carpet there and attach the speaker wire to the end of the tape. Now pull the cable through. You'll want to bend the tacks on the carpet strips where the cable passes so they won't pierce the cable housing.

that's what i did. it works great. oh, and don't use 12 AWG wire for your surrounds if you plan to route it over a walkway. i did that, and you can definately feel the wire under the carpet.

I went to Home Depot and picked up some cable hiders, or whatever they're called. They're basically white plastic tubes with a slot on one side and double-sided tape on the bottom. Think kind of like a C shape, with the tape at the bottom. You just tape the tubes to the wall, ceiling, baseboard, wherever. Then you just slip the cable through the slotted side (the opening in the C) and it's hidden. They have little fittings for going around corners and such, too. I think they were $5 or $6 for a 5-foot length.

Thanks guys for the suggestion on cable routing ! I was planning on using a 12 AWG wire, but dpham00's comment is not making me re-think.

dpham00: What gauge of wire did you use for your surrounds ? Is there any difference in sound quality if I use a thinner wire (for a distance of about 12-15 ft) ?

Both the fish tape and wire tube solutions sound nice. Having never done any handyman kind of work before, I am slightly nervous messing with the carpet ... so I'll probably try the wire tube solution first.

Thanks again !

i used 12 awg for my surrounds. used it because i just bought spools of it for my whole setup. in hindsight, i probablly should have used a thinner gauge. for these speakers, probably 14 or even 16 AWG would be fine for the surrounds, especially with that short distance.

dpham00, do you have a picture of this 'C tubing' you used? I would like to see how it looks on the carpet.
